Anyone got a cheap liquor/grocery "secret"? Next trip i'm not renting a car (i usually stop at Von's), so i'm looking for alternatives. I see a Smart and Final very close to Fremont.. but not super close.

Would you be able to get to the old pool table room by going to the second floor on the guest elevators. I never got off at second, but I have seen employees do so. When the door opens it does not appear to be a floor with rooms.
So what is on the second floor at MSS if using the guest elevators?

I think you have to use that specific elevator and it only goes to the pool table floor. If you are in the casino and look up, you can see an open level above with a railing around. That is where the pool tables are.

Can I snag that picture and post it in this thread?

I found that elevator on a trip years ago on accident. I was trying to find my room. :haha:

Like other restaurants you need to go before the lines get long. Either that or just eat at the counter, I seldom have to wait for a seat on the counter but I usually try to avoid the crowds by going early.

No, the guest elevators are in the back, past the front desk. The pool table room uses a different elevator and only goes up to that area. There is a 2nd floor accessible by using the regular guest elevators but you can't get to the pool room that way. Not sure what is on the 2nd floor accessible by the regular guest elevators since I never stopped off on that floor.

I usually just go to ABC stores on the FSE for my stuff. I think walgreens (by neonopolis) also sells alcohol.

No booze at Walgreens, reasonable prices at ABC and the Cal gift shop near the bridge to MSS.

I think the gift shops at all the DT Boyd properties have decent alcohol prices.

I often wondered why the lines were so long and then it occurred to me that there are two groups of people in line; The locals and tourists then local hawaiians who tend to keep there "hawaii" time so when most coffee shops are slowing down at 10:30 at night to hawaiians it's 7:30 and time to eat

Two great Groupons available now. One is for The Market (the small grocery store Orphan refers to above), the other is for the Vanguard Lounge (East Fremont, near Insert Coin). Groupon for the next couple of days has "get an extra 20% off using code Scream3." Doing that, you get $20 of stuff from The Market for $11.20 and $40 of drinks at the Vanguard Lounge for $16.80.

Sorry, I don't buy booze so not sure if walgreens sells booze. I do know that ABC does sell them, I usually pick up some bottled water or a soda and I see booze.

Actually the lines are long on some nights because the Vacations Hawaii charters arrive in the evening. Guests won't see their luggage for a few hours (they normally say it will take 2 hours to unload and sort out the luggage to deliver to the boyd hotels, then get the porters to drop off the bags to each room) so to kill time they go eat something. While the plane does serve a meal it isn't a heavy meal so many want to eat something substantial after they arrive to acclimate themselves to vegas.

Many of us actually eat early to avoid the dinner crowds, esp when they have something special like the seafood buffets. Usually I will get to the buffet by 5 pm so I won't have to wait very long in line. But then that crowd may also want a night time snack and will go to the diners to eat at 10 or 11 pm.

I do try to keep myself on Hawaii time, going to bed around 3 am (only a 2 or 3 hour time difference between Hawaii and vegas) but I don't keep my meals on Hawaii time. I usually try to get up early for breakfast (around 8 am) so I have the whole day to do stuff.
