I am going to Vegas with my BFF in Sept or Oct for a girls trip! We want to stay somewhere very nice! We aren't big gamblers. We mostly want to take in the sights and enjoy some shows and restaurants. We would also like a nice pool to relax by. What would be our best option? We definitely want the Strip for our location.

Wynn/Encore is about as nice as it gets, beautiful property with great rooms and pool area! If you wand a non casino property i would go with Mandarin Oriental.

Thank you. I guess I need to clarify, it does not have to be a non casino hotel. I just don't care a whole lot about the casino. I will play a few slots, but that isn't why I am there. I am more concerned with atmosphere. I will check out the Wynn! Also, I have only been once and stayed at the Bellagio. Loved it!!!

Encore or Delano are your best bets given your criteria. Delano is also a non-casino hotel although you will need to go through Mandalay Bay to access some areas. The drawback to both is location, as Encore is on the extreme North end of the main strip and Delano is at the extreme south end. However I have walked from MB to Encore and it's really not bad especially if you're planning on sightseeing along the way.

If you want something more central I'd look into Vdara for a non-casino hotel with its own pool. Since they added more shade the Vdara death ray shouldn't be a problem. Cosmopolitan is also a nice option if you don't mind a younger clubby vibe.

    Consider Aria Sky Suites.

Four Seasons will give you the option of tranquility, great service, relaxing pool with the easy access to Mandalay Bay restaurants, casino and pools.
For your purposes the best of both worlds.
    That or Mandarin Oriental.

Wynncore is certainly up there. We also love Palazzo.

What is everyone's thoughts on the Venetian? I am really liking the looks of that hotel.

We are Venetian/Palazzo people and love it. Sunken living room is a nice addition for us as we have family in town, so having more than just us in the room is common.

I really like their restaurant lineup and the property got a lot of good things going for it. However the hotel itself is certainly a step below Wynncore and the pool area is two steps below. Its a top 5 Vegas resort but when comparing to other 5 star hotels i consider Wynncore, Cosmo and Aria to be nicer but i would rank V/P slightly ahead of Bellagio. Also if you choose to stay there go with Palazzo since Venetian shows a lot more wear and tear.

I've stayed in Palazzo twice, first was five years ago in a suite and second was earlier this year in a regular room. The rooms are very nice but the standard rooms are showing a lot of wear. The suites on the high floors have a great view of Treasure Island and the mountains. The pool is nice but not as nice as Encore's. I don't like the vibe at the casino, personally, it's one of my least favourite places to gamble. Pluses are Bouchon and Yardbird, both fantastic restaurants.

For me it's between Encore and Cosmo. Having stayed at both, I'd say if you get a one bedroom terrace suite or above, the rooms are nicer at the Cosmo. Having said that, the property as a whole is nicer at Wynncore. Everything from the landscaping to the bathrooms just screams luxury at Wynncore. If you want more of a party vibe, Cosmo can't be beat but the serenity of Encore is one of a kind in Vegas.

Lots of nice hotels in vegas.

Something to keep in mind is that 5 star hotels come with 5 star prices as well as 5 star priced food and drinks.

Of the 5* places I've stayed at (Aria, Vdara, Cosmo), I'm most likely to recommend Cosmo. Spacious rooms, and I'm partial to the layout and vibe of the casino floor. Vdara is a non casino property... it's a short walk to Bellagio, Cosmo, and Aria. They're all suites with kitchens, if that matters.

I can't speak on pools however, since I don't use them. Consider the location too, if you plan on casino hopping. That works against Delano (at MB) and Wynn to a degree.

One thing to keep in mind is a regular room at a 5 star place is nowhere near the same as a large suite or villa.

Sure the service is supposedly better but a room is a room.

Well for regular people who don't gambol enough to stay at that Mansion its about as nice of a place you can find on the Strip. Their standard rooms and lower end suites (terrace and wraparound) is some of the nicest among all strip properties.

Arguably it's standard rooms are more 5 star than a base spa tower room at Bellagio.

I'd say Cosmo for the OP. Wynncore is far, far nicer but if they want to be on the strip and sightsee it is far, far away from mid strip and hours (walking) from Mandalay etc.

They can be as nice as anything.

But 5 stars is an actual rating that encompasses much more than just the room.

It's not just a "nice" factor.

True, and I completely agree with you. It's the entire experience that denotes a star rating. Although truthfully, for the amount I use a hotels amenities when I stay there I can't really tell much difference between a 3 star and 6 star hotel. A good 3 star is often much better than an off day at a 6 star.

However, the OP said they want to stay somewhere "really nice". So I reckon that it's the rest of us that are arbitrarily discussing the star rating.
