My wife and I just got back from Vegas yesterday. Fun trip. Will post a TR soon (I hope, lol!)

Anyway, we went to see the Donny and Marie show. Great show btw.

Our tickets were $109.00 each plus fees. By the time they added all these "fees" up we payed $269.00 and some change. Approx. $134.00 each. On the ticket is a $15.00 "convenience fee".

WTF is that? Can anyone explain what this fee is for? Thanks!!

Another BS charge to remove money from your wallet. Like a resort fee for entertainment.

Funny thing about this convenience fee is that my wife and I didn't order online nor did we order from Ticketmaster or the likes. We actually on a whim went to the box office and inquired if there were any tickets available for the next show.

I don't think it matters where you get it. When I went to Flamingo website and tried to purchase tickets and it took me right to Ticketmaster.

Yeah no one can really say. Stubhub and ticketmaster and all other places do it now.

I even asked a rep at ticketmaster and they couldn't say.

It's all about companies reaching into your pocket any which way now.

You get the ticket on-site without having to order it online, so there is a convenience fee.
If you order online, no convenience fee, but there will be a processing fee or service fee, still $15.

It's a fee for the convenience of having them rape your wallet.

As others have said... just a way for them to take your money.

    No connivence at all.

Not unlike the car repair shop that is already hitting you up for $100 an hour and they add a few bucks for "shop materials".

Unfortunately Ticketmaster controls most of the shows in Las Vegas and frankly a lot of big cities.

If you want to see the show you have no choice.
Just like most resort fees,it is a way for them to bend you over and slam away!!

What I've found the consistency to be is that it's a business model thing - especially in price-competitive industries like hotels. Where you'd once build your profit margin into the actual price (e.g. hotel room is $99.99 per night) the idea seems to be that the "booking fee", "resort fee", "convenience fee", etc., is the guaranteed profit, and anything you make on the actual price is just a bonus. Viewing this neutrally, I can appreciate the need to cut out calculations of profitability (e.g. you can offer a cut-rate at $69.99 per night, knowing that each night will incur a $9.99 resort fee that's pure profit anyway) - and I can also appreciate that it's attractive to make things seem cheaper by leaving out components of the net cost so that they're marketable (remember the days of $39 flights that ended up being $200?).

Basically, it's just "guaranteed profit" and possibly "extra profit" for whoever the business is. There's no true merit to it other than to deceive you as a consumer and ensure that they're getting their share if they're selling for what is supposedly their rock bottom price.

It's convenient that Ticketmaster sells every ticket in the country, so they can charge whatever they like. Convenient for them.

Back in the 90s, the rock band Pearl Jam tried to singlehandedly fight Ticketmaster over their fees. Didn't work out too well for them. They eventually had to surrender to the almighty, all-powerful Ticketmaster just like everyone else.

Exactly. And it's a damn shame, because unlike trying to avoid 6:5 blackjack or bars with automatic gratuities, pretty much the only way to avoid this is to completely give up live music at ticketed venues, which is kind of a shitty option.
