An article in the paper this a.m. -
The Alamanac predicts long hot summer in Northeast.
The writer made the Almanac seem like it's
    The Holy Grail of forecasting.
I tracked it's predictions over this past winter -
    ah ?........not much was correct.
I figure, it's hit or miss.......some times spot on.
    What do you think ?

Nostradamus, my handicapping skills at the track, playing Sic-Bo, political forecasting, arguing religion, fortune-telling, the daily horoscope ... the Almanac goes right in there; it can make for fun and spirited chatter but I'd not bank on any of it.

You forgot reading tea leaves, pig entrails and the Ouija board.

The Old Farmer's Almanac is about as reliable as NOAA weather forecasts 10 days in advance - 50% to 75% accurate at best.

To me its like the Bible, it can make for interesting reading but I am not one to take it literally.

Back when I worked in TV our head AMS meteorologist fancied himself a scientist also. He did hold a PHD in Meteorology and also taught classes at Marquette University. Anyway, he hated when they went to the 3 day forecast, then the 7 day and now we are at the 10 day forecast.

He told me once that they can very reliably predict 24 hrs in advance, after that, it just an educated guess.
