I'm coming out this summer to play some WSOP events and want to stay at the Rio for the convenience and easy access to the poker areas. I stayed at the Rio several years ago and don't remember much about the rooms unfortunately, are they all pretty much the same or are there any newer/upgraded rooms? What's the best? Etc. Thanks in advance

I've stayed there 4-5 times the last couple of years. There are 2 towers, Masquerade and Ipanema. I always stay in the Ipanema.tower. The rooms are nicer. The Masquerade tower does have some updated rooms, called Samba Suites. But I prefer the rooms in Ipanema. The non Samba rooms in the Masquerade tower have the creepy window between the bathroom and the rest of the room. All standard rooms at the Rio are 600 sq ft. Also in the Masquerade tower you could hear noise from Voodoo if you are up high enough. I wouldn't worry about Strip View vs. Mountain View. You are a mile from the strip so that view is nothing special.

I like the Rio but it is getting worn. Caesars isn't sticking any money into it. I like being able to walk to Gold Coast and Palms. I like that they have 2 separate strip shuttles (Bally's and Harrah's) that run frequently.

Thanks for the reply Vegasvic! When looking at the TR website I have offers for Classic, Deluxe, and Luxury Suites, do you know which ones are in what tower by chance?

Here's the breakdown in "CET" Speak from other properties I've been at:

Classic: Old (like, should have been renovated a long time ago)
Deluxe: Base room. Age dependent on last renovation. If these are old, count on the "classic" rooms to have an old tube TV and shag carpet.
Luxury: Same as a base room with a few newer/nicer features

If you are going Sun-Thur I would just book the cheapest room. $20 trick has ALWAYS worked for me to get a nice room in the Ipanema except one time when checking in on a Sunday there was nothing available in that tower. So I had one night in Masquerade (hated the room) and then moved over to the IP tower the next day.

You should also look up the Samba rooms. There are some Youtube videos that show them. I didn't really care for it but some like them and so might you. Those are in Masquerade.

Agree with this strongly, especially if doing the $20 trick at VIP check in, which only requires Platinum at the Rio.

A few months ago we stayed in an Ipanema tower Corner room (end of hallway) and had plumbing problems (sink backed up). The rest of the room was great, and we had probably the best and most interesting strip view we have ever had in Las Vegas.

I stayed in the Ipanema Tower mainly because i use the shuttle which is just outside the door when you get off the elevators and an easy walk across the street to Gold Coast. I also preferred the Ipanema Casino as well. I am Gold and used the $20 tip and i got a room with a panoramic view of the Strip overlooking the pool. My room had multiple windows, i could see the North Strip all the way down to MGM/NYNY.
I stayed there 2 years ago, so it may be different now, but i loved Rio and i always get comped but i also got comped at Harrah's so when i go in Nov. i will stay at Harrah's but still take the shuttle to Rio to eat at Gold Coast.

Do you find the 20 trick doesn't work if you have booked the trip via third party like Expedia?
