I read somewhere there are no cameras on the hotel room floors. I find this hard to believe because they have cameras everywhere. Could this be true?

Most hotels do not have cameras on hotel floors. And the cameras they have elsewhere are strategically placed to protect their assets primarily, not to watch and protect guests. There was a big article on the subject a year or so ago.

I heard that too and would prefer to see a few cameras.

I've never noticed a camera, and I've looked for them.

Correct - hotel hallways are usually without cameras. They're in elevators and the elevator lobbies but not in the hallways.

I remember reading about it a couple years ago after the Rio had a room theft problem during WSOP

I for one would like to see security cameras in hallways. Why aren't there any? Is it a legal issue? As I get older I think I would feel more comfortable if there were cameras.

MSS and the Cal both have cameras in their hallways on each floor. I remember seeing cameras at MB but not sure if they cover the whole hallway (saw some near the elevator areas).

Never did look for them at other hotels like Flamingo and Linq, etc. etc. But guess I will check them out the next time I stay at other hotels. I will get back to you on the ones at the El Cortez since I will be there in 2 weeks.

Yes, MSS has multiple hallway cameras on every floor.

I agree especially with the amount of room thefts that happen.

You'd think they'd have them in the hallways to protect themselves and the guests. But I guess they want deniability for issues that may arise. Hear no evil, see no evil.

Damn, I never noticed before. I always thought that they never put any in the hallways. That's nice to know since my home casino is the Cal. Would be nice if it was a universal thing....

I know "The Golden Nugget" has them in the hallways of the older tower.
I had switched my Vegas hotel - got nice + hammered playing craps downstairs -
went up to my room....and I went to the previous room number ( of last hotel ).
I was laughing when I got on the security phone in the hallway - and they straightened
me out --- but they must have pulled me up on screen in Security Room -- I was talking right into the camera.
I said, "Hey...I'm lost...what the hell's my room number ?"....they were chuckling !

Actually I checked them out at the Cal hallways to see if there were any "blind" spots. Because the hallway is so long (I think 24 rooms on each side) they have cameras right at the beginning of each side and another pair near the middle.

They also have cameras near the elevators on each floor so I guess like some tv shows they can show you walking from one place to another in the casino (if they had to track your movements).

I don't know why, Mr. Flusher, but it seems that you are just the type of person that would do this, LOL!! :poke:

I'll definitely remember to do this next time out!

This is funny! And I'm pretty sure your situation wasn't the first time for them!

Montecito has cameras on each floor. I saw Danny McCoy and Mike Cannon use them to look for people. I miss that show.

I don't know why they don't have them on every floor. It's been suggested that having cameras in the hallways may actually increase the hotel's liability if there is theft or worse. I think that there are not valuable enough casino assets in the average hallway to protect. Every if there were camera in hotels, realize they wouldn't be actively monitored. The footage would be there for police but no one would necessarily see you get jumped in hall or see someone break into your room in time to stop it.
