Just thought I'd share something that recently happened to me in Vegas to serve as a reminder to keep your eyes on your fries.

I was in the HL room and got a HP on a machine...myself and the wife were having a few drinks as per normal...after they casino paid out the HP we moved two machine over. We had left almost 200 on the other machine wAiting for it to "cool down".

We ordered some more drinks, and they next thing you know, some dude slithered into the HL room and printed off out ticket and immediately left the room. It happened so fast we had basically no idea what was even going on. We alerted the slot host in the HL room and they immediately called security, but the time they got the bar code off the ticket, and tried to cancel it, it had already been cashed out.

The casino could do nothing for me, they said perhaps I should contact my host and see if there is something that they can do for me.

Left this serve as a reminder, regardless of how "safe" you feel with your money and cash, always keep an eye on your $$, high limit room or elsewhere...

It could have been a lot worse I guess, cause I usually play with a wad of hundo's laid on the machine when I'm playing a slot or VP session.

I guess I did learn something this trip, don't let a machine sit alone with $$ on it...

Sucks on the theft but congrats on the hand pay. I am sure it probably made you feel violated when it happened but fortunately you or your wife didn't have an encounter with the person. Was this at Wynn? Just curious.

That's crappy. When I had a handpay at Harrah's, I was lucky because the slot attendant had hung around for a bit and noticed that I still had about $150 credit on the machine after I was paid out. I just assumed they'd pay out the full amount. Not the same as your case but I almost wondered off and left that on the machine.

I usually leave my machine, while waiting to get paid. I will go play another machine, or sit near the machine and watch over it. This weekend at Mirage, I hit a Handpay on the main floor, I got up and sat at a bank adjacent to the machine. Some dude walks up, looks at the flashing light, looks at the screen, sees the message, looks around, and then plops his ass on the seat. Once I saw him about to try to feed money into the machine, I got up and and told him he can't feed money into it. He gets defensive and says why not? Lol...I say it is waiting to get paid. He kind of shrugs his shoulders as if he didn't care. I had to tell him again, only this time I told him the machine literally will not accept his money. He finally got the picture that I was the one getting paid. Similar instances happen at the local casinos too. I will get up and move to where I can see the machine and I will see people walk up and keep tapping the cash out button, as if it will print a Tito for them while it is locked up...lol.

In your case, where it is u locked after the Handpay, yes, you have to be very aware and don't trust anyone. I think Plee left a good amount of money on a machine once.

I only had 169 left on it....but 169 is better in my pocket (or tips for hard working ground level employees) than some punk ass thief's pocket!

It disheartens me to know that there are people in the casinos whose sole purpose is to do what they did to you.

You just can't trust anybody nowadays. These thieves are everywhere, like rubbish in a landfill....

Remember the days when they would steal your buckets of quarters? When I first started playing I just kept filling cups once at a casino in AC. I had three or four cups, turned to get a couple from the row behind me and mine were gone! Literally, three or four seconds. There were barrirers between the machines in the other side but I still believe someone reached over, I complained to Security and they said they could do nothing. I think this was at the old Clarion. I was out probably $100, maybe more. Good thing I was too poor to play dollars.

Sorry about your loss, I stand by my locked out machine and take a gambling break. Then I cash out. Just in case.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Money in the machine is something I'm always really careful about. Same goes for VP machines; even when sitting at the bar, where the bartenders will cover my machine and put a "reserved" sign on it if I have to run to the restroom or take a phone call, I always take my ticket out any time I'm stepping away, even for a second. Not worth the risk.

I experienced the same situation last May in Paris. I hit a HP on the $1- 5L (betting max) game to the left right as you enter. I left $138 in the machine (enough for 5 more spins if no wins) and went to the machine right across (was a Dbl Dbl) . I left my blazer on the chair, I've done it many times in both Paris and PH (don't hop slot over at Caesars) I never say just stood behind the chair at the second machine, seen a man approach I said "excuse me, that's my machine/money/jacket" he said "Sure" hit cash out and started off! I alerted an attended immediately and the voucher was luckily canceled. I've never thought twice about leaving money in a machine with a chair tipped or with my jacket/blazer on it... Until that experience.

Something similar happened to my wife in Atlantic City. We had taken a bus day trip to AC. As part of the trip package we received $25 FP and a $10 voucher towards food. We got our players cards and hit the slots. My wife was one row of machines behind me, having trouble getting her slot machine to accept the free play. She came over to me to ask for my assistance and didn't realize that she had put $20 on the slot machine. She no sooner came over to me and some Large man sat at her machine and started playing it.
Seeing as we were in the casino a total of 20 minutes, and to avoid an argument/fight and probably get tossed from the Taj Mahal, I told my wife I'd give her the $20. She whined to me that she Really wanted to play THAT machine because it 'called' her. :rolleyes2: She went to another machine and within 15 minutes the Large Ahole left the machine, winning nothing. Karma was strong that day. My wife jumped onto the slot machine that called her and within 30 minutes took almost $400.00 from it. :D Her luck/karma stayed with her for the remainder of the day. Every time we went to a different casino she'd always end up on the + side of her slot play by almost $100. That was the first time we "paid for our trip And came home with $$.

I won't even leave a large amount of money in a machine if I tell the bartender and run to the restroom. I cash out and put $5 back in to hold the machine, cover it with napkins, leave my glasses, etc.

My buddy was tapped for $450 on a restroom run so I won't make the mistake.

I was at Harrah's New Orleans on a trip with my wife playing in 2014.

When Wife and I play VP, we usually cash out the credits after a four of a kind to get a feeling of accomplishment and remind ourselves not to play a win back down to zero right away. Well Wife asked me to turn her tickets back into cash so I left my VP machine with $10 in credits to go to the cashier as Wife directed. When I came back, Wife tells me that when I left a guy she never saw before and was not playing until then swooped in and tried to play my machine. Since we were the only ones playing on row of 5 identical machines, Wife was convinced that the guy did so only to grab my credits. Wife tells me that he even smiled at Wife as he was sitting down before Wife provided “guidance” to get the hell away from her husband’s machine with our money in it! By the time I came back the guy was long gone. Since then I keep my head on a swivel as there are often some crooks around.

A Royal Flush I did not Recognize and a Good Samaritan

Not all situations have strangers tried to take advantage of me.

A last year on a Saturday morning I was at Ceasars Palace in Las Vegas.

I was then playing 9-5 Jacks or Better at a Spin Poker $1 machine for a bit. I was playing all nine lines when I hit a Royal after holding a single Queen of hearts. To tell you the truth I did not see the Royal Flush until the "Jackpot Handpay" flashed on the screen. Even then I had to careful scan the screen to see how I managed to connect all the top hearts to make the Royal. I hope I correctly attached the two images below. View attachment 17440 View attachment 17441
I was handed the cash and I was so dazed by the Royal that I decided to pull my players card and walk away from the machine and leave the Royal image on the screen. As I stood up to walk away, the guy playing to my left (and whom I had previously had a friendly chat with) said "Hey, you forgot that you have credits on the machine!"

I then doubled back and saw that I forgot that I had $700 or so in credits before I hit the Royal. I was well on the way to leaving it in the abandoned machine! Well that guy was a good Samaritan and with gratitude I cashed out the ticket and took off for brunch. That meal would not have tasted so good if I stupidly left the $700 in the machine.

This happens a lot now that they don't make you "play it off".

Thanks for the warning. Last week at Palms we regularly played a bank of STP. when one of us needed to hit the restroom etc. one of us would do the chair tip and just leave anywhere from $20 to several hundred. I noticed that traffic really picked up behind us whenever one of us would leave.

Yeah. I left about $20 in a bartop at Mirage in Feb. 2014. I realized i left it in less than a minute and a guy was trying to play the machine. I told him it was mine and at first he acted like i left nothing in there. But after saying i would get other people involved, he looks at the TITO amount, acts surprised and breaks up the ticket to to give me my money back. Fairly sure he was trying to steal it.

And i used to leave significant TITOs in bartops for bathroom breaks, but now not so much. Bartenders are busy. At my local once a couple left a $100 credit in the machine. I informed the bartender. He said we should split it and i think he was only half-joking. Lol

But he informed other personnel and eventually they found the couple in the casino and gave them the ticket.

Just to highjack the tread a little, one of my pet peeves is when people ask me to watch their machine so they can take a break. Do I look like a security guard or casino personal? I want to focus and enjoy my machine and not worry about your machine. Also I am a slot hopper so I never know how long I will stay at a machine. Some people seem to get upset when I say no, but I am here at the casino for my enjoyment, not yours.

I will admit that over the years I have probably played other peoples left over credits, never more than a few bucks, because on some machines it is hard to tell if there are left over credits at first glance. However, just recently I sat down next to an empty machine that had a bonus game that had not been started yet, so I called over the slot personnel and they got management to play the bonus and then they filled out some paperwork, hopefully they were able to track down the player.

We were at MB this past weekend, and my wife went from a penny slot to a quarter "top dollar" slot. She had odd pennies on her ticket and when she put it in the first machine it spit out a ticket. Put that in another machine and it spit it back out. When we looked at the ticket it was for $.03. She had previously cashed out for a little over $100. So we walked back to the initial machine she cashed out of and saw an attendant. Told him the story and he looked at the ticket and said it was for a different machine. We hustled back to the first machine she had tried and it showed the 400+ credits sitting there. Luckily no one took that and cashed it out. We didn't know that not all machines would keep track of the total dollar amount, regardless of credit size. The attendant did say that leaving credits on a machine was the same as leaving money laying out, and if someone scooped it up it was our loss.
