    Heynow Gamblers.......

I am arranging my shop in advance of a move and found a couple collections of stuff I have had since I was a kid, a slew of auto product related stickers, STP, Champion spark plugs, Edelbrock manifolds, and hundreds of others, both auto and not.

Also found a box of buttons, political campaign type, with a myriad of advertising slogans and clever, or not, quotes. From Nixon campaign buttons to Alfred E Newman " What Me Worry ", and a ton of of old hydroplane ones, Miss Bardhal, Circus Circus, Atlas Van Lines. There must be four or five hundred in all.

I still will grab stickers and buttons if I see them and they are free, as all of these were being a kid, but I think things like this are fewer in numbers now just due to cost. Likely this is just a bunch of junk....but I think I will still keep them, adding all the others I have around the house in drawers and such in to the boxes.

I know some of you collect chips, which seems ultimately more logical than my stuff, have had friends who collect spoons, thimbles, coins......does anyone do stamps any more ?

    Anyway...just curious.......

    Rusty :):):)

I collected pennies as a kid. I had them all, back to 1909, I think. I got my niece started when she was little. I'm not sure if she ever filled up her book.

My husband has political pins going back to the early 70's. He went when the candidates were in town and picked up a couple. Then I always have to corral them into the box where he keeps them or they float around on my coffee table forever. :haha:

I've started collecting drink stirs from Vegas. My dad had an impressive collection of them when I was a kid and I remember a big glittery pink flamingo one from you know where. :) Most now are boring plain plastic sticks, but when I find a good one, I toss it in my purse to go in the jar at home.

I had a good pile of expired playing cards and coin cups, but got rid of most of them in a fit of de-cluttering. :( Still have a few, just not as many as before when it was getting sort of ridiculous.

Never got into stamps Rusty but do remember riding my bike to all the local gas stations nearby and ask the mechs for the decals/stickers..An STP was pretty cool then..
But there is a market on eBay for what you have no doubt about it..

Somewhere I have the US Map with all the state quarters in it. I think it's under a guest bed. Husband has a bunch of chips but we did most of our gambling 1999-2010 and I don't think we have any of the newest casinos. Maybe (our last trip was 2013). I got rid of my childhood bunny collection this year (no, not live rabbits....When my mom married my stepdad, I was told I needed to choose an animal to have a collection as my stepsiblings did. I chose rabbits. I do not love rabbits nor did I really want a collection, but I was 6. They were in storage for ages, in a curio cabinet in a guest room in our house, and finally I said "nope", no more. I'm not getting any enjoyment. I kept a couple of figurines I really loved (artistically) and gave the rest back to my mom. No clue what she's done with them. Probably have a couple other random collections but nothing I'm avid about....When I was going to estate sales I would always grab silver candlesticks. I love malachite & lapis so will grab that if I see it at an auction. So I have certain things I look for but I wouldn't necessarily say I'm on the "collecting" level with....

I collect Kentucky Derby official mint julep glasses. I have quite a few. I want to get every year at least back to my birth year (1968). I have about ten or so to go.

I use to collect Hallmark ornaments. Have a few from way back (my mom started this craziness). I stopped collecting in the 90's. Keep saying someday I am going to sell these things. The funny thing is I never even decorate for Christmas at all. Always gone. Guess the good thing is most are new and safe in their boxes for when I do sell. Now they are just taking up room. Way too much room. Hate to admit how many I have. Thinking most are like beanie babies now LOL remember them?

My current husband is collecting wives. I'm lucky #3. Does that count? Yes, I said current... he's not my first either. haha

We have slowly been thinning down crap "that will be worth something someday". Turns our it is worth nothing in our attic/closet/garage.

As to collecting things because you personally like them, that is different.

We collect autographed photos of our favorite actors we meet at conventions. So far, we have the entire cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, part of the cast of the original Star Trek (including Leonard Nimoy RIP), most of the cast of Arrow, part of the cast of Once Upon A Time, part of the cast of Stargate: SG1, most of the cast of Firefly, some of the cast of The Lord of the Rings, most of the cast of Mythbusters, some of the cast of Battlestar Galactica, most of the cast of The Guild, Tony Shalhoub from Monk, and Bruce Campbell from Burn Notice and Ash Vs. Evil Dead.

We also collect autographed programs and posters for Broadway shows because we live near NYC. We have a program for Monty Python's Spamalot signed by David Hyde Pierce and Alan Tudyk, posters signed by the casts of Wicked and Rent, and a poster signed by Matthew Broderick, Kelli O'Hara, and the rest of the cast of Nice Work If You Can Get It.

I have no idea how much this stuff is worth because we have no intention of ever selling any of it.

Coins but I have slowed way, way down. Org CDs from the mid 80's. Great sound unlike newer cds. Lastly, key chains.

i collect bells. Bells from all over the US and the world. one thing they all have in common (and i have over 1000) is they have to have a price tag on it.
i also collect bags from gift stores. The ones that have the rope handles and are not the big ones. my latest one is from Wayne Newtons Gift Shop

i saw that someone collected pens. i do too!

I collect casino chips. My wife collects bells. Her collection is at over 4000 with no 2 alike. Feel sorry for my kids. They are going to have to deal with them some day.

Do you really? I'm not sure if it's true or you are kidding to be "The King of Inappropriate."

That doesn't have to be collecting, that's just being practical. I mean, FREE PENS!!! :haha: A few usually come home with me too. My husband went to get a pen off my desk and said "Do you have any normal, non-casino pens?"

Any kind of bells, or those little porcelain ones you see in gift shops sometimes? I had a really pretty blown glass one that someone gave me as a gift, but it didn't survive the move to Washington. When I first read your post I thought about the those triangle dinner bells from westerns and cowbells. I'm guessing you don't have 1000 giant bells. ;)
