How are the rooms at the Riviera these days?

I am planning a trip from The Netherlands to Las Vegas in about 2 months. I pay around $1100 dollars for airfare + 18 nights at the Riviera including tax, resortfees et cetera, which for us, is really cheap.

For $3/night more I can get Deluxe Room instead of a Classic Room.

I was wondering if anyone of you guys who have stayed at the Riviera can tell me about the quality of the rooms and the difference between the Classic and Deluxe rooms.

Last but not least: as I want to use the Deuce bus for transport, is there a busstop at the front entrance of the Riviera so I just can hop off and safely walk directly to the Riviera Casino without seeing shady shit at midnight and worrying about my safety? :)

    Thank you in advance! :licklips:

Haha :) I'm totally addicted to Las Vegas.... I even have my own website about Las Vegas written in Dutch (http://www.vegasinfo.nl/) lol.

I want to do many different things in Vegas but for sure I will be playing poker, as I am a pokerplayer  but I also want to go to the Pinball Museum, Mob Museum, Neon Museum, shooting range, grand canyon, getting a limo going to a drive thru, going offstrip casino propertys like the longhorn and much much more

I haven't stayed at Riviera, but it doesn't get very good reviews. And, I wouldn't stay at any one hotel for 18 days! You might want to stay at two or three hotels for a change of scenery.

Very cool! I don't think I could handle that long of a trip. But then again, my flight is only 4 hours and $250 or so. I've never stayed at the Riv, but have you considered staying somewhere like MGM Signature? They are essentially condos and all have a kitchen and washer/dryer. It seems like that would be the way to go for such a long trip.

I'm staying 9 nights and am breaking it up between 3 hotels. One night will be downtown. I've stayed at the Riviera. Not the most glamorous of the hotels on the strip but the bed was comfortable and staff was great. Since its on one end of the strip you might want to consider spending a few nights on the other end just to change it up and have some walking convenience especially at night. Just a thought

I agree with Candy Apple, divide your stay up between different hotels. 6 nights at three hotels might be nice.

I have personally stayed at the Monte Carlo, Gold Coast, Harrah's, Riviera, Golden Nugget twice. The rooms at the Riviera are fine, clean and basic, and I did find the beds comfy. However, the area around the Riviera is a bit sketchy and if you are going to be out at night be aware of your surroundings and be careful. I really like the Monte Carlo, nice pool, and the room was just fine. Bathroom had lots of room in it, very nice water pressure, and the beds were really comfortable and the pillows very nice as well. No hard pillows. Gold Coast is nice as well. Rooms are on the small side, but very clean and beds are comfy and the staff is really nice. They offer free shuttles to the strip and are right across from the Rio. Harrah's is a great location, center strip, and again the room was just fine. Comfy bed, nice big bathroom and nice water pressure in the bathroom. The Golden Nugget downtown is simply beautiful. Again, very nice rooms, comfortable beds and nice hotel/casino staff. All of these properties are reasonable in price. And they all have very nice pools except for Harrah's and The Riviera. Harrah's and the Riviera have small pools, but for me, that was just fine, however, others may want more luxurious pools. I hope this helps. And all the hotels I mentioned, I just had the standard room. Good luck and have fun in Vegas.

If you stay at the Riv, make sure to get a room in the Monaco Tower. It's the only one to have been somewhat recently renovated, and it's probably a 3-3 1/2 star room. The rest of the property is more like 2-2 1/2 stars. Should only set you back a few extra bucks.

I don't think of the immediate area around the Riviera as "sketchy". It's just that there aren't a lot of pedestrians these days compared to when the Stardust and Westward Ho were open, so at times there aren't many people on the strip outside the hotel, which some might find unsettling. Is it as upscale and safe as center strip? No, of course not, but nothing to be concerned about here.

The Riviera's pool is nice, and has something unique. Since it is an older property and the pool was built before lawyers started determining how businesses ran, the pool is actually 9 feet deep at one end, compared to the typical modern 4 foot deep "kiddie pools" that are the norm now.

There is a bus stop right on the corner outside one of the entrances of the Riv, and one across the street at Circus Circus going the other way. One advantage of the Riv's location is that if the buses are crowded, you are getting on the bus BEFORE the popular stops mid strip, so getting a seat will be easier there vs getting on near Flamingo.

Personally, 18 nights in one hotel would drive me crazy, but I understand how air packages work, and it would probably cost you a lot more to stay at other hotels instead. I see some suggestions telling you to stay at other hotels, but you aren't going to be able stay elsewhere on the strip, south of the Riv, for the same price you can stay at the Riv. It's an older hotel, past it's prime, but it's nothing I would say to avoid because of conditions. Hopefully you have plans to eat in various spots around town, because I wouldn't want to eat a lot of meals there. There isn't any good value or exceptional quality food there.

I am not sure which towers are classic vs premium, but for $3 a night, I would think it would be worth the extra money.

I stayed at the Riveria twice the last 6 months. Its a low roller venue, old school vibe. The rooms are very much as the previous poster bdauch explained. The 1st stay they randomly picked me out for a one bedroom suite for my one night stay. Totally dug the old school suite with wet bar, three bathrooms, huge wrap around patio. The room was so big the in the morning after my 1st night stay, they asked me if I was going to extend my stay, (i wasn't because I had prepaid the next few nights at Ballys), because they needed to install a dance floor in my room. The staff all asked me my 1st name and were very nice.
I love the single deck $5 BJ. Downsides are, limitted good resturants, north strip location limits walking to better venues,(Circus Circus is close but gross). The location is midway cab ride both to Downtown or the other direction, South strip casinos. The last stay I upgraded to the Monaco tower, newer, nicer...not worth the extra money unless I was trying to impress a lady. The Riv are cheap rooms on the strip...use the tram to go south for upscale shows and resturants.

Agreed, the Monaco is worth the upgrade. I stayed in the San Remo tower and the room was clean, just not updated. But, I booked the room on a marketing offer, $19 per night for three nights, no resort fee. I would absolutely stay here again on a solo or a frugal trip. The Duece stop is right out front and the 109 stop is adjacent to the rear entrance on Paradise. The SDX is on Convention Center Blvd, a short walk away. Peppermill is next door and there is a McDonald's across LV Blvd. as is Slots O'Fun and Circus Circus. The bar has $1-2-3 specials all day.

Can you link me to that package offer? I'm in Germany but for that price I might as well hop over to Amsterdam.
    Is it Arke?

My wife and I stay at the Riv almost every year (since1989) and for 18 days you may very well be glad you chose the deluxe (usually Monte Carlo tower). The exception, in my opinion, would be if your classic room was in the north (med. north - original tower) tower. While it is oldest, it has always been clean - no frills (every casino can have issues) and fro us very convenient with the elevators pretty much in the middle of the casino. If you have no plans for using the room for anything other than sleeping, showering and dressing (as we do), the classic in the med. towers work great. The San Remo towers (also classic) have in our opinion, have a unique disadvantage. The elevator is on the west end of the tower (the rooms run east to west). so if your room is on the east end, and you park in the garage, you nearly the entire length of the property, up the elevator, then the length of the tower to your room. 18 days of that could get old! There is a stairwell on the east end, but I don't go on vacation to use flights of stairs (and they are not carpeted, overly clean stairs - more like emergency exit type).
By the way, we have always had very good experiences with the self parking. EASY access from Paradise Rd. If you are planning on driving a rental car. And don't miss the comedy club!

Hello everyone and thank you so much for your advice!

In the end me and a friend will be staying from monday 23 march to tuesday 8 april (15 nights) in the Riviera hotel in a luxury room (in the monaco towers i guess) for $1130 per person (including fees, tax etc), which I think is a great rate for ppl from the overseas :)
We will fly with united which is nice!

    Vegassssssssssssss baby

Riviera has a no frills, clean and comfortable room. It does the trick after buying 3 dollar fireball shots at the bar all night!

    Hey Wouter,
We'll be in Vegas during the same days as you are. Flying United from Amsterdam by any chance (around 10 a.m.)? We might even be in the same plane. I wouldn't recommend staying at the Riviera for one night, so 18 nights would be out of the question. I think the place is a dive. If you would like to keep your budget in mind, you might have a look at the Stratosphere . The place is in way better shape, rates are low and a lot of affordable food & beverage options.

Have a great time. Nice to see people who live so far from Vegas fired up to go there.

It sounds like you're locked in, but if not I would personally consider spending a few less nights in Vegas and put the saved money toward a nicer hotel. That is a lot of time in LV, and unless you're rich you runabout of activities quick.

Riviera is so cheap though, that I'm not sure what the next step up would cost you.

My Mom always said there is no accounting for taste. Riviera a Dive? REELlmoneyslotfan, I am curious, when did you last stay at the Riviera? I would argue that the location of the Stratosphere is a big negative, at least with the Riviera one could walk to Wynn, CC, SLS.
