Just got done rolling this.....

I was shocked after living in Vegas for a while and needing to cash in coins, that banks there don't do it. Back here, they all do it for free if you have an account. I did end up at Coinstar when I found out about the no-fee gift card you could choose as an option, instead of paying a fee for cash.

 

We bring ours to are local casino, they have a coin machine and will do it FREE, Our coins are used for expensive dinners and shows. Good luck on next trip

 

My jar normally produces 100.00 to 140.00 and it's soley to add to the Vegas bankroll. I used to reserve it for cabfare but since Uber is credit card only, it goes toward my initial play on my first sessions of either slots or roulette. I am a Coinstar user since my "coin in" is relatively low, I don't mind the fee that's around 10-11%. If i was looking at those larger amounts, hundreds +, I doubt if I would hand over that kind of money for the service.

Everybody has their ideas about convenience/value. Normally, I wait till the last minute to cash my coins in. So, I just run to the closest Coinstar machine rather than spending time rolling. That's just me though.

We stash our change in a plastic football that used to hold a beer from some joint downtown. When it is totally full it averages $230 or so. This becomes tip and meal money for whatever trip is upcoming. Luckily our bank has a fee free counting machine in the lobby for people with accounts there.

 

Time was I went to LV more and always a guys golf trip in the summer. Pre debit card days, I would save quarters and singles for the 12 months before the trip. I had one Glenfiddich cylinder to save quarters and it held about $300 and the $1 cylinder about $5-600 of banded bills, although I never filled one. Each year I would have $15-1600 for the trip depending on timing. Times change using cards though. I always carry $50-100 in my wallet, but rarely use it. I can't remember the last time I had a coin in my pocket. I'd be lucky to save $100 for the trip now without trying.

That's cool Mike! Good for you! When I was a kid, my Grandpa had a glass jar about the size of a peanut-butter jar on his dresser he'd fill with coins and give to me. I'd roll 'em and take 'em to the bank. I wouldn't have guessed $1,750, but could easily tell you had some work to do on that! Hope it turns into the BIG JACKPOT for you!

 

I don't bring home nearly as many coins as I used to in my twenties. I don't eat as much fast food and I use my debit card for nearly all my spending.

 

I use a plastic mop bucket. Holds about $800.00. I usually average $600.00.
I have no patience for "Rolling my own" so I take it to the machine at Publix.
