Thanks to the A&E show he was one of the biggest attractions nationwide. Seems like after it's run, we don't hear much of him anymore.
With the exception of his Vegas show, is he still as popular there in town? Does he still do any sidewalk illusions at all or more like the 15 minutes of fame have caught on.

Everything he did was heavily digitally edited. When he was exposed that's when he started to fade. I've met him several times on a personal level. Very nice guy, humble beginnings working State Fairs. He earned his fame.

Cirque de Soleil are the real magicians. They made his career disappear,

Well, sorta. The inability to stage, block and edit out the suspension cables made his career disappear.

I'd be happy to have Criss' career and his millions of dollars.

    "biggest attraction nationwide"......????

I never thought that. Actually the vast majority of his reviews are not good and that's been consistent since his show opened. People walk out, often. His show was one of the few we never had any desire to see. Obviously some people liked it though, since the show has been going for awhile. To each their own.

I just looked at the video.

Now, since this is a new show in a backwater casino with a failed reputation... Need some buzz? I'm not accusing them of staging this but if I wanted extra publicity for a magician with a fading career at a crap casino with bad financials I'd think something up very similar to this.

Look at all the free publicity they got for a show probably very few knew about.

    Brilliant!

But I'm not accusing anyone of being that smart.

That's messed up. Why would anyone want to expose somebody's tricks of the trade? Stage magic is all about illusions. There is no REAL magic. Everyone watching should know they are rigged, but we're supposed to enjoy the tricks, not figure them out.

Read my opening post again. I was referring to his A&E TV show a.k.a. Mindfreak. That's what got him noticed nationwide.

Yes, because of his street performances he was "noticed". And then got his own show. Doesn't matter. Street performances, TV shows, Las Vegas show, still way over hyped. He's had his 15 minutes of fame. I'm not sure how he is going to live up to his contract, which I believe is thru 2019.

I thought the same thing. I hope I'm wrong but couldn't help immediately thinking it could be a publicity stunt.

We found his Vegas show really good, actually. I did not think it would be and laughed at my husband for the suggestion, but I was pleasantly surprised. You're right though, you don't hear for him much at all anymore... which I think, after seeing him live, is a shame.

I am glad you liked the show MrsFuri. My son is a big Criss Angel fan, and has watched all of his TV shows multiple times. So he will be seeing him in Vegas in a couple of weeks. After reading the reviews, I pretty much let my son know people either loved the show or hated it. I would have loved to gone for the MyVegas reward of buy one ticket for $50 and get one free BUT I knew my son would want to sit close (despite the fact I think the show would be better if you sit back a little). I have read a lot of posts about how people get cheap tickets and get to move up to the front rows -- but that is not a given. As for me, for this show, I would do that, buy a ticket and hope to move up a bit. But for my son, I wanted to make sure he got to sit where he wanted to sit and so I paid far more than I probably needed to and so we don't have to hope he gets a good seat.

As for me, as long as my son likes the show and he gets to see one of his heroes up close, it will be money well spent. (Or at least that is what I am telling myself). My son is an adult, but he is a bit developmentally disabled, and so his entertainment gauge is different than mine. I know some people fault the show because they say Criss Angel spends a lot of time showing videos and talking about how great he is. As long as he does some magic, my son would be totally happy to sit close and hear Criss Angel talk about how great he is. So I am hoping it will be a good experience for him - but based on the reviews, I am still a bit concerned whether he will like it the $$$ worth it costs.

As far as his celebrity status -- the first thing my chiropractor asked me when he heard I was going to Vegas was whether I would get to see Criss Angel. So I guess he still has a good share of fans out there.

I bet your son will love it... There are some videos and he does talk about his impressive accomplishments but I didn't find them "too much". There's a lot of "magic".

Like your son, I enjoy sitting up close and we had tickets in the 2nd row! I loved it and would pay the money for the same seats again (if the show was different or revamped, of course, no need to see it twice).

I hope you guys have the best time and enjoy his show, it's an easy show to like if you're open to liking it!

Thanks MrsFuri! My son actually has a front row seat. He sold us out. LOL I told him if he wanted front row seats that he would go by himself. We would either all three go with cheaper seats, or if he paid for prime seats, my sister and I would probably spend our $$ on a show we would rather see. He picked prime seats! I did find a fourth row seat on a discount ticket site, but he wanted front row. I couldn't justify paying $40 more for a ticket for the difference between front row and fourth row. So I paid up to the cost of the discount ticket, and he has to kick in the difference.

Six of my relatives went a few years ago to see him. For four of them it was their first time in Las Vegas. They knew nothing of the reviews for his show. All six of them loved the show. I guess it's all a matter of expectation.

I have friends who went to his show. they were not impressed and walked out before it ended. I also read all the negative reviews and didn't bother seeing his show. I think A&E was just hyping him when he first came out. I think he was on the Las Vegas show years ago also. So not sure if his celebrity status really took off much.
