Hey guys I have tentative plans to stay at cal on a thur night in late June.
I will not be getting to the hotel until 12am-1230 am. Anyone have success calling and potentially paying a little more for a late check out? I am moving to the strip the next day with a group of friends.
I do not think I have gambled at a bconnected property but I could be wrong.
If not at cal any place worth a shot?
    Thanks

I can't speak directly for the Cal but I've stayed at its sister hotel (both Boyd properties) the Fremont for the last few years. Checkout time is noon but I've had no problem getting an extra hour just by calling down to the desk and asking. No charge. I can't guarantee the Cal will be as easy but they're owned by the same people*.

The reason I asked for the extra hour is because I was, like you, moving to the strip. I figured a later arrival would give me a better chance at being able to just check in and get in my new room when I got there. It's worked so far.

Of course, how easy it will be to get that late check out will depend on what day it is. My return to the strip has always been on a Sunday, which isn't a big day for new guests to be checking in. If you're trying to get a late check out on a Friday or Saturday, I imagine they'd probably be less accommodating about it.

*I stayed at the Cal only once and that was several years ago. We had problems with the room and the staff during that stay were, to put it mildly, not overly helpful or friendly. Then again, most people seem to have had a good experience staying at the Cal so we could have just caught them on a bad weekend.

If you're considering going with another hotel, I've been very happy with the Fremont. It's an older hotel and not fancy but the location is near perfect (right in the middle of Fremont Street and a quick walk to everywhere), the casino is easy to navigate, and the staff is very friendly and helpful with any questions or requests. You should be forewarned, however, that the rooms are very small.

I've also stayed at the D, which is newer and nicer but the elevators are truly horrible. I had waits of 10 minutes and more back in November, although I've heard that it's improved some since then.

Whenever I have requested a late check out at the Cal they offer 1pm complimentary. Anything later is a charge of the nightly rate.

I agree that an extra hour is easy just by asking, but they always want to charge beyond that.

A few years ago at a Strip casino, I could only get an extra hour asking at the front desk. HOWEVER, a little after noon, while playing BJ, I asked the pit boss if he could get me an extended checkout. A few minutes later he asked me if 4 or 5 hours would be enough! (My flight time was before that.) I don't have a clue if that will work at the Cal, but at least in the past, the casino was engine that drove the hotel!
