A Couple of Frugal thoughts on Four Queens and the D

That Life is Beautiful sure dealt me a bum hand for September. The best I can get for the Four Queens for four nights is casino rate. The mailer for buy one get one cannot apply even to the Monday night.
I still do okay. I go in with $40 in comp $ and $40 freeplay so in a sense I have a good portion of it covered, but it just irks me. And I don't blame the host, Linae, whom I recommend. She is just following the stiffer guidelines.
For my September days it is still the most convenient because I want to be near the WAX for my last night before the airport.

However, I booked Nov 6-7-8-9 at casino rate as well. Linae will automatically apply the November mailing if I get one. So that is nice. My play in September may well build enough comp $ to reduce expenses and the freeplay will reduce them.
However, for that same rate I can book that Air B and B I am trying in September, just to see.

Then I would not feel that pressure to gamble, but just go along and drop a few dollars where I please.

Then too I always liked putting the D 2 for 1 next to the Four Queens, but that is not as cheap as it once was either and the nice full pay nickel Deuces is gone. No more coin droppers on the second floor. And there too I hit the damned Life is Beautiful upcharges, paid more for my 2 for 1 and more again because the resort fee kicks in as well for the paid night.

Since I don't have the bankroll to gamble as long as I have to stay in Vegas ( and get full value from the air) I'm now comparing my old habits with my new finds. After all, if I stay 6 nights at the B and B with no gambling requirements and that equals 6 nights downtown, I may not have the WAX, but I have the 109 to find the airport.

Okay, just thinking out loud because I'm confused again. But then that is the frugal game in Vegas, right? Everything changes.

Have you tried seeding the DTG, their pretty easy to get a couple free week nights, a little free play and food. Plus free morning coffee and a nice pool.

They blackout a lot of dates on comp offers. In my experience if there is anything going on downtown that raises room rates, they don't honor their marketing room comp offers. ymmv

What they do is only allow so many Comp rooms per night, Dewey books early enough that it shouldn't be a problem.

I hear ya I see the reduced offers all over town. My Gold Coast offers are pathetic compared to even a year ago.

I think downtown's new found popularity has especially changed the dynamics for low rollers (like me).

Love your posts I always get some ideas from them.

This is certainly on my list of possibles, as is the Plaza, especially if they get customer friendly and drop early check in fees, improve the pool, etc. But that is my old frugal plan.

But I'm thinking even more radically lately. My bankroll is strapped. I'm easily pleased in Vegas with just live poker and those cheap Plaza tournaments and freebies. If rooms that require no gambling are going to be the same as rooms that require serious play, why bother?
And, rather than comp 2 nights hop 2 nights hop, if I like this Air B and B, I can book 6 in a row or more. No hopping. Use of laundry, Kitchen. I might just patch those together with MyVegas free nights and gamble nickels slowly out Boulder at Skyline listening to the Dumkopf's .
Maybe I'd plug in the Orleans for a couple nights with senior benefit Wednesday being one.

I keep the Gold Coast as my paid treat. Heated pool. Cheap food. Great location for a bus guy. Many, many bus opportunities.
My kid turning 40 is paying for a few nights at Bellagio what I am paying with my wife at the Gold Coast for a full week. (to meet up with him and a huge crew of family and friends, most of them staying at Bellagio as well. I think the kid negotiated some kind of large group deal)
Now, part of that is that the Gold Coast did send me an offer. I don't know why. It was just casino rate, but that cut B Connected by $150 on the weekend.
I play enough for the ACG free buffet. That's it. This next trip I might drop $20 here and there on occasion, but I'm not seriously seeding, not focusing my gambling dollar on a limited time, not pushing.
I seed at the Orleans, but only triple play nickel VP. 75 cents a spin for 9/7 DB with progressive royals. On senior Wednesday that means two free buffets, a cheap movie, some cash drawings, a good multiplier (last time I caught the swipe for 15X points) and I really do love those games.

Hey, thanks for all the thoughts. Very much appreciated.

Tried to double book at 4Q for my brother on Oct 17 & 18. "Oh, we have a tournament that weekend and your offer isn't valid. I can get you casino rate for $58"
It was for 3 nights free and $80 in freeplay.

Did you not get a Plaza match offer? Ask Curt if he'll float you one.

I had a Golden Gate offer The Plaza matched: 3 nights food and free play for Sept 25-26-27.

I called for my usual 2for1 or 2 nights free at the 4 Queens this week for the first two nights of my trip on Sep.20-25 and they said it wasn't available on Sunday because of a slot tournament....that is the first time this has happened to me there. I do have my ending three days like usual at MSS. Now I will have to hope I will get a mailing fromThe DTG that I have been get every few months or maybe from the Plaza where I stayed for 2 nights in Feb. by averaging 200 points a day.
Has anyone got their offers in the mail for DTG for Sep & Oct yet?

Does DTG note the blackout dates on the offer? I've gotten an offer for a premium room with no restriction on nights. As soon as my offer extends to October I'll be on the phone with them

I"d call them and keep asking if the offer has been extended yet. I know nothing about the DTG, but in other places I manage to get booked on offers long before they actually arrive in the mail because the clerks learn of them as they are mailed out. If there is, as suggested, a quota, calling early is the key rather than waiting.

I forgot about this...when it also happened to me in February at 4Q and I couldn't book because of a tournament, two weeks later I received an invite to the tournament. All was then good for the 3 free nights.

Abescan DTG is notorious for untimely mailings. Not unusual to get offers the first week of the month it is good for.

Yeah I was told the same thing for that weekend in October, but I am looking forward to getting the tournament invite in the next few weeks. I have gotten dozens of tourney invites over the years for the 4Q but up to now I have never had a chance to attend one, as I have to plan vacations 6 months in advance. This time it just lined up properly. I did have the host block those dates out for me on casino rate for now, and she asked me to give her a call as soon as the tourney invite comes in to apply that to the reservation.

Joe.....Thanks I did make a two night reservation for DTG and plan on switching when or if I get the offer otherwise I'll cancel it and just pay the extra $30 a night at MSS if I have to ante up for the two extra nights.
Just wondering when the Sept.offers are known if I call.

Hi Dewey, What do you mean by air B &B. I am in August 23 staying 1nt. at Mirage via My Vegas, 2 comp nts. at Gold Coast, then 202 down to Sam's Town for 2 comp nts. then shuttle to DT for 3 comp. nts at 4 Queens and 3 comp nts. at the Plaza. By the way I have not have comp nts. consistent with my play at the DT Grand. Does Sam's still have that comp in Sept?

My offers didn't have any specific blackout dates listed. They said they didn't have rooms for those nights although I could book them if I wanted to pay for them. They also wouldn't give any partial comps upfront (I offered to pay the difference).

They just seem unorganized every time I've dealt with them. When I booked my parents their rooms for my wedding, it took 3-4 calls before I was emailed a confirmation. Their casino is OK but not worth the hassle of dealing with their personnel.
