Wondering if anyone has been there lately. My husband went a long time ago and we enjoyed the wine tasting. We enjoy wine and go to wine tours where we live where we do wine tastings. Since we have not been in such a long time is it still good or should we skip it.
Any restaurants we should try at the Rio for dinner ?

Wish I could help, DeeDee. We used to put in a good bit of time in there, but it has been many years since the last visit. I checked online for a current wine list but came up empty. But that it's still open ... no harm in sticking your nose in for a look-see and hopefully it's still what it was. Let us know, please!

Where do you live? We're in north Santa Barbara County wine country. We spend way too much time at local wineries.

My husband really wants to go so will report when we go I in June. I live in Ontario Canada and we go to Niagara region where they have excellent wines.

We just did a Niagara on the Lake wine tour a few weeks ago. I'm interested to hear your report on Rio as well. It's probaby 10 years since we've done a tasting at Rio. I use to go frequently when it was my home casino.

My Arizona-based inlaws have friends up that way who own a BnB and they visit every few years.

Funny Rio wine bar story: One time through I wasn't really paying attention, and just ordered a first and second glass of a particular Burgundy. Went to get the tab and it was a Ben. lol

Lesson learned. Don't go drinking with Ken unless he's paying.

I could never tell if the wine cellar was a part of Martorano's or its own thing.

I don't think Wine Cellar has anything to do with Martorano, but I've seen them order food from Martorano if a good customer requests it.

We've stayed at the Rio the past couple of times and will be there again in May but we've never been to the wine cellar. We always mean to but never make it. Hopefully we will this time. My girlfriend enjoys wine a lot more than I do.

My first visit to the wine cellar was this past NYE. We had a really good time. Wines we chose to sample were excellent. Staff was great and extremely knowledgeable, not just about wine but local places to eat & drink, Napa, etc. They even put together a whisky tasting for my husband and they had delicious desserts too.

I've been a regular visitor to the wine cellar for the past several years. I average 3 to 4 trips to Vegas each year and I hit the the wine cellar at least once each visit. Mary Ann, Jose and Lita (wine stewards) know me on sight. This is a great place to relax and escape the craziness that is Vegas. They have a booklet with many different wine flights. Each flight consists of 3 to 4 two ounce samples of a particular wine(zinfandel, merlot, etc) or country (Italy). They also have a featured wine flight that they change every couple of months. If you don't see anything that you like on their wine flight menu, just tell them what you are interested in and they will fix you up with a "personalized" flight. They will give you a glass of water and some bread so that you can cleanse your palate between samples. They also can provide you with a cheese plate (additional cost) to enhance your tasting experience. You can sit at the bar or relax on one of several couches. Grab you glass and check out some of the interesting wines that they have on display; such as a $1500 bottle of Screaming Eagle wine. The people at the wine cellar are very friendly and will bend over backwards to make your stay a pleasant one. If you find a particular wine that you like, you can get a "to go" glass that you can take with you to the casino or to one of the Rio restaurants. They open around 4pm and close at 10pm most nights. My next Vegas trip is in 18 days and you can bet that I will be enjoying some wine at the Rio. They also have a good selection of ports and Scotch malts. Last September I enjoyed a very nice 17 year old single malt. The Rio wine cellar is a unique place...pay them a visit.

What sort of price range are these flights? I miss California wine tasting since I moved east and am pretty interested in this.

Thanks WHITEJACKET73. My husband and I will definitely try this again. Its been 10 years since our last trip but we really loved this place. Is there a great place for dinner at the Rio or maybe Palms that we should try after our wine tasting or maybe before?

I've enjoyed dining at Buzio's seafood restaurant at the Rio. I have not tried Martorano's Italian restaurant, so cannot comment. Simon's restaurant over at the Palms Place has an interesting menu, I have been meaning to try that restaurant sometime this year.

I find Rio's dining options rather disappointing. I suggest going to the Palms. N9NE is great, and Nove is pretty good - the views are outstanding.

    Buzio's is pretty good.

Simon closes next month so if you want to go, you don't have a lot of time.
