Was just wondering if anybody living in the Ft. Myers area had ever chartered a private jet to fly to Vegas ~ possibly 8 to 10 people. Since their aren't any direct flights from here ~ a couple of weeks ago we flew to Detroit then to LV which made for a long day ~ we were looking for an easier way to get there without having to drive 2 hours to Miami or Tampa. If any of you have done that, what are the costs involved? Thanks for any input!

You are probably looking at anywhere from $2000-$7000 per hour. So close to about $15-70K round trip from Florida, I would believe.

If you lived much closes, Orange County, CA, you can do it for about $2500

Drive to Orlando for a day and get a nonstop from there? Several motels near the airport with free shuttles to and from and can leave your car there and a quick breakfast on site. We have stayed at LaQuinta several times when we needed to take a real early flight.

My best quotes from a similar distance is 60k for a large jet to hold that many roundtrip.

You can pick up some good deals on dead heads but that's very hit or miss.

Thank you SH0CK, LVfan and shifter for your input. We've been home for a couple of weeks from LV and were just scheming on getting back their.

It is almost a 4 hr. drive to Orlando from Naples. You might as well fly from RSW. Southwest has some flight that "only" take 7.5 hrs. It seems like you can't fly anywhere direct from RSW.

Where there's a will, there is a way.

Frontier has some $49 nonstop flights from Miami In early December.

I find the talk of $49 flights interesting. The OP is looking at spending way more than that via a private jet... like thousands per person. LOL!

I don't think the OP is actually considering it now that he knows the price.

Thanks for everybody's input . You right that the OP has reconsidered the charter idea.

Just out of curiosity, how much did you think a chartered jet would cost?

Years ago...as in over 25 - I looked into this from Houston.
Back then, I was able to find a sort-of 'private' charter... they flew at set times & days but you could reserve the entire plane & they would work with you on the scheduling.
It was an 8-seater for $1500 a seat, RT (which wasn't a whole lot more than 1st class was back then). If you wanted to book the entire flight, it was $10,000 even (if I'm remembering correctly). Smoking was permitted (but only if you booked the entire plane), and cocktails were provided, but were self-serve.
I don't think anyone offers that kind of service anymore... can't remember what that was called, but it was something like 'scheduled semi-private charter'.
When I called them, I asked about how they got around the smoking rules & they told me that if I booked the entire plane, it was classified as a private charter.
Sadly, I could only find 3 other friends who were willing to pay the $1200 & change to do this, so we ended up just flying first class on Continental...(saved money and had a blast!)

I recall that around the same time, either Funjet or Sunjet offered periodic 'smoking charter flights' as well, but those didn't last long... the seats were cheap - all coach-seating - and cocktails were not free... but they sure managed to sell-out their flights.

After all the input I'm thinking just fly from RSW and take the one stop. Thanks everybody. Hopefully one day a carrier will offer a non stop.

Do you have to have hours purchased to be able to take advantage of the dead heads with that company? I've always dreamed of flying private sometime. That Cincy to LAS would be doable with a few friends.

unlikely. most of these emails come from brokers. they don't actually own the jets they just have access to jet lists and broker deals to their customers.

And there is always the possibility of mechanicals, the empty getting filled for higher profit, the owner being a POS, etc.
