What do you guys think about the talk of the Raiders moving to Vegas?

It seems like a realistic possibility. Personally I like the idea. The Raiders seem like a natural fit for the city and it would be cool to see a game while on vacation.

Damn, training and hosting games in the desert......

On second thought it might not be too bad. It is a fall sport.

Never is a long time. The NFL is a business. If there is potential profiteering on the horizon, you will be proven wrong.

It seems like a good fit because they're the maverick, freewheeling, antiestablishment Raiders? That is played. The new Raiders are as vanilla as the Giants.

Professional football has been around for a long time, still no team. I like my chances.
Why does anyone think the NFL would profit in LAS? Why are there no major professional sports there now???

If a pro team is in Vegas, people will not be able to legally wager on them. People like betting on football.

Besides the squeaky clean image that the Commish and NFL brand must withhold, the biggest issue I see is this...

No fan support. No Season ticket holders...Clark County residents don't want it, and are mostly east coast or Cali transplants anyways who will remain loyal and still support their teams from back "home"

The other problem, which will happen when/if the franchise moves, is that they are going to upset a large custome/fan base that may turn their back to the game. Other sports out there, or simply direct focus or more importantly $$$ to college.

And even if this was going to happen, moving the Raiders is a horrible decision. The talk is only about them because their home for 2018 is uncertain. Move mediocre franchises with no history like the Jaguars, Titans, or Texans

There are so many inaccuracies in your post, I don't know where to start....

"If a pro team is in Vegas, people will not be able to legally wager on them. People like betting on football."

You are correct, but this has ZERO bearing on any potential decision the NFL will make on allowing the Raiders to relocate from Oakland to Las Vegas.

"No fan support. No Season ticket holders..."

Completely inaccurate. 65,000 seats on 8 Sundays a stone's throw from the strip? Guaranteed sellout. Luxury suites will be sold out faster than any team in the league, a la T Mobile Arena. The suites will be gobbled up by MGM Resorts, CET, Wynn and Venetian/ Palazzo in a nanosecond. Every seat will be accounted for. The sports world loves Vegas on NFL Sundays. The games will sellout. Period. The Raiders are approaching contender status as well, and will attract fans from all over the globe being in Vegas.

"And even if this was going to happen, moving the Raiders is a horrible decision. The talk is only about them because their home for 2018 is uncertain. Move mediocre franchises with no history like the Jaguars, Titans, or Texans"

Are you making these comments based on emotion? The talk is because Mark Davis, the OWNER wants to move them to Las Vegas. (only because their home is uncertain?)

Major business decisions are made due to the collaboration of powerful people. Mark Davis, Roger Goodell and Sheldon Adelson are all involved in this. There is traction. There are also major obstacles that need to be overcome, but they are further in discussions than I ever though possible, which means one thing.... It's a strong possibility that the Raiders are moving to Las Vegas.

I would love to see this happen in addition to getting an NHL team. The biggest problem is the owner will want to city to help pay for a domed stadium and the city has no interest in doing so. The fan base in Oakland is larger than LV and with the 49ers so far out of the city in Santa Clara, the Raiders might pick up some extra fans. Half is SF/Oakland Bay Area is a better market than all of LV!

NFL plays multiple games a year in the UK in cities that already allow sports gambling.

Once one league goes to Vegas, all of them will. It's just a question of when, and who wants to be first.

The newer owners aren't nearly as against the idea of a team in Las Vegas. Davis would have the backing of both Texas owners, this means San Antonio is out of the mix for the Raiders. He would have the backing of the Rams and Chargers, Rams since they just moved and Chargers because it clears the path to LA for them. The 49ers probably would welcome the chance to have the SF market all to themselves. That right there is a quarter of the votes needed. The old guard was completely blown out of the water by the new regime on the Rams move to LA. They would only have to convince half of the remaining owners that Vegas is good for everyone. Making money is more important to any of these guys than the integrity of the game. This is not the group of guys that built the league up anymore.

I agree that once one sport moves in the others will follow. It will be the next city held up as the threat to move to. It is coming fast. If the NHL announces expansion in the next couple of months, the Raiders to Vegas drum will only get louder.

The only thing that would hold this up is the stadium. Can they get the funding, how quickly can they build it, and what happens to the Raiders in the meantime; do they stay in Oakland A's a lame duck franchise, which the NFL would not like at all? Or is it possible to play a couple of seasons at Sam Boyd?

That'll be where this makes or breaks. Not the gambling.

You make a couple points, but lost me when you said the Raiders are a contender. What.

Why couldn't Vegas sportsbooks take action on the Vegas Raiders? They take bets on UNLV games. And all the conference tournament games played in Vegas.
