Okay after weighing all of my options, I have decided to give Gold Coast a chance for 2 nights next month. My flight gets in at 9:30PM and I will need to check out early on the 2nd day to make late registration for a tournament at Palazzo, leaving me at GC for only about 36 hours. So, even if I don't love it, I will be in and out in a flash!

I have a food comp for $75 a day and it will be applied to the room. Do they actually separate it out by day or just look at the total? I am figuring on the Cortez room on the full day for dinner but if I have to spend the other $75 either on check in night or check out day, that will be a challenge! If I can just spread the $150 over the whole time, I might come closer to using it.

I guess I didn't pay attention when I was there in March. Is there more than one video poker bar? I am a huge fan of the Mike's Bar at 4 Queens because they take great care of me, including keeping an eye on me if anyone even appears to be bothering me. (I'm an old solo broad so I appreciate that.) I would love to find a bar that has that kind of homey safe feeling.

Is there anything else I should know? Any room request I should make (I will have a suite I guess)? Something not to be missed?

Thanks! I'm looking forward to trying a new place :)

I like Gold Coast... not fancy at all, but clean & comfortable... all of my meal-comps have been on the back-end, so I'm not sure how your $75 thing would work. IF I were you, I'd just eat where you want, charge it to the room, and if there's a problem at check-out, just find a pit or a host & get them to fix it.
The main casino bar is large and stays very active during day, in the afternoon/early evening. It's the only one I've ever noticed. I don't play VP or sit at bars in Vegas, so I cannot speak to vibe at the bar, but I've played a lot of blackjack & UTH there... and the pits seem very attentive to any sort of riff-raff or "problem" guests...they have always been quick to deal with those kinds of issues, rare though they may be.
I wouldn't be too worried about playing at that bar in any event - Gold Coast is a generally "older" crowd, and the people I've interacted with have all been friendly & not obnoxious at all.
    Best of luck!

I stayed in a Deluxe King room at GC last month, and again a few days later in a Premium King. The only difference I could see is a walk-in shower in the Deluxe vs. a tub in the Premium ... and I prefer the walk-in. The only downside is no safe in either room. (Yeah, I know you didn't ask about the rooms, but I'm including it for free. :) )

Anyway, to answer your question, there are two other bars having VP machines: the Red Zone and another small bar (often closed during the day) along the front wall a little past the Noodle Exchange. No GC complaints!

There are 2 or 3 VP bars. One is either often closed or it's just my imagination. There is a big VP bar near the sports book and another one all the way in the back. Gold Coast is pretty safe. I don't worry about my wife there and I'm rather protective of her. The downside to their VP is that the screens are old school CRT. Once you get used to the new high def screens at the nicer places, the old screens look very blurry to my old eyes.

The VP bar by the sports book gets a lot more action. It's pretty quiet at the VP bar in the back.

Cheap gambling, a decent place. A 2 minute walk to the Rio or Palms if you wish. Ping Pang Pong has good food.

Though some of the VP screens in the back are pretty bad,the bar itself is pretty cool.Nice chairs and super-low bar just a few feet up from the floor.Have to say it's a must stop for me every trip.the cell phone reception back there is close to zero though if that matters to you.The bartenders are pretty good w/tips of course and I am often backed up without even asking for another..Hit my one and only (so far) royal back there..It's just a nice quiet place to sit and play for awhile especially when single seats may not be available at the center bar and/or you want to change machines. Also security is always around in the GC. Good Luck!

The $75 dining credit is PER DAY...so you can't charge $150 on one day, and none on the next.
(I had a $10 per day dining credit)
I like GC too...but they're too damn hard to get a good mailer from (best I ever seen with $10k per day was 2 nights + $10 per day food)

Interesting. I think I got the same mailer by stopping by just to play my ACG match play coupons and leaving.

If they have a hot dog cart set up in the sports book, a $75 food credit might be just enough to challenge someone to a hot dog eating contest, as long as it doesn't happen to be Joey Chestnut.

I have eaten at all of the restaurants at GC.
My personal fav is the Noddle Exchange.

The Cortez Room is closing at the end of June.
I will have one last meal there on June 9th.

Thanks for all the comments. I am disappointed that Cortez Room is closing. I already decided what I was going to have there - haha. I won't come close to using the $75 per day, so if anyone is around stop by and I will buy you some Ping Pang Pong :)

It sounds like it will be a very laid back stay, and that will be cool.

There is also a video poker bar upstairs in the bowling alley. I know it's cliche' but you could use your food in TGI Fridays, my wife loves that place. I wonder if you can use your food voucher on room service? My wife used to get 150 a day in food vouchers and 75 in free play a day and we are super low rollers.

I am curious about the closing of the Cortez Room, as I was looking forward to trying it. They are still accepting reservations on Open Table, and I can only find one reference to a possible closing on another website and it was pretty vague. I am not doubting you, but I am hoping the situation has changed.

Thanks Big dan, I will check out the bowling alley bar. it would certainly be a different atmosphere! I certainly hope I can use the food voucher on Friday's room service (I think i understand that room service is from Friday's :confused2: ) as that is my latest scheme to use up a good chunk of it. A couple appetizers & a bottle of wine in my room as soon as I arrive doesn't sound like a terrible idea :)

I was @ The Cortez Room last month, and the waiter confirmed that they were closing at the end of June.
I will confirm when I go on the 9th and report here.

The room service is provided by TGI Fridays. We tried it out last year and didn't have any complaints.

Well you can't get a better source than that! What a shame for them.

Thanks, sounds like it will work fine for me.

I have only eaten at the Cortez Room once, but really enjoyed it. Thought it was a terrific value. Very sorry to see it is closing. Will eat there in a couple of weeks.

You are likely the only person to have 10k coin in per day to receive that low of an offer. Gold Coast is one of the most aggressive casinos in terms of mailers dangling Freeplay and Food Credit.

I also only played the 9/6 JoB STP machines...probably not the best for earning THEO, but with such good payback...I couldn't resist.

When I was at the Cortez Room last night, they told me they were NOT closing. The original plan was to move it into the showroom and remodel the Cortez Room, probably into a banquet room, but that management chamged their minds. I will be back in 2 weeks and will check.
