I have tried to search the forum and looked at the McCarren rental car portion of the web site and could not find the answer so I figured I would ask. The last few trips, we have rented cars from Thrifty or Dollar. Both of them have the option to skip the counter and head right out to the garage for a quick check in. This trip I have found way cheaper prices at Enterprise, Advantage and Payless. All three are booked and are within a few bucks of each other. Does anyone know if these places have the skip the counter option? It couldn't really tell by looking at the individual web sites either. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I just hate dealing with the rental companies unless I have to.

Also, any input on which of those 3 companies I should choose would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

sorry, can't answer your question, but I typically find Alamo is competitive with other rental agencies when I book thru Costco, which I do almost exclusively, and Alamo has a self-service kiosk you can use so that you don't have to deal with the folks at the counter. i've used Alamo almost exclusively because of this, in part because Costco only has partnerships with four agencies, one of which is Budget, and you can't avoid the nickel and diming of Budget employees when your rent from them, which is why i no longer do.

    I'm curious about Enterprise, too.

Advantage and Payless do not have an option to bypass the rental counters. I've rented from Advantage many times and would rather rent from them over Payless but that's JMHO. I heard that Advantage lines at the counter are sometimes long but I've never encountered that in vegas.

I rented from Budget at McCarran last week. Using their Fast Break program, I was able to bypass the rental counter. I've also done this with Thrifty's Blue Chip program.

If you book with Alamo with their codes, you can skip the counter and go straight to the cars. If you use a third party code you can go to the kiosk. With Hertz, you can also skip the counter if you are Gold with them.

I have rented from Dollar twice but when I rented from Budget and joined their FastPass program, that does it for me. I skip the unpleasant counter process and, they have a pre-pay option where I pay in full when I book and that price is discounted 4-10% and the more you rent, the more you save.

I also was going to ask the same question. I found a Advantage rate, thru BConnected, that was half of my Dollar rate for Fight week in Vegas. Hate lines but if it means saving $150.00........

Thanks for the info. So far I am leaning towards Advantage. Today I re-booked and Advantage once again dropped in price. $73.46 for a mid-size from 4/14-4/17 seems like a pretty decent deal to me.

With Enterprise, you can use the machine and skip the first counter, if the machine is working, that is. You don't need to be a member of their club to do this.

There may be a line in the office in the lot, as they have someone escort you to your car and there is sometimes a wait.

Interesting. Have you personally used the machine before? If so, do you enter your reservation number and swipe your credit card? Just curious.

I'm using Enterprise next month, not in any club. If I can use a kiosk without being a member that would be sweet. Although I booked through Costco so I don't know if that would work.

    Yes, used it several times.

You insert both your DL and CC. It usually finds your reservation without keying in the number. You then take the print-out to the lot to complete the rental.

Good to know. That is exactly the type of information that I was looking for. Anything self-service related when it comes to renting cars is a huge help. Only 4 days left to go!! Thanks again!
