I am not one to present a $20 sandwich - I ask directly and try to negotiate a deal. After seeing the photos of the Sky Villas at Palms Casino Resort, I was ready to aim high.

So my strategy was to ask for a two-story sky-villa and would be willing to settle for a poolside villa at the very least. With my hotwire.com reservation in hand, I approached a lovely female at the reception desk, and commenced hardball negotiations.

As it turns out, she was not willing to risk losing her job at the Palms just to give me a villa. But I ended up in a nice room, with a view of the strip, right next to a sky villa in the Fantasy Tower, with no exchange of $20. Respect.

I think Ludacris was in the villa one floor below, since a few times I smelled the faint odor of medical weed.

BTW, I saw some well known, and well funded, pro poker players at the Ultimate Texas Hold'em table at the Palms. A fun bunch of guys to play with.

    Cheers,

    Cosmo

    Worked for me!

Wed night, 20 on the counter - Ended up with the Ivory suite, list rate of $485 per night. Suite was so nice we decided to stay for another night and they gave it to us for $100 based on our play.

Initially had backed an Ivory room for $65 on sale.

    0 for 2

I arrived on a Friday with a last-minute reservation for a fantasy tower room for three nights, $85 Fri, Sat, and Comp Sun. I offered the desk clerk a nice tip ($40) for a suite in the Fantasy Tower, but all she could offer me was a Palms Place Junior Suite (not what I was interested in - I can get a Palms Place room for a better rate than Palms). So I pulled back the offer and ended up with a regular Ivory Tower room.

    0/2?

Isn't the Ivory towet an upgrade from the Fantasy you had booked? I know its not a suite but a better room all the same.

I'm not a fan of the Ivory Tower rooms, which is why I was gunning for a Fantasy Tower suite.

My parents are there now, they booked the $39 travelzoo deal, it was already the new upgraded rooms, but he did tip $10 and he said the lady was eager to find something nice for him. He got a corner (looks like it has more windows) and a strip view. Not too bad, can't beat the price! They said the rooms are really nice.

While not that special, they were very happy, even with the tiny upgrade.

Successful at Palms Place. Booked studio suite handed over sandwhich asked for bigger tub and best strip view possible. Got upgraded to a wrap around balcony suite couple floors from penthouse floors. 50th to be exact. Too bad balconies were locked :(

Pretty much the same, but with only $20. The hotel person said they don't do this every time, but checked to see what he could do. Had to ask for the spa passes, and the guy was so cool to let us have it. Such a fun room with the fireplace, washer/dryer, the shower, the bathtub, and the panoramic strip view where you can see from downtown almost all the way to the south point.

very likely since it is midweek. be very specific on what you're looking for but not before making small talk (how as your day, etc etc). $20 sandwhich got me upgraded from a studio suite at palms place to a wrap around balcony suite 3 levels from penthouse floors.

Palms and Palms place are very generous with their weekday upgrades. I enjoy both places, if I had to pick one I'd stay at PP but you can't go wrong either way.

Agreed. After the wife and I were married (we had our reception at Nove) we moved over the PP. Loved it. Only knock was the walk BACK to palms if we wanted to gamble. The pool was way more chill than the Palms pool. We spent $150 for a cabana, then ordered two bottles of booze and the manager gave us a second cabana (we had a decent size group there) and really took care of us. However, this was before the N9NE group took things over. Not sure how things are price wise now, since we haven't stayed there since. Our hostess moved and we weren't happy with all the changes. Still pissed that Gardunos is gone. Sunday Margarita brunch was always a hit and some stories always came from that...

If you are for sure staying at Palms Place, the one bedroom for sure! Strip view second, high floor last.
As mentioned, just make some good small talk first. They should be interested that you are from the Netherlands. Say how excited you are to be here in the States, and especially in Vegas. After you've given them the $20 between your passport and credit card, ask if there is anything they can do to make your time in Vegas memorable. If they ask, What do you have in mind?', that's when to ask for the 1 bedroom.

Had a comped run of the house room Fantasy Tower for Tues-Sunday over 4th of July. $50 dollar sandwich netted us 37th floor Studio Suite w/ a strip view at Palms Place.
