Article on how (and how much) to tip in las vegas

Very interesting article on a subject/tipping that has been discussed repeatedly on the VMB. It turns out I've been right in the line with the tipping amount suggestions noted in this article.
I found this point to be spot on:

Yeah I know at my local club the strippers tip out the DJs...

 

I didn't know this either...it's been about 15 years since I've been in a "Gentlemen's Club". I might have to do a little research into this tipping practice on my next trip.

I'll tip 10% of my table games win plus $5 "here and there" when hell freezes over.

 

If I'm giving stripper my money..its got nothing to do with a DJ I'll never see....some woman wrote this article or a guy that's never been to a strip club

 

Sounded very high to me as well, but I don't play table games....gave them up years ago. I like mindless entertainment, slots and some occasional VP.

 

This should've called it the tip guides for posers. Tip everyone in the strip bad night clubs but no mention of housekeeping, bellman or cabbies? WTF!

 

Never heard of tipping the DJ.... article was obviously written by a strip club DJ himself.

 

He said leave $5 for house keeping and $5 min/ $2 per bag for bellman.

He didn't mention taxis.


I have no idea where the DJ comment came from.

 

Who wrote this trash? And more so; what editor agreed to publish this rubbish?!

 

All seemed pretty standard to me... and decent guidance. I particularly note this line at the end of the article:

Apparently, it doesn't jibe with the masses on VMB... this thread or countless others regarding tipping.

 

That last graf, which are the author's words not the OP's, is exemplary of the silliness that pervades the hospitality racket and particularly Vegas, where too many people have bought into the inane marketing campaign that has so many thinking they're somehow stars not pharmacy clerks from Des Moines when doing Vegas the convention bureau way.

For us, the people who get "overtipped" are those with whom we have a relationship back home -- our aesthetician, hair guy, the pourer at the winery, our cabbie, etc. Twenty percent on a plate of slop slapped down on the table at the casino coffee shop does not validate one's life or existence.

 

Here - for free - is the official 'Topcard Tip Guide'.

1. Cabbies - roughly 10% of the meter, assuming he/she didn't attempt to long-haul you.
2. Limo driver - $10
3. Shuttle driver - $2
4. Bellman for just holding a bag - $2/bag. If brought to your room, $5.
5. Cocktail waitress - $1/per item delivered.
6. Housekeeping - $5 after the first night & $2 for each subsequent night.
7. Bartender when getting comped drinks - $1 for bottled beer or shots; $2 for anything he has to mix.
8. Strip clubs, night-clubs & day-clubs - N/A. Buskers & other 'street people' - N/A.
9. Food server (including room service) - 20%+ of the ticket total, if paying. If comped, then 30% of the amount billed or $5, whichever is higher.
10. Cage cashier - $1 or $2 if the cash-out ends up providing you any $1s.
11. 'Free' room-upgrade - $20
12. Blackjack & other table-game card dealers - $10 an hour, or $10 bet for them per hour.
13. Crap dealers - about $10/hour in hard-way bets.
(almost forgot) -
14. Valet... $5 when picking up.
15. Doorman getting your cab-door open - $1 (if you have it handy...otherwise, zero).

See? I can do that too! I just don't get paid for it...

 

Learned something last trip that I never knew, the bartenders pool their tips. I have come up with system to bypass this
