Have you ever asked for the table max to be increased? Or seen someone ask? And has the pit accommodated the request? My last trip to Aruba, the table max was $300 and I asked if I could play more than that and they would not let me. I know Aruba is not Vegas but I wonder how often it would happen in Vegas...that someone wants to bet more than the posted table max.

Why not just move to a table with a higher limit? The rules will likely be more favorable that way as well.

Vegas table limit maxes are much higher. I think to some extent it depends on how you are dealing. If they you are just trying to create a higher spread for counting they likely would not allow it. But I have seen people simply bet higher than the table max and they just ignored it. In particular one time at Orleans I was playing at a table that I think was $10 - $2000. A lady at the table was frequently betting over the max and the pit and dealer never raised the issue. She was winning and tipping heavily - at one point they had to restock the table with blacks because she preferred not to have them changed for purples - although at times they had to pay her with purples when they did not have enough blacks. I think she was known to the pit and while her bets varied she wasn't counting or employing some betting strategy that might be a reason for them to cap her at the table limit. What I thought was neat was the guy next to her was flat betting $10 a hand and was much more concerned about his results than her - plus was very new to the game. She never worried about his play - just helped him if he asked and made him enjoy the game along with the rest of the table.

Depends on where you are. He said he's in Aruba; I've been in some dinky casinos down in the Caribbean where that isn't really an option (e.g., the Divi Carina Bay in St. Croix, which has like three blackjack tables total and you're lucky if more than one is open).

Table max is put in place to protect the casino from getting killed by a player on a heater.

The only reason they raise it is when you have a large CL/FM and are willing to risk it.

They have no interest in letting you try to take a big swing at them with their money.

And yes "their money" is how they look at it when you beat them even though it is your money at that point.

Exactly this. The casino I was in had 3 BJ tables all with $10 min and $300 max so moving tables was not an option.

I think that whether they are willing to raise the max bet depends on who you are and how well they know you. I was at the Riverside Casino in Laughlin playing craps at a low limit table where the max was $1000. Then I saw the casino bosses bring stacks of $500 chips to the table. They said they got a call from a customer who was on his way over and always liked to play with $500 chips. Once he arrived he was continually making bets from $2500 to $6000.

We have a few mini bacc players that we will raise the limits for. Our typical table is 25-25000 but we have raised it to 100k max for this guy. He also gets anything he wants and most of the dealers do not want to deal to him, he is known to not tip when he wins and he has physically assaulted a dealer on more than one occasion and all they do is change the dealer and let him play, they (the casino) does not want to miss out on that action so they would rather change dealers than kick him out.

Sure seems like with blackjack anyway, that it's always 100x the minimum bet... so, a $5 min would have a $500 max... $10 to $1000... $25 to $2500 and so on.

I think this a 'martingale' stop-measure, as you reach 100x minimum at the 8th hand (5-10-20-40-80-160-320-500 instead of 640).
    With $10s... 10-20-40-80-160-320-640-1000 instead of 1280.
    $25s... 25-50-100-200-400-800-1600-2500 instead of 3200.

What has happened to me in the past is that PH has not raised the table when I have been playing (craps). It was a $10 table and I noticed that they were raising all the $10 table to $15. I asked the floor person why they weren't raising my table. I was told that they wouldn't raise it because I was on it (I was the only 7 star player on it at that time). I told them I'd prefer if they raised it, so they raised it to $15. I've never seen or heard of that before. They said they wouldn't raise the limit if there were 7 star players already playing.

How about letting someone playing for less than the minimum? My last trip I was at a $25 table at Cromwell betting $75-$100 and was with a friend that didn't want to bet $25. I asked if he could play at a lower level and they let him play for $5-$10 per hand. I had never asked for that before and was surprised they were ok with it.

    It makes sense to me.
The casino doesn't want 7 star players to bet more because they already have 7 stars. j/k.

Oh, I'm not doubting that there are tables just like that one... I'm just saying that the 100x minimum pattern is very, very prevalent. I think it's to put a crimp in martingale players.

It's always such a difference for me when I go to Vegas. My local casino is quite small and the spread there is only 20x, $5-$100 and $25-$500.

If you were a Martingale player with the bankroll to bet that way, what is stopping you from heading to the high limit room and placing your $640+ bets there? I mean I realize eventually you'll hit the limit in there too, but why not offer the HL room max bet on the floor?
