Question. For the simplicity of the situation, let's say you are going to have 2-3 nights to gamble. Let's make your bankroll is a nice even 10K. What is your approach? Cash in at the table (if you are a table player) for the full amount, half, or smaller amounts?

Me, personally, I cash in a session amount and play. In this scenario, say 1000. I may often set aside a bank roll that I'm "OK" with losing, but will rarely come close to losing the entire amount. Very rarely even losing half of it actually.

Pretty conservative I suppose. I just don't want to be sitting around bored, because I had premature lossation and blew my entire bankroll on the first day or something.

I get teased by friends with the whole "scared money don't make money." What about all of you? Balls to the wall, pace yourself, or somewhere in between?

For me, it is entirely dependent on my "base bet" (or "Average bet") for the table & session I'm about to play.
For example, (using this $10K hypothetical trip bankroll):
    1. $25 blackjack table... planned session is for 1 hour. Estimated number of hands = 70. Base bet = $30. I use a 20% rule... 70X$30 = $2100. $2100 x 20% = $420. I'd round that down to $400.
    2. $5 UTH table... planned session is for 1 hour. Estimated number of hands = 30. Avg. bet = $45; ($10-$10-$5 with 2x ante). (Same 20% rule) 30x$45 = $1350. $1350 x 20% = $270. I'd round up to $300.

Since I play about 14 one-hour sessions per day, split about 9 hours blackjack & 5 hours UTH, my "daily" bankroll (for loss-limits) would be about $3000. So, if at any point I found myself down by $3000 (give or take), I would stop gambling for the day...except for the last day.
But given the low HA for blackjack, and the relatively low 'element of risk' for UTH, I strongly suspect that I'd be able to keep my losses at less than $3000/day, and still play 14 one-hour sessions.

Ignore your friends. I play a lot like you--conservatively because A) I like gambling and B) I can't gamble if I lose my entire bankroll.

My BR is about 1/5 of your example--typically $2500 for four nights and play between $5-$15 blackjack. I buy in for 20 units ($100/$200/$300) and take a break/walk away if I'm down 10 units. If I get up, I have a preserve-win system I use because C) it feels good to walk away a winner, even a small winner.

Others of course, enjoy the rush of risking more. Whatever works for you!

I'm like you in the sense that I don't want to blow my bankroll and be left hanging out in Vegas for a day or 2 or 3 with no cash. My trips are usually 5 nights and my bankroll is about 5k. I also have the disability of chasing my loses...so I play conservatively and depending on how things go adjust accordingly. During the first part of my trip I like to spend some time doing some non-gambling things, such as pool time, shopping, shows, etc but on the last day or two of my trip I focus more on gambling at higher limits, with the hopes of the big win (rarely happens haha).

So, in your example, assuming 3 nights...I would plan to play 2-2.5k per day the first 2 days then go big on the last night. This would obviously be adjusted should I have some luck in the beginning.

An example of deviating from the 'plan'...On one trip awhile back I was with my brother and a friend. We got to Vegas late afternoon and played some low limit blackjack ($15/hand I think), having drinks, and just enjoying being in Vegas and looking forward to the days ahead. We each won 2-3 hundred so we pooled $100 each and hit up the $5 WoF machines. We played for about an hour on a bank of 6 machines and cashed out about 4k. We were at the Wynn, drink service was great and we were all pretty hammered. In any case, although it was my first night there I found myself at the $100 BJ table. Drunk blackjack usually doesn't end well and this was no exception haha...I blew my slot winnings fairly quickly. I had a great night and went to bed with 100% of what I arrived in Vegas with, which was nice...but it still sucked a little to know I could have woke up being $1500 ahead after my first day. But I had a great time and made some good memories (that I can remember anyway), so it wasn't that bad.

i try not to think too much. just whatever "feels right" If i feel a hot shoe, ill buy in for more and bet more. if its cold ill sit back bet minimum and enjoy free drinks. generally if i am up 4 times my buy in ill cash out because tables do not stay hot for that long.

I just make a daily budget , all the winnings go in the pocket for the new trip !

i got a max of 400$ a day and im going for 8 days , so i got 3200$ gamble money and not a single dollar more ! :)

U guys think 400 $ is a good amount of money to spend at gambling ? i play slots ~0.40 cts ~ 1dollar per spin.

also playing some 60~100 dollar poker tournaments !

It depends on the style of betting you want. Do you want marathon grinds or short but higher bets?

In your scenario I would split my total bankroll into thirds if that's how many nights I'll be there in order to have a loss limit. I tend to favor shorter but frequent sessions. So it'd be a smaller buy in at say blackjack, color up after about an hour or so....if I go on a hot streak I might start setting aside chips that I know I'll color up. Not rat holing but setting aside as do not bet so that I have some bankroll for later sessions. I tend to like to have about 20 units of my base bet to get started.

In the last couple years I've starting putting any hundred dollar bills I get when cashing out a tito into my wallet. Once it goes in my wallet it stays until I get home. I mostly play video poker and it has worked pretty good on the last few trips. In December we took a quick trip to Bossier City and I only took a little over a grand with me but when we got back I had 18 $100 hundred dollar bills in my wallet. I was surprised since I did not have any big wins and played more slots than normal.

$400 for slots at those bets will mean you're done slotting in 3hours or less of active play.

    I play it by feel

Depending on my bankroll and how I'm feeling that day. Usually I'll buy in for $500-1000 at craps and blackjack.

In my mind I'll split up the bankroll evenly for the days I'll be there but if I tank early the first night sometimes I dip into the second day. If I lose then I'll quit and go do something else. The sports book and booze are nice diversionary tactics.

Before the trip I divide my bankroll by the number of days I am there.
On day 2 I divide my bankroll by the total I have left, on day 3 I do the same etc, etc.

So I am progressively playing with a bigger bankroll each day.
Despite having a larger bankroll each day I still have a comfort level of what limits I will play (for example I usually start with $25 blackjack but would never go over $100 no matter how big of a bankroll I have)
I usually buy in at 400 is I am playing $25 a hand. If I get up to $100 I usually buy in for $2000

When playing Poker variants (usually Let it Ride) I buy in for $200 regardless if the table is a $5 or $10 table.

I do the same for LIR. Today I went on a casino cruise that has super BJ rules and never played a hand due to the massive crowds. I did fid a LIR table open with 30 minutes to go they closed the casino but passed. The day started with me hitting a $5 Top Dollar bonus with free play and I ended up plus $140 on slots and VP with never being down. Plus the weather was fair an the seas low.

I break my bankroll down by day for example on 10k:
    Friday $3k
    Saturday $5k
    Sunday $2k
If I only lose 1k on Friday then i would go home with at least 1k. If I win, the winnings go home plus the $3k bankroll for Friday. One days bankroll never gets added in to the others just because I didn't lose it all. I never carry more than that days bankroll on me. I spend that days bankroll however I feel like it. It works pretty well for me only broke it once, and i would like to erase that gambling trip from memory

Nah. We've trips like that lots of times, and have played for 6-8 hours at that level. All depends on your luck. And your playing speed. I don't try to maximize the number of spins per hour. If anything, I'll slow-play it so I can soak up more booze from the well-tipped CW. Heck, last trip we each put a hundred into Big Bang Theory and played side-by-side for 3 hours.

Wow, I find it interesting so many here more or less have a daily allotment of funds. That said, that's what I used to do when I started gambling. I did it to ensure I never stuck with no gambling money for multiple days since I was new to gambling.

Now that I feel like I have complete control of knowing when to quit if the going is bad, I just buy in my session amount and just play when I feel like playing. Doesn't mean I don't tuck my tail in and call it an early night from time to time, but better than calling it quits in the morning haha.

I usually budget $500 a day for gambling but rarely loose it all in any given day. I will play $25 bj and buy in for $300 if getting killed leave with $100 or if I get to a purple chip I get up and walk away. Sometimes I have to leave a table in 5 min if I get hot right away and get up $200. I usually just find another table and play some more. If I get down $400 and it is the first day or I have no cushion from previous days I will stick the last $100 in a VP machine and that usually last a little while. I noticed playing blackjack I rarely have long runs of bad luck and often after a bad day I have a good day.

I usually bring anywhere from 1200-2000 when I go.. With myvegas for food I usually put away $100.00 away for food for a 4 day trip and with myvegas that pays for whole trip for food for myself and my dad.. Usually put away 50 for round trip transportation and bus pass for the strip..

As far as gambling I RARELY play slots if I do its like 50.00 the whole trip I usually play just holdem against the dealer or blackjack. Everything once in a while i throw money in the VP machine.

For $1500 on 4 days i usually get about 400 a day almost. I never let myself get down to much esp the beginning of the trip.. I try to spend as much time walking and visiting all the casinos and of course shop for my wife and kids while im there so that spreads out the money for the trip so it makes it last.

knock on wood i never leave vegas without any money.. Even after spending 500 on my wife the last 2 times and all the food and crap i still came home with 600. So cant complain.

I do almost the same thing. I just divide my BR with the number of day's I'm staying. If I have any left over from the day before, I use that up first, then take half of the current day, and see where I end up.

Break it down into $3,300 per day.
The extra $100 will be tossed on a number of some random roulette table, craps hardway bet or a slot machine.

The $3,300 for each day is broken down into something like $700 in the morning, $1000 allocated for the afternoon and the $1,600 for when I do the most heavy playing in the evening.
Keep in mind any money left over from the previous session/day gets rolled into the next.
As a result, I could easily still have $3,000 left over for the evening play which could be some nice higher limits and more aggressive play.
If all is going well, the next day could be a heck of a lot more than $3,300, but it will never be less due to the breakdown.
