Ever HAVE to leave a hot streak?

Man! I was on the streak of all streaks at the BJ table this weekend! 8 or 9 out of 10 times, if I struggled with whether or not to hit a 13, 14 or 15, the card I needed was the next card. I doubled a 7 and 3 against the dealer's 5. The dealer gets 20 and my double card was an ace! I rarely busted. This went on for 3-4 hours, and if I had the courage to up my bets, it could have been a run of epic proportions. However, "she who must be obeyed" (wife) could not hang with me and eventually duty called. I did not return and will wait until my next trip to hopefully find success again. Anyone else ever "have" to leave a run?

 

This is primarily why I save my serious gambling for late evening, when the GF has passed out in the room. Lets me focus while not feeling pressured.

 

It's never a bad time to get up and leave.

 

same here. plus it seems there are more tables that are not crowded. only like to play with 3 or less at the table

There was this one time where I rolled for close to an hour at the craps tables. Made a bit of money for myself and for my table mates. The table was pretty hot and when the dice came around the two people before me had some monster rolls, much to the delight of the table players.

We had a red-eye flight and were scheduled to leave in about 20 minutes. After the lady next to me sevened out, I colored.

The table went ballistic. I apologized and explained why I'm coloring up. "Catch another flight, we stayed at the table because of you!", they lamented.

After another bunch of apologies, I stood in line to cash in my chips. The line was long so after a while I looked over at the table I was playing at. I guess the streaks were gone because so were all the players, lol!!

The thing is, there is no way to tell if I would've repeated that previous monster roll. Chances are I would've PSO'd. But that table sure was hot......

 

My first trip to Vegas (after playing in Reno for many years), I found myself at a BJ table at the Fitz. It was a great party table, the rest of the table were made up of coworkers that had just successfully introduced the nicotine patch (this was back when Fremont Street had traffic) and were celebrating. I was having a good time sharing drinks and partying with them. Three hours into it, with my husband coming along regularly telling me to press my bets because I was on the winning streak of a lifetime, he'd finally had enough and dragged me out. I left up a few hundred but till this day, we still laugh about the time I could have made soooo much more if only I'd pressed my bets. I'd had way too much to drink (lesson learned, have never done that again) but thank god he dragged me away while I was still a few hundred up.

It took twice as long to get to our room at the Golden Nugget because I bounced off both walls (it's a very wide hallway!) Never again!!!

Shifter's right, the thing to remember is that you said "it could have been a run of epic proportions". Your wife likely did save you tons of money. You can't begrudge what might have been, you can only go forward and hope for the best!

 

About 1 ½ years ago, it seemed I just couldn't lose playing three-card poker at Sam's Town. I was relatively new to the game and wasn't betting nearly as aggressively as I should have, but the main problem was coming down with the dreaded flu earlier in the day! I was mainly just trying to keep from falling off my perch and would have continued playing if Ms. Gecko and I didn't have plans. In hindsight, I never should have left, and wouldn't have if I had been feeling better. I can only dream of doing so well at that game again.

Then there was this time in Atlantic City when I couldn't lose at BJ or craps the whole night, but had to quit in order to catch the charter flight back to Atlanta. It seems some of my best sessions have occurred when I had to leave. That's one reason I try not to sit at a table when I only have a limited amount of time.

 

The only thing I ever allow to end a streak for me is my bankroll protection level.
I always protect at $100 increments when playing blackjack with a $10 base-bet (my most common casino play).

This doesn't mean that if I'm $100 up, I leave - it means that if I ever lose $199 (or less) of my existing chips, the streak is over & I color out.
Typically, this "rule" kicks in for me when I have tripled my buy-in. So, let's say I buy in for $100 & I work that up to $360. My loss-limit would kick in at $160.
But if the streak continues and I get to $440, then it becomes a $140 loss-limit...and so on.
The only time I break this "rule" is on doubles, splits or very positive counts...then I will allow myself to bet more, such that if I lost that hand, I would lose more than my "loss-limit".

But yeah - I have missed flights before rather than leave a hot streak...of course, this was back in the days when all you had to do was call the airline & tell them an hour+ before your scheduled departure time. They would re-book you without a change fee.

I have let Vegas companions move on to the next casino without me, rather than leave a hot streak.
I would always catch up later...but more often, I'd talk them into staying and buying in.

 

In 20+ yrs of VEGAS..........I have NEVER left a Hot Streak.

But I'm also, one to know, the hot streak can end immediately --
Meaning........I don't hang around + keep betting......after the table goes
back to "cold".
I've seen so many gamblers try to "force" ( hope by betting large) a hot streak to continue.
You just have to be aware of when that Hot Streak occurs.......THEN - bet large....and when to get out.

I have posted about it before, 1983, at the MGM in Reno, Nevada. I had just moved there to open up our gold and silver mining exploration office. I was just barely out of school.

My first time playing craps, I did not know the rules, I did not understand anything, I just liked rolling the dice.

I start rolling, and rolling, and rolling, and rolling. I ordered a beer, and I had it immediately. I really liked that.

I went to the bathroom, normally, when you do this the dealers offer the dice to the other shooters, not one other player ever took the dice. I came back, they tell me I am still the shooter. I just kept rolling.

I had the dealers tell me to do things, so I did it, they gave me money. The other bettors were tipping me. I can still remember them throwing chips at me and I threw them back.(I am honest), the dealers then explained to me that since I was making everyone lots of money they were tipping me.

Eventually, I realized I was too drunk to keep rolling and standing up and drinking and I gave up the dice. I was soundly BOOED by the table. I thought that was pretty funny.

I never sevened out. I gave up the dice.

Ever since then, I have been trying to do that again, and I have failed.

I saw that happen at Sam's Town last year. A guy was throwing and playing the dark side. He kept rolling and rolling, hitting numbers and hitting his point numerous times. Guy was clueless and kept playing the dark side, even doubling his bets in an attempt to make his money back. After 25 minutes he finally said that he gave up and passed the dice to the next shooter (in the middle of his roll). Most of us made a lot of money off the guy but guess the guy was intent to keep playing the dark side. Sometimes you just shake you head when you see some people playing.

 

It was the last day of my trip, and I was scheduled to fly out around 3pm. I'm at the Tropicana, and decide that since I have a bit more in my bankroll than expected, I'd play some $25 blackjack. (I usually play $10). When playing blackjack, I always add a chip after a BJ, win both hands of a split, or win a double down. I cashed in with $200, and after about an hour, I'm sitting at $1400, with plenty of doubles and splits paying off, even split 8's with a double on the two resulting hands at $100 each. Flight keeps getting closer and closer, and I finally had to cash out up 1100. Pit boss was looking at me pretty hard, though I think he could tell from the grin on my face I was just getting lucky.

 

One night me and the gf drove to the casino separately. At about 2 AM she was tired and wanted to leave. She left a $150 ticket with me and I said what the hell Ill just sit through one more machine(10/6 DDB.) 14 four of a kinds later I could barely keep my eyes open and I cashed out at $3k. I never forgot that machine and hated leaving it. 13 of the 14 4oaks were 800 coin hits.

 

Oh man, that makes my trip in two weeks seem like forever from now.

I was at my brother's bachelor party and having fine luck, but nothing crazy. The night before we leave I throw a hundred in the JoB machine at Book and Stage (Cosmo serves some high quality stuff at the bar top machines). I only stopped when my brother almost forcibly removed me to catch a plane about 10 hours later. If I hadn't been so hammered I woulda told him to leave me. I'm getting yanked back to the room and randomly throw twenty bucks in a slot (my brother is now beet red and furious) and make 100 on it.

"Ok. Now we can go."

 

Never.
The hot streak has ended once I leave the table.
At least that is what I tell myself.

All my married friends view this as the "cooler" phone call. I know it's purely anecdotal, but a lot of times after they've received this call, I'll see them 7 out shortly at the craps table.
