We'll be staying at the Mirage on our next trip and are planning to see "Ka" at MGM while there. I was considering getting LV Monorail passes from MyVegas so we don't have to drive, but part of me suspects once we walk from the Mirage over to the Harrah's/LINQ station and redeem the rewards, etc., it will be more trouble than it's worth. (I've never used the LV Monorail.) I will have a car, so we can just drive, but parking at MGM always feels like a chore, too. We are not likely to take a cab. Any advice? Suggestions? Teleport services?

(I know this isn't a big deal. We'll get there one way or another. Just looking for advice and best use of our time/money/energy.) Thanks!

The monorail station at Harrahs is in the back of the casino and quite a walk from the Mirage. I would highly recomend driving to the MGM over the Monorail unless you planned on other stops on that side of the strip. They have free Valet at MGM. If it were me(and I am generally drinking whenver in Vegas) I would just take a cab. That cab ride will run you and whoever is with you to the MGM for about 10-15 bucks.

All depends on how much walking you want to do. you're not really saving any money with the rail, since you already have a car. You need to weigh the energy and time it will take to walk to and from the rail versus the time and hassle it will take to drive and park there. The rail station at MGM and the self parking area there are both a fair walk form the Ka theater

I always rent a car so that I don't have to worry about the hassle about walking/waiting for trams/trains. Valet park at MGM ( tip the kid a $ or 2). It's the same as if a cab dropped you off at MGM but a lot cheaper. On show nights, get to MGM a little earlier that way valet won't be backed up.

Oh BTW be sure you see "Love" at the Mirage. It is twice as good as Ka (IMHO)

I've frequently taken the monorail from Harrah's to MGM Station to get to the south part of the strip, when I've stayed at Venetian/TI/Mirage etc. It can be a pain to get to depending on the time of day and walking through the crowds to get to the monorail entrance, but It works for me since I can carry a beer the entire way or stop and pick one up for the ride to MGM.

If you have never used the LV Monorail, I would recommend riding it at least once. You can get some pretty cool views of the casinos and casino pools that you won't see by driving/walking the strip.

the monorail is a huge chore, and a cab is a fairly inexpensive option (all things in perspective in LV)

I've made that trip many times, and normally just walk from Mirage to Bellagio, hop on the tram that runs to Monte Carlo, out the doors and across the bridge at NYNY. Its shorter than it sounds.

I don't think it would be too bad to take the monorail. Walking through Harrah's will take a bit, but once you arrive at MGM, KA theater is a less than 5 minute walk from the station.

My wife and I have used this option quite a bit (we generally stay at MGM or Mirage with NO rental car) and used the monorail to get to mid strip and also stayed at the Mirage and used the monorail to get south.
I guess put us in the group that doesn't mind a little walking? Its really not that bad from Mirage to MGM or vice versa.
I like it as it avoids congestion at MGM and provides a quick way out during busy valet/cab nights. We cover a lot of ground, or at least try to and the monorail at times can be very efficient for that (especially if its semi free?)

With all that said, already having a car and not wanting to bother with it.........I would call it a toss up IMHO

I have used the monorail quite a bit, and while it is generally quite a hike to get to the stations, its clean, quick, and offers a different view than we ever got walking. I'm not a fan of the packed busses or the stinky cabs so I guess that might play a part into why I like the monorail The police dog cop that was patrolling last time we were there was great too!

Cab is cheaper, faster, easier in most cases.

If you are okay with the long walk through Harrahs, then not a bad idea.

Another suggestion here for taking a cab.

I limit my cab usage because I realized after the first two trips how pricey that can get if you're bouncing around a lot. We never really used the monorail though simply because the access points are a pain in the ass from some locations. The only time I use it is when I am going to The Westgate and want to move at a leisurely pace.

Long walk through Harrahs? Not really...

Whenever I stay at the MGM I always buy a multi day monorail pass and the Harrahs stop is my most frequent one. Great location right there at the north strip. The walk from The Mirage would NOT be that bad at all.

But if you have a car I would just drive.... I would NOT take a cab. I hate cabs. I'd take the monorail over a cab.

I tend to go against the grain here, I think this is a decent use of the monorail. I don't think the Mirage to Harrah's walk is that bad nor is the distance to the monorail there, especially if you are getting a multi-day pass and can make it cost effective with MyVegas vs. cash for the cab.Certainly the monorail isn't a solution for every situation, and I get into the "my time is money" consideration as much as anyone...I just think this is doable without much effort.

cabs in vegas are the devil.......

The monorail would be alot more fun. Cooler scenery and the mgm route is when it hits its top speed. Id rather pay the $5 then pay a cab.

Monorail isn't free. Unless you buy a 24 hour pass, use your car. I think,,,, a 1 way ticket is $5.00 or $6.00, 1 stop, then to return, another purchase will be needed. Total person, roundtrip, $10.00 or $12.00 Per Person. Drive and tip $2.00,,,each way.

Is it a weekend or a weeknight? Sometimes the vallet at MGM gets full, or really packed. On a weekend you could be waiting 30 min for your car. Also the cab lines get packed too. The Monorail is in the back of the casinos, but the walk through Harrah's isn't as far as its a pretty strait line. The Theater KA is in is towards the back of MGM closer to the monorail so it wouldn't be a bad choice. If you are using MyVegas, remember you will need to get to the monorail before the booth closes to use the voucher. If its a weeknight and you won't be drinking them driving and valley would be easiest.
