Is it just me, or does every place that wants to have a "pool scene" just put neon blue and green umbrellas and throw pillows in to make the place look more "vivid"? As much as I love the Plaza, this just looks so templated.

More lipstick on a pig. They tried the stage thing a couple years ago. They have tried new cabanas several times. They tried serving beverages. They followed through on none of these things, only doing them half assed, like most of the other things they do. Let the cabanas go to hell, never knew when the bar was going to be open, and never had decent music playing on the stage. One thing is for sure, the previously semi quiet South Tower rooms will now be as loud as the ones facing Fremont St if they have music on that stage. Lol,

If it follows in Plaza tradition, the pool will open with no seating. Or the deck will open with seating and no water in the pool. And the front desk will definitely not even know they have a pool.

I think you're slightly off on what they're doing with the pool area this time around. The previous upgrades were minimal. This time around, they are completely revamping the area.

You might want to take note of when The Plaza started receiving compliments on this board and when people started use words like improved, and better, and receptive, and fun. I think you will find that it matches up pretty close to when the new CEO took over. Redoing the pool area, accepting early check-ins, upgrading the pay tables, adding live music to the bar, a march madness party, cleaning up the sportsbook, good fair craps and bj games, and a very strong initial rebate isn't putting lipstick on a pig. What is it? It's a ceo that pays attention to his customers, and pays attention to this message board, and actually seems to give a damn about The Plaza and its customers.

Nope, most of the people on this board look at it only as putting lipstick on a pig. Fair craps? You gotta be kidding, go to MSS and you get higher odds and friendlier pit crew and you can save your hearing without a loud band blaring music when you play. Resort fees, is that listening to the customers? Rebates? I never saw them. No the CEO doesn't give a damn about the customers and only cares about them giving money to the Plaza. Look at what he did with the LVC, basically ran it to the ground.

As for better and receptive, that was because of the great hosts that they hired but then fired them. The hosts came to this board to show what a great place the plaza was and genuinely tried to convince us that the Plaza was a great place to stay and play. Unfortunately the hosts could only listen to our gripes but were unable to make any changes that would make the Plaza a better place. Read Yolla's thread and you will see that management doesn't give a rip what we or the hosts think and only pays attention to this board to try to get more people through their doors and tables. People actually went to the plaza to visit Yolla and Curt because they were so friendly and helpful here.

Show of hands, how many of us go to the plaza to play? Not that many. I go to the plaza but only to visit the jerky store upstairs to buy stuff to bring home. I do check out the tables but I don't play there, I saw the craps crew making fun of a customer when they were leaving (as a worker you don't make negative comments about customers within earshot of other customers) so I rather give my business to the boyd properties. I even stayed at the Plaza a couple of years ago but I didn't play there.

I think there are just as many negative postings here, many people have given up on the Plaza and the current management and most were happy that the LVC was sold and hope that new management can make that place a better place to stay and play.

Putting lipstick on a pig IMHO is exactly what they did and are doing to the Plaza.

    I agree.
I don't pretend to understand what their staffing issues are,
but I see a property that is improving, and I like it.

+1. Completely agree. Hopefully they will continue to do what is necessary to turn things around and, just as important, give visitors a reason to stay and play at the Plaza.

The pool renovation looks nice but I kind of wonder if they are trying to turn the pool area into a day club scene with the live music and cabanas. Not too sure that model will work downtown.....but I give them credit for reinvesting in their property and at least trying.

I agree, i go in there each trip wanting to play and usually dont., I'm like " do i really want to sit at this lone table with worse conditions than i just left" and then I walk a quick circle around the pit and leave.

So how is the pool coming along???? If it won't be done by June we would like to find a different hotel to stay at. Not sure we are willing to take the chance it won't be done. This will be a pool vacation and without a pool it wouldn't be much fun. Recent photos ext. thanks.

I don't have pics, but they are hiring for pool staff, so things must be progressing. I can't imagine they will just give up on Memorial Day unless they just can't make it.

Yes, I have always given them credit for trying. They tried golf on the casino floor. They tried scantily clad hairdressers. They tried giving free rooms in return for timeshare presentation (without telling you about the timeshare presentation). They tried removing all of the ticket redemption machines. They tried no music. They tried loud music. They tried having security, then no security, now half time security. They tried a bandstand on the pool deck. They tried drink service on the pool deck.

And on and on. They have tried most everything, but only half way, and never giving anything a chance to sink in before giving up on it.

I am not sure if it will be done in June or not. Not a lot of progress since the last picture posted, and Monday and Tuesday I only counted 4-6 people working at a time, and only part of the day. I followed advice here, and went to the Downtown Grand and used their pool. It was very nice, with great service and food. Depending on what happens with the Plaza pool, such as type of music played, price of drinks, etc, I will keep DTG as a back up even if not staying there.

I'm looking forward to it and this may be my new DT home. Last trip in Dec. I saw a huge improvement in "vibe" without it being over the top or not fitting into the Downtown vibe. I was sick before I left (and didn't know it) and hardly left the Plaza because of lack of energy. But I enjoyed many "medicinal beverages" at the full pay machines at the bar. Never had such a good time, when I was feeling bad!

Plaza is improving...but to compete with the downtown powerhouses, they've got a LONG way to go...
