Table Games Blackjack player mad at me for doubling on A-7 vs low cards (3-6)

there are plenty of people who wont hit a 12 agianst a dealer 2 , they just dont understand that there more likely to make hand but there scared they will bust.

 

It's really pitiful when players who don't even know or try to learn basic strategy criticize those of us who do. I don't seem to be able to remember all the right splits and double downs, so I simply lay down my basic strategy card on the table and refer to it when necessary.
When criticized for making the right play, I politely explain that I'm playing for a lifetime and not this one session. I have come to the conclusion that you can't change stupid people. Once, I listened to a woman complain about my play several times and she was not even playing.
I asked her why and she said she already lost her bankroll and was just watching! HA!

 

There are times when I stand... playing double-deck & see 5, 6 or 7 consecutive cards come out without a ten? Yeah - I stand on my 12... but as a general rule, I'll hit it against a 2...(and against the 3 on any negative count.)

 

You were completely at fault for sitting at a table with some jerks. I usually remind them a few hands later when they get a black jack or a winning hand that I set the deck up for them for the win

 

I quite often get flack from other players when making some of these plays (Doubling on A-7 against Dealer 3-6, hitting a 12 against a dealer 2 or 3, splitting 4s against a dealer 5 when DAS is allowed, etc.), both in Vegas and at my local casino. I just shrug my shoulders and ignore them. You can bet that their attitude changes a bit when those choices pay off.

 

I can only imagine what they'd do if it were a h17 game where dealer has a 6 and you double your soft 19.

 

I'm sure it would be quite the conniption and way worse than their shock from doubling soft 18 v 2-6.

I will never complain unless it's truly bizarre like the one time the guy stood on 11 or the time a guy hit 19. I understand that it's your money and you can do what you want. If I don't like it I will leave the table but I promise I won't say anything rude to you, I may grumble softly to myself

 

This happened to me in AC ages ago. Long story short...dude (who immediately stood up and started screaming at me) was taken away by security! (And I had to kiss a little ass to keep from being cut off.:evillaugh)

 

Doubling soft-19 vs 6 is the one hand I universally catch grief over...dealers, other players...everyone (except pit-critters) seems to be unaware of this proper play.

 

At first glance it may seem over the top to a novice. Gotta push 'em in whenever dealer is weak.

 

Sometimes you just want to just say "hey you front me the money and ill play every hand the way you want"

People calling out your plays and blaming you for their beats are annoying even when they are RIGHT. When they are wrong, grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

 

According to WizardOfOdds, that is only correct on H17 games. And I have to admit, that one doesn't 'feel' correct. If I was out of practice, that is one of the ones I would likely play wrong.

Edit: oops, except at single deck, which is what you play.

Still, the variation between games tells you how close that call is. On double deck S17 even its a stand

 

I was going to say the exact same thing. I told a grumpy player who was hee and hawing over my play / pissing and moaning since he was on a losing streak.
After he gave me shit about doubling a soft 18 against a 16 I told him in no uncertain terms, that if he wants to give me gambling money to play I will defer each hand to his calls, otherwise STFU it none of his business how I play my hands. After that I dropped down to $5 a hand from 25 and did every stupid ass play I could think of to piss him off. Split 10's, doubled on 16, etc. After 7 winning hands (go figure) he left the table.

 

When I'm playing solo I'll periodically double the soft 19 AND 20's ( ! ) on 5's and 6's. This is usually when I've been taking a beating and just wanting to test the greed gods.

I really enjoy (not) pulling the ace to my 20 and then watch the dealer make a 21. If nothing else, taking these chances is a rush - and like I said, only when there's nobody else who will be impacted.

99% of the blackjack I play is double-deck, H17... not sure why you thought I played single deck... and yeah - standing on a S17 game is sort of obvious when you think about it...possibility of no dealer hit.

 

Bingo, +1. I get strage looks from other players and dealers, as well as some colorful comments from time to time. I summarily dismiss and ignore them. It's the correct play and I really don't give a damn what uninformed players and dealers think. I assume you gamble for the fun of it, as do I, and making the correct plays makes playing BJ more fun as I assume it does for you.

I also get the same crap when I play the dark side in craps. It doesn't bother me one bit what other players think about my play. In the end all that really matters is how we, as casino gamblers, feel and execute our play.

OP, you made the correct play. Keep on keeping on and you'll whittle the HA down to a reasonable level.
