Sold a computer on eBay for local pickup a month ago. Listing says returns are not allowed. Contacted buyer by phone, email, and text to make arrangements for pickup. No response. Sold computer again to someone else. Should the first buyer receive a refund? I was going to send a refund. My girlfriend says I should not and that I am too nice.
I voted Yes.Bottom line is you sold your computer like you wanted and who knows what happened to the original buyer? An Emergency? If he no-showed on a couple meetups that wasted your time and expenses I would think about a partial refund but that is not the case. Just file this one as another ebay experience..I've been on there since 99 and have come across some wierd things a lot.
Yes - refund Why not send one more email or text with subject/title: "Please reply so your computer purchase refund can be processed" or something to that effect? That's a strange one for sure.
If the person contacts you, then refund as you see fit. If still nothing from him/her and apparently there have been no responses(?), then let it go.
Communicate to the buyer through eBay messaging so there is a "paper" trail in case he files a complaint about non performance. On the third attempt advise him the sale is cancelled.
Legally, you would have to return their money. Also, you should do it by cancelling their purchase, not just sending them money - if you just send them money that leaves them the option to cancel the original transaction whereby they would get double the money back (the money you sent plus the cancelled transaction money returned) and then you would have to basically fight to get the cancelled money back
Yes. You should refund the money proactively because the buyer could file a "no ship" case with eBay. You are not entitled to the money from the first buyer if you didn't fulfill the terms of the sale.
Refund the money. I would consider reducing by any cost that you may had due to the missed sale. Not anything for your time though that would be hard to justify the amount .
+1. Bingo on Hammie's post. I would make further attempts to communicate with the purchaser through eBay and cover yourself in the process. A refund is probably in order but at this point the ball is most def in their court.....
I'd say that he warrants a refund as he did in fact pay for the device. The inability to pick it up is a separate matter. While you may wish to be rid of the device as soon as possible, this sounds to me like something unexpected (laying up in coma? deported? sent to a black site for further enhanced interrogation sessions?) happened, as I can't imagine there are a lot of people out there paying and not collecting merchandise.
As someone who sells a lot of eBay, you need to initiate a cancellation with the buyer thru the eBay interface since you sold it to someone else. If you're lucky, the person will agree to the cancellation and eBay will refund that person's money (the buyer has a few days to agree or decline and eBay automatically cancels the transaction if the buyer is unresponsive.). If you aren't lucky, you're going to get dinged by eBay and possibly Paypal for not fulfilling your end of the agreement. Exactly
When you sold it to the guy and took his money it now belonged to him, you dont have the right to resell it again. You prob have the right to throw it in the trash if he never picks it up, but you cant and shouldn't resell his property. Give the guy his money back.
Is there any way this can be similar to the scam where you are paid or overpaid, the buyer cancels and after you refund, you learn their first payment was bogus. I don't know if this can happen will eBay.
