Downtown Solo Dining

What are some good and afford able options for a solo trip downtown? I'm not looking for a hamburger or fast food, but I don't want to spend $40 for just a steak either.

 

Le Thai, which is opposite El Cortez. Good restaurant, and very reasonably priced.

California has a 3 course steak dinner for about $25, iirc, and a friend of mine says it's good.

I know there are probably a ton of them, but those are the only 2 I can think of.

 

Regular solo diner here. Absolute best, in my opinion is the Market Street Cafe in the California. Open 24 hours, has a full menu at all times, table service staff, salad bar option to get your veggies in, and there's bar seating at the front of the restaurant which is perfect for solo diners. I've never spent more than $15 there (I'm usually dining on a $10 food comp, and usually only have to add $1 or $2). The prime rib there is legendary among Fremont Street regulars (I've had it about half a dozen times and most definitely can attest to that). It's $9.99, including dessert. Needless to say, I highly recommend it.

Other than that, Hennessey's Tavern further east down Fremont is also really good. I've mostly gone there for breakfast and have never spent more than $20. Hash House a Go Go inside the Plaza is also nice - though it doesn't compare to the one in the Linq.

Also, if bar bites are your thing, there are half priced appetizers in the bar area of Oscars (upstairs in the Plaza) from 3-6 the last time I was there. Very friendly bartenders, you'll have no trouble going solo in there.

I think this offers a pretty good scope of dining options for a one-man-show. But Market Street Cafe takes spots 1, 2, and 3 in my opinion. It's that good.

 

I second the prime rib dinner at the Market St. Café at the Cal. for $9.99 you get an all you can eat salad bar, prime rib dinner with veggies and a cherries jubilee dessert.

If you are looking for something quick but not really "fast food" then visit the California club restaurant at the Cal. Located near the doorway that faces binions. Unfortunately they may be closed for remodeling shortly but before that you could get plate lunches like hamburger steak, teriyaki beef, fried noodles, chicken katsu, chicken wings, "bento" plates and others. Most of the plates are around $7 or under. I sure hope that they reopen that place as it was a favorite with many of us. I even sent the cal an email telling them that I hope the place reopens after remodeling.

Fremont also has a snack bar with some good eats. Binions has a restaurant (benny's?) that has decent food at reasonable prices.

There are lots of good options. I would throw 777 at main street in the mix with the others mentioned above. They have a menu that can appeal to a large variety of appetites and I've never had a bad meal there. The prices downtown will be reasonable at all of the normal eateries. You can approach the $40 level at Hugo's and Andiamo. Both are very good but I probably wouldn't do them solo. The solo options that always work are buffets. Main Street has a good basic buffet. Fremont's is OK and I don't care for the buffet at the Golden Nugget. Speaking of Fremont, if you walk in the buffet entrance and stay to the right, they will seat you in the Paradise cafe which is an overlooked option. Good food and a little more relaxing than the Cal coffee shop.

 

The 2nd Street Grill at the Fremont is an under-rated good value steak house option and has a bar to eat at.

I quite like Nacho Daddy for solo dining but might be too casual for the OP's requirements.

 

Travel solo often, and always grab a solid meal at Dupar's @ Golden Gate. Can always get a single seat at the counter, and enjoy watching them prep the food.

 

I second DuPar's and the 777 at Main Street. Would also add the D Grill at the D. Consistently good food at reasonable prices. There are a number of pretty good new eateries on East Fremont with Le Thai being my favorite for great (of course) Thai food.

Had a decent meal there a couple years back, and would say the only downside was that it was a little dark inside.

 

Chicago Brewing Company upstairs at the 4 Queens has half priced apps from 3 to 6 pm. They are very good and if you sit at the bar, the bartenders are great.

 

Dupar's at the Golden Gate for breakfast---try the pancakes; they are comparable to the size of an old Buick hubcap.

Market Street Cafe at the California, be seated at a table or grab a seat at their counter for quick service. Good graveyard specials..try the oxtail soup-great remedy for hangovers. Their prime rib special is a solid bargain.

Redwood Room at the California----unadvertised porterhouse steak special: soup or salad, steak, with choice of rice pilaf or potato, veggies and apple dumpling with ice cream for dessert.... $24.95. Not on menu, you have to request it.

Cafe at the D---upstairs, good service, decent food.

Binions cafe----try their sandwich and bean soup combo for lunch

Magnolia's at 4 Queens: They have specials for player card holders. Food is usually good, but service can be sub par at times.

I've traveled solo to Vegas many times and have dined at all of the above places and will again.

 

Hi, the Grill at the D is excellent value & quality. We also like the Chicago Cigar bar, you can gamble, watch sports or simply watch the 4Q casino I agree the 777 in MSS is also good.
I have to disagree about Dupars the staff there are the most arrogant bunch & the service sucks big time. Last visit my beer arrived 10 minutes after we had finished eating & we had to repeatedly ask for the check.
