    Hey all,

I've been to vegas several times but never stayed downtown, this year we're going to be attending the life is beautiful festival during our trip so plan to spend those 3 nights downtown just to make things easier. Where would everyone reccomend for staying whilst we're down there, its going to be a group of 4 guys ages 25-29,

    Thanks

El Cortez and the Plaza are two good suggestions......

If you want a place to just rest your head and take a shower, the El Cortez is probably a good bet. First, its cheap. Secondly, its close to all the bars and clubs on East Fremont where the young hipsters like to hang out.Third, best gambling in Vegas. However, if you're looking for some pool time, you would be out of luck since the "Tez doesn't have one. If you want a nice hotel and pool, the the Downtown Grand is the choice. Their problem is that the casino is dead. If you're looking for a hopping casino, the D is what you're looking for. Pounding music and go go dancers! If you're looking for the closest thing to a strip type place (ie more amenities, higher cost) then its the Golden Nugget. The Plaza combines a lot of the positives and negatives of all the other places

Plaza is very good. I've stayed there twice and highly recommend it.

I would personally discourage Cortez. It's cheap, but you get what you pay for. The room I got was drafty, very run-down, and the wifi was absolutely horrible. I had booked five nights there but cut my stay short after two nights in favour of moving elsewhere.

For what it's worth, The D has some really good rates right now. I just booked a Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon in the end of March for just over $160 USD total. That's a place that I know isn't half bad and isn't going to run you an arm and a leg like the GN might.

But yeah, Plaza yes, Cortez no. That's my input.

It depends upon which rooms you get at the "Tez. The tower rooms are pretty nice and he Cabana Suites are great. I have never stayed in the old original rooms so I can't say anything about them. I also don't know anything about Wifi there since I never use it - too busy drinking and gambling.

Normally I would recommend people stay at Downtown Grand or The Golden Nugget (closest thing to a strip quality hotel room). You mentioned you are a group of guys going to the musical festival, my guess your goal is drinking, a little gambling, and partying.
So the only place to stay downtown would be The D for your demographic. Second choice would be Golden Gate. Your gonna get a decent Days Inn quality room (unless you spring for a suite), your gonna get booze comp'd, have lower table limits, and a loud music party vibe place to hang out.

Plaza will be slightly nicer rooms, but its not a party vibe. If you have the cash to spring GN has a nicest pool and is a little more upscale place to hang out downtown. The El Cortez was mentioned as well, but that place has lost its Old Vegas charm. Frankly its a longer walk and I think the rooms are a little more shabby unless your in the suites across the street.

Mine was in the tower, seventh floor. If I'm ever so inclined to go back there, I might try the Cabana Suites, but really was not impressed with the tower.

I'd say D would be the best bet for a group of guys in their 20s that are hanging one on for a few days.

I largely agree that the D is probably the best choice for the OP. But I would like to point out that EC is right in the middle of the festival, and the Plaza, though it is my new favorite, is on the other end of Fremont.

You're probably looking at seriously high room rates anywhere downtown. Book early, Tower rooms at ElCo are already over $160 per night....

Think we're gonna go with the D given what were down there for, seems to be a lively casino and close proximity to the festival, appreciate all the input !
