    Paid Parking at MGM

Do we know any more details about the paid parking and when it's going to be rolled out at the MGM properties?

I spoke to the reservations department last week at the Monte Carlo and they told me they had only just been made aware of the idea but had no solid details of exactly when and how much. Perhaps it is still being decided before it gets officially announced.

I'm very curious how they will work this. Will they install ticket machines at the entrances, or have manned booths? Will they ask for payment upon entry or when you leave? How can we get this comped? Are hotel guests exempt from this fee? Are certain Mlife tiers exempt from this fee? I have a million questions!

Edit - Sorry I read all the posts from the beginning and answered almost all of my own questions... my bad!

The delay is due to a problem with the 3rd party vendor. The system is sopposed to connect all properties kiosks so you only pay once.

Looks like I'm safe for my trip. Pretty positive from these threads as well as asking mlife and Aria . It won't start this month.

Wouldn't you think they would give 2-3-4 weeks notice before implementation?

    NYNY Parking

Barely found out about the paid parking. Has this begun at NYNY? Or is paid parking only for even nights? This whole damn thing is confusing. Staying at NYNY the next couple nights

You will be good for this trip. Looks more like end of May at the earliest.

Rather than boycott MGM hotels, just avoid spending $10 a day on a cocktail or food. If every customer did this, they might take notice. You might also skip buying something equivalent to the resort fees daily.

That's the most likely consequence and I think they are fine with it. I wonder if some of the restaurant owners paying high rents agree.

Any updates on when Free Parking at MGM Properties will disappear?

Just curious if the charges for parking on MGM properties has been implemented yet or not. Last I heard was sometime in June? Does anyone have any new information on when the MGM properties will be charging for parking, which properties and how much?

    Thanks.

This will definitely weigh into my decision whether to rent a car in Vegas.

I agree with the money grab, however, i see CET taking advantage of MGM's money grab with the parking fees soon to be implemented

People staying at MGM properties will bypass parking at MGM hotels and just park at CET properties (or non MGM and park at Hooters, Tropicana, etc.) and just walk back to their hotels. But that creates problems for CET for having free parking, so the feeling is CET will eventually have to charge for parking in order to keep MGM people from taking all of the spots that would normally be used for CET.

However, as a fan boy of CET.......LOL, i see a way to keep parking free and at the same time only allowing CET hotel customers the free option (similar to uses of the pools etc).

CET hotel guests and only CET hotel guests, people who have checked into CET properties and for the duration of their stay, will have a pass to get into and out of garages of CET hotels free of charge. This will prevent non CET guests from parking at CET properties. When you enter a CET garage, you swipe your room key (your room # will be recognized), this will allow you to go in and out of Caesars, Harrah's, LinQ, Flamingo, Cromwell, Bally's, Paris, and PHO freely.

The "code" transmits that you are staying at a CET hotel from date A to date B. Once you check out, the "code" becomes invalid, ready for the next CET paying customer with a new "code"

If, for whatever reason, a non CET customer wants to park at CET properties, like if you're staying at Mandalay Bay but want to catch a show at Caesars or visit restaurants at PHO, you can validate your parking fee. So if you pay $10 to get into the garage, your validated ticket will reimburse you the $10 by giving you $10 in CET credits. That way CET won't lose money at CET properties for doing business other than the hotel. But this normally wouldn't happen often. People staying down at MGM properties will just walk up, take the Tram, use the Monorail, bus, etc. if they want to "hang" around Center Strip. But it does reward non hotel guests if you want to park at CET properties.

The whole idea, for CET, is to get business away from MGM by advertising free parking at CET properties, by staying there or doing business there. CET rewards customers even if they're not staying there but doing business there.

Vegas is trying to squeeze at much green as they can get. I say stay ahead of that as much as you can. I reward CET for my stay and play, they reward me with free rooms and free resort fees with SR. Even if people stay at MGM properties, CET can still reward them with $10 (or whatever the amount is for parking), with reimbursing the fee knowing that they are still spending money at CET.

Many tourists who drive their own car or decide to rent a car will soon realize that it will be cheaper to stay at CET in the long run with MGM gauging another fee just to park there. Many tourists like to drive/rent cars because they visit Hotels/Casinos outside of the Strip and/or visit Downtown, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, etc.

For all the people who are not high on the totem pole with their play and will probably never will, CET can say we are doing something that MGM isn't, rewarding customers by keeping parking free. Customers who are staying at CET and/or customers who are dining, shopping, seeing shows etc. at CET properties, have an incentive for doing business at CET if they are driving/renting cars.

Yes, it probably won't mean much to people never planning to drive a car in Vegas thereby never paying the parking fee, or they are at a higher level with their play with the color of their card and won't have to pay the fee, but at least some people may decide to stay at CET instead of MGM in knowing the buck stops here. Enough is enough.

We all know what's going to happen with CET: 6-12 months of marketing "parking is free here", then a sudden start at parking charges stating "you wanted paid parking, so here it is".

These guys will only learn to do away with the fee crap through an economic crisis like in 2008. I don't see any other way for them to get rid of bullshit fees, as they don't value the customer even one bit.
