Glad they don't hold back on shutting a restaurant down but I gotta say, the Mirage is the last place I'd imagine to be closed down because of violations like this.

Basic health ratings aren't about culinary acumen or chops, they're basic -- and admittedly sometimes seemingly silly, like x inches off the deck for storage shelves -- duh stuff. To tumble to a C or an instant closure just takes an out-and-out decision to be a pig.

I never would think BLT would fail the standards of the Nevada Health Dept. It just shows you that there are no favorites or double standards: you fail to meet the standards, you go down.

I don't know if we can go so far as to say no faves or dubs in inspections, given the size of the sample, but maybe folks should take off the glasses that just because it's in Vegas, it is of course rosy.

Over the years, I've listed many negatives about living in Vegas, but I always thought their restaurant inspections and requiring the restaurant to post their grade for all to see was excellent!

LOL, funny that you mention that. I saw a review for BLT at Ballys where one of the people got food poisoning from eating there. Now I'm scared about where I'll eat. UGH.

As someone who used to own a restaurant(for a short time) I have to agree. Reading some of the violations they had it seems apparent to me the management and staff were oblivious and absolutely unconcerned with the basics of food handling and health. To be in that industry and not be aware day in and day out of the consequences of situations like the Chipotle debacle is astounding to normal poeple. Just think what it would be like to eat in their employees home kitchens(places I've seen first hand, as a result of my profession).

Scandalous! When a big name restaurant gets shut down, the Vegas press sees ratings gold. This one is concerning because they failed a re inspection when the norm is to clean up and take a C to an A. And I can see it happening anywhere because it's not like the casino is actively involved in the day to day operations of the restaurants under their roofs. Most strip casinos that have had a restaurant shut down at some point or another.

Well, need to find another spot to eat as this was on the itinerary for lunch March 30th after visiting the Secret Gardens. Any suggestions?

Hopefully it's still closed when I arrive at the Mirage in early April. I never like the aroma walking past that place, always smells like burning metal to me (if that makes sense).

The restaurant was reopened before the article was even published. It was closed last wednesday, I was there last saturday and it was open business as usual.

It would be fine now, the list of 'offenses' was pretty minor. You can find similar things at any restaurant at any given time if you are looking for it. They were probably consistently rude and non chalant about it and the health unit needed to show they mean business. I woundnt think twice about eating there, if anything its probably the cleanest place to eat now!
