Right now we are booked in a Go King Strip View at Flamingo for Sat-Thurs. I just checked the Linq and can get a Lux King with a View for a little cheaper. I hear so much bad stuff about the Flamingo, but I love the history. If you had a choice between the 2, which would you choose and why?

If it were me, the Linq. Newer rooms and a new pool area as well. It may not be a nice as the Flamingo pool but you won't have to deal with the huge crowd & the idiots. Flamingo is just down right old, dingy & lame.

I had to make a similar choice and chose Flamingo.

I've never stayed at the Linq, and I know it's newer (rooms are also smaller, and the pool looks pretty small too).

Yes the rooms at the Flmaingo are older, but if ou've never stayed in a Go Room, they are actually quite nice (check Youtube and google images).

If you want a better pool - choose Flamingo

If you want a vertually new room - choose Linq

They are right beside each other, other amenities such as restaurants etc can easily be accessed from either.

I think if you are a Linq guest, you can use the flamingo pool anyway? Can someone confirm that?

I'd love some reviews (especially midsummer and midwinter) on the AC/heating units in the Linq rooms

The one really annoying thing (other than room size) with them just prettying up the existing towers is they still need these.

But I don't know if they at least replaced the units with better ones with proper thermostats. This would be a prerequisite to giving the property another shot. I spent one night in a December in the old IP, and their old heater with an 80's car style hot/cold dial meant spending half the night freezing and the other half boiling.

Does that give you access to the Go Pool too, or just the kids pool?

Annnnnnd, do you have to have ppl under 21 with you to go over to the flamingo?

A big +1 on this post right here. I remember reading that even after the remodel, they still have the wall units rather than central AC. How well do they work, particularly during the seasons with extreme temps?

Probably depends on the room you get (some probably occasionally bust and you have to move), but I've never had issues with IP/Quad/Linq's AC units the 6 times I've stayed there. And did stay there in late June once. And I think they have been replaced with the remodel anyway.

Worst non central AC unit we dealt with was Luxor in Vegas in April, if it would have been 100F that day, we would've been in trouble.

This is a good question, I'd like to hear the response also.

I know for me that I wouldn't chance it either way. The pool is too big of our day to have accidentally bad advice.

The Go rooms are nice and you will have a view as long as the overlay - was Donny and Marie when we were there - doesn't go over your window. The gardens and pool area at the Flamingo are amazing. We have also stayed at the Linq in Feb. The rooms are the same size, but totally remodeled. We aren't room snobs, so the new furnishings and décor were fine for us. They have new elevators and all the halls and floors have been remodeled. Depending on what you are looking for, either should be okay.

Guess it depends on what you look for in a room:

    Pool: Flamingo
    Nicer rooms: Linq
Amenities: Flamingo has the gardens, Linq has...the Linq

You mentioned the "history" of the Flamingo. Just keep in mind, there is nothing there that is original; the towers date back to the 70's when it was the Hilton Flamingo. The only thing you'll find regarding it's history are a couple of plaques on the sidewalk. In my mind, the only thing "historic" is the name. Flamingo was the first hotel I stayed at, both because of the pool and the history in the name. Then I stayed there last year (trip #15), and realized it wasn't all that great, even with the $20 tip getting me one of the nicer rooms.

If it was me, I'd choose Linq (couldn't you tell?). The Flamingo is pretty much the bottom tier of CET properties now that the IP is no more. The casino at Linq is nice and new, and doesn't pump in a strong fragrance to cover the smell of smoke and decay. The "Flaming O" needs a Linq-level refurbishing to get back to what it used to be.

Just got back from a three night stay at the Linq. Overall, I was pleased with our entire stay. We had a Luxury King Room - 19th floor, corner room. It was clean, quiet (ie away from the Carnival Court) and comfortable. It's pretty amazing what CET did with the property. I'll be interested to see if it holds up in two or three years. The check in was pretty seamless - took about 5 minutes waiting in line. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom finishes were nice. Our room had a refrigerator and a few seating areas. The A/C kept the room at a nice 68 degrees even when it was 115 outside - we had a wall mounted thermostat with all the various settings to control the window unit; It's a great location and a quick walk/cab to pretty much anywhere on the strip.

My only knocks on the room itself was the A/C unit was a little noisy - but a slight nudge and it quieted down;the bathroom door is on a slider, not hinges, so it doesn't close and latch; the elevators are S-L-O-W, but utilizing the rear bank of elevators helps a ton; and it would have been better to just finish the closet area - as it is, there is a basically a shower curtain set up instead of a door.

We reserved a day bed at the Linq pool. It's a cool vibe. My only real knocks were that the pool is very small for the size of the property and the wait service was pretty spotty. However, the atmosphere was pretty fun. It was a good mix of people and we had a nice time. Never been to the Flamingo pool, but wouldn't hesitate to recommended the Linq pool.

I was quoted $250-$400 for a cabana and $75 for a day bed at the Linq pool.

The cabana price fluctuated based on the day of the week and if you wanted bottle service or just beer.

We went with a day bed. Came with beers, umbrella, safe, etc.

$75, not too bad. How many beers were included? A standard bucket of 5?

GO Room is nicer than LINQ (bigger, and redone just as nice as LINQ). Bathroom is only big enough for one at a time.
Flamingo pool is nicer but will be much more crowded.

    5. There is also tax and gratuities added, so I think our final cost was around $100.

I had one of the basic rooms last weekend with the outside a/c. I turned the thermo to 69 and it kept the room plenty cool but basically did not quit running the entire weekend. It didn't bother me on a guy/solo trip but like I said if I take the Mrs. and stay there we will at least upgrade the room.
