Is the Monte Carlo Buffet any good? How does it compare to some of the lower end buffets like MGM, Excalibur, or Luxor? How does it compare to the Station Casino buffets?

I eat at MC Buffet quite a bit, since I usually stay next door, and it's quick and easy. But, no it isn't very good. Honestly, to me, the quality of all the buffets is basically the same. Some do "x" better than "y", where other's do "y" better than "x" ... but when it comes down to it ..... it's all buffet food, and as such, the quality is going to be ... well .... for lack of a better word .... "buffetish". The main difference, to me, is basically selection. Some of the more expensive ones offer more seafood selections which alot of people like, but I don't care for cold seafood that much. And all of them just have cold shrimp and cold crab legs and the like. Some offer more global cuisine type options, and some just offer the standards. None of them are "good" but Monte Carlo isn't really "bad" it's limited.

I would say it rounds out the bottom 3, with Luxor and Excal being the other two. We have eaten there twice, only because its hard to argue with free.

I actually was fine with the MC buffet. As with any buffet, there will be some good items, and some bad. All in all, I had no problem eating there. I've never eaten at Luxor/Exc. but I HAVE eaten at MGM. I don't know if it was a bad day at MGM, but we ate there at lunch, and it was inedible. For me, it was actually my least favorite buffet of Vegas. But again, maybe I hit it on a really, really bad day.

Back to MC though, they have enough decent items to make it worth hitting. They DO have eggs benedict in the mornings too, which I am a BIG fan of. I stick to the easier items though, prime rib, salmon (if cooked right), veggies, omlettes in the morning, etc. I usually find the pasta dishes at most buffets are so-so, but I cook a lot at home so am picker on these. Also, for some reason I have never seen a buffet do the Mexican food portion well, or Chinese. On MC, it's not the best buffet on the strip, but also not the worst, and I found plenty of items I enjoyed.

My top buffets are Planet Hollywood (they have a really good middle eastern bar, done right) and Paris. Paris might be my top, as they have a lot of slow-cooked classic dishes such as Beef bourguignon, roasted root veggies, truffle mac n cheese (ok, not "classic," but decadent!), slow-simmered dishes, etc. If you're a fan of old-world, slow cooked meals, to me, this is the best bang for your buck.

Second is Aria. Will be trying Wicked Spoon (Can't WAIT----great reviews and unusual items) and Bellagio's this trip. I've also hit Mirage and Treasure Island.

But for a mid-range buffet, I'd eat at MC again, but NOT EVER IN A MILLION YEARS at MGM, if at all avoidable.

Havent been in years. Went there a few times because we were staying there...It was adequate. Wouldn't make a special stop there but if the casino might consider it.

Thanks for the reviews, am staying there in April and was debating using the Myvegas breakfast comp on there. That looks like all I need so will book with confidence now!

I would not hesitate to eat breakfast at the Monte Carlo, MGM, Luxor or Excalibur on a myvegas reward.
Although the last time at the Excal I was able to eat red raspberries in a very large portion.

Dinner buffet is another story, I would skip the Monte Carlo period. I just don't see things I like to eat in their choices. I did like the MGM but its been a while since I had dinner there. The Luxor-Excal 24 hour pass was a great deal as I sampled from both several times during the 24 hours. I don't know if the 24 hour pass still exists.
I have eaten at most all buffets on the strip, the worst being the New Frontier. Harrahs was not too bad but it was ridiculous to beg for a spoon to stir my morning coffee. The waiter admitted he was ordered not to place spoons at breakfast tables. " How do you eat cereal without a spoon?":

i used the MyVegas reward for buffets here. Was not a fan at all. I tried to justify it by saying it was free, but even that didn't help.

MC Buffet not the best but not the worst either. I will agree with other comments that it is as good if not better than the MGM Buffet. I personally like breakfast at the MC Buffet. I think it's around $15.95 and has always been really good for the price with a nice selection.

We have tried the Monte Carlo and MGM Grand buffet for breakfast and dinner. The MGM Grand buffet has more variety but we liked the food better at the Monte Carlo buffet. In our opinion the food at the MC buffet was better at breakfast and dinner. But then again, you can't really argue taste. It's all about personal preference.

Agreed!! Used this reward 3 times over the past year and a half. Every time I say I will never eat there again. It's like: How can you screw-up breakfast?!?!
I will never eat their buffet again, even if it's free. :vomit:

    That is what I thought.

The old Imperial Palace found a way to screw up breakfast. Horrible!

I used the MC buffet reward last summer for breakfast and it was TERRIBLE. The selection was awful, the quality of the food was awful and the service was non-existent (you have to get up and serve yourself drinks). There are so many places to eat in Vegas that I can and will argue against free - I would rather pay for something of quality rather than subject myself to a free meal that I already know is going to be substandard.

Monte Carlo is better then Excalibur and Luxor. The MGM to be is far better than all 3. Like most of the previous posts. When using a myvegas free offer.... Why complain.

We always used to eat the MC buffet, haven't in about 2 years but the last time we did it was fine. It's basic, nothing to write home about but the selection has always been decent and the price was right. I've never tried Excalibur, maybe this is unfair but years ago we tried Luxor and the food was horrific. They may have improved so as I said it may be unfair.

We usually get comped at Aria buffet and the food quality is excellent although I find some of the selections odd. Lately our comps have been resort based so we've been going to the Aria Cafe instead which is excellent.

I have to agree with others..breakfast there was very bad. It was free and I still felt ripped off.

Monte Carlo buffet is an excellent option if....

    1) You're literally within minutes away from dying of starvation
    2) You're being held at gun point and the only way to get out of situation is to go in
    3) You're being paid a significant amount of money to eat there
    4) You've born without the sense of taste or have lost it at some point
    5) You don't mind food poisoning but actually find it rather funny and as an interesting experience

Otherwise, there are better options available. Their food court has McDonald's for example.

I ate at the Monte Carlo buffet once when I was staying there and it's nothing special It's just a basic, entry level buffet. I've eaten at MGM's buffet as well and thought it was better with a bit more variety but the quality was similar. I've also been to Mirage, Cosmo, Bellagio, Aria, Mandalay Bay and Planet Hollywood buffet and I'd rank them all like this.

    Cosmo (Wicked spoon)
    Aria
    Bellagio
    Mirage
    Mandalay Bay
    MGM
    Planet Hollywood
    Monte Carlo
