The renovated rooms are decent, casino is so-so, a bit on the quiet side. And you really need a car if you don't intend to play at Strat itself most of the time.

I think its a nice place to hang out and even stay as long as you understand you will be a bit away from the action of the actual "strip". I think the disappointment usually comes from folks realizing that are a cab ride away from all the action.

Im from Scotland, visiting Las Vegas in May for the 8th year in a row and staying for the 8th time at the Stratosphere!

Make sure its a 'select' room, they are the remodelled rooms, really comfortable and all you need. Its quiet and well away from the hustle and bustle of the main action, its nice to get some peace and quiet at the end of the day! I prefer to play the tables there too.

We always have a car so its easy to get about but if you are using public transport the Deuce or strip express pick up and drop off close to the hotel.

For us, its a comfortable and cheap place to stay, and it means I can visit every year!

I am just a video poker guy, so can't help there. You are close to downtown and SLS as well so you will have all kinds of options. I think STRAT still has a bit of the vegas cool vibe that is about gone on the strip. I would give her a stay if I spend more time downtown and wanted something in the middle.

My Nephew plays there in the daily tournaments and likes it.

I think the Stratosphere is located strategically - it's halfway between Downtown and the South Strip. And, The Deuce, which runs every 15 minutes stops there. Get on it for the short 1.5 mile trip in either direction.

The Stratosphere has good restaurants for the value. Everything from an entry-level café (Roxy's Diner) to high-end steakhouses (McCall's and Top of The World). I particularly like the moderately-priced Italian restaurant - Fellini's. The house wine is served in carafes and the service is top notch. Hit the C-Bar and 2 for 1 cocktails 6-10 p.m.

I played there for maybe 15 minutes on a VP machine, ran $20 through it and they keep sending me offers for free room and food. Casino was a bit smokey and the characters there were sketchy at times, over all the casino was okay.

+1, I played VP at the bar in the middle of the floor and I have received several offers. They offered some kind of new member free play, maybe $20 or so. The 107 Lounge has a good Happy Hour with two-for-one drinks, but you have to get them both at the same time. I walked up from Circus Circus and although it's not a far walk, I don't think I would do it at night. I don't know if I would stay there for 10 nights, but yes to a coule of nights.

To the OP, where have you stayed during your previous visits?

You'll be there right in the middle of college spring break season and just before the NCAA basketball tournament. College basketball here in the states is a big deal, especially in March. I'd also travel down to the main party areas of the strip to see some hot college girls. Should be a fun time for you.

I stayed there and had a great time. The bounce back offers I got sucked but the resort and casino was better than I expected. Plenty of things to do in house, the casino seemed fair as far as slots go, and I wasn't all that put off with the location. You DO NOT need a car if you are staying here! Don't let people scare you away due to the location. Just walk out the front door and cross over to SLS. Its a block away and a cute little resort to visit anyway. Hop on the monorail and fly to pretty much any other spot on the strip you want to explore! For $50 you can get a 7 day pass with unlimited rides over a 168 hour stretch! Far cheaper than taking a cap a few times

You can get a buss pass for $20 and that will get you 3 days worth of rides. The bus stop is right out front of The STRAT . Riding up top on the Deuce is actually fun. So is the monorail honestly. And the best thing about the bus pass is that you can go both down the strip, or head over to Fremont Street. The monorail is just for the strip.

Like many others I thought I would hate being so isolated. But in realty it takes me about 30 mins to walk from the Mirage to Bellagio when I stay at the center strip. Winding in and out of the pathways and through other casinos (CP) on the way over. I can go from the Strat to Bellagio on the bus in the same 30 mins most of the time and my feet thank me for it!

A quick review with some pics of my last trip there are on my blog below. For the price its a good deal!

I stayed there a couple of years ago and found it great for the price I had paid, Bill has pretty much summed it up with the fact your halfway between Downtown and South Strip and the Deuce is frequent. I played VP at the bar there and found it good and they are quite free flowing with the drink, weird thing was I stopped there the week and never once went up the tower.
