I just got an email back from Cal management. The jack hammering was a one day event. He wouldn't answer what the project is.

The Players Club move to the Main Street Bar location and then construction of a new bar in that location will not begin until the "first quarter of 2016, at the earliest".

When is this jack hammering going to occur? I'm staying at the Cal at the end of the month so hope I don't have to hear that during my stay.

It already occurred. It apparently was so loud that according to another poster, they closed the Cal crap tables and moved the entire crew to MSS and opened another table.

thanks. here's hoping that I won't encounter that when I get there in 3 weeks.

Thanks for the warning though, good to know that there may be some work being done at the Cal. Wonder what they are doing and why they need to jack hammer. I also thought they remodeled a few years ago (probably close to 5 to 7) so not sure if they would remodel rooms, maybe they are remodeling places like the ohana room or something.

I was at the cal a little over a week ago and they had closed off the slot machines next to the players club. If they are doing jack hammering then they are installing plumbing so it sounds like either a bar or food place of some kind.

They started jackhammering Tuesday morning on August 4th. From what I could observe they closed off a small section about 10X15' with tarps and started going at it. The craps crew that were sent over to MSS because of too much noise said they had no clue as to what they were doing in the area.

From my experience in construction it seems they were installing electrical conduit and data for either kiosks, new machines, or a pit boss info center. But it's just my guess.

Just to give people staying at the Cal a heads up on remodeling. They are remodeling the casino floor. Basically they are changing the ceiling tiles to a nicer looking ceiling (a la strip types). The Cal had the standard ceiling tiles (that you see in many office buildings) so those are going away. The walls near the step down to the crap tables have also been remodeled. Originally they had more of a red brick motif but now has a newer sleeker look to match the new ceiling. I think the remodel is being done to match the look that you see at the casino cage.

I was there at the end of August/first week of September. When I arrived they blocked off the whole area by the step down to the crap tables to the step down by the Cal Lanai (side closest to the LVC). You had to go back to the front desk area if you want to get to the crap table and keno area (and bar).

While I was there they completed remodeling of that area and brought back the 4 or so bj tables and the number of machines in that area. They then proceeded to block off the area by the mega machines, near the player's club booth. I looked into the tarped area and found that they removed all the ceiling tiles and also ripped out the carpets. They also moved all the machines in that area to the side, I assume to work on one part and when completed they will move all the machines and stuff to the other side to work on the other side.

I think they are just going down the whole casino area to remodel so beware that some areas will be blocked off until the complete the remodeling. Since they are basically doing the ceiling and carpets I think the remodel should only last a month or two or three. I didn't notice any difference with the carpets so they must have bought up a lot of the same carpet type many years ago(?).

I did not see or hear of any other remodel in the hotel. Their cable was out (for a day or two) last month because they were switching out their cable service but they are all working now.

Just an update. I was there this week and the area that was blocked off is done but now the area from the cage to the front desk is now blocked off. If you need to use a ramp to get to the casino you have to go all the way to the wall by the snack bar. The also moved the blazing 7 machines and ATM and voucher redemption machines to the lower casino floor. During the day when work is being done they are using the craps table closest to the keno desk due to noise.

Updating from market street cafe. The area by the cafe is now open and easy access everywhere. The cal is looking gorgeous! Now is a wonderful time to visit. This place is full of aloha as always!

Can you (or anyone) tell me if the four slant-top dollar Treasure Chest machines have been returned to the bottom of the escalator nearest the bar? I missed those terribly last trip.

I saw four $1 Treasure Chest machines in that location today but they were uprights in their own little bank with two on each side. However, who knows where they will be when the remodeling is done. Today the whole area inside the Main St. entrance was curtained off.

    Thanks.

Damn, those were the same ones as in August. I hope they kept the slant-tops. They are among my 39,109 favorite machines in Vegas!

I looked thoroughly at the Cal today for $1 Treasure Chest slant-tops and didn't find any. But there's still hope because the area by the Main St. Bar is closed off so they may be there.

Just returned from Redwood. Main Street bar is still closed off, but I did ask a very helpful team member about the treasure chest slant tops. According to her, they are still there. Never fear!
