Do you think it's cheaper to make reservations closer to your stay than in advance?

You might find rooms a few dollars cheaper but they might be a lot more too or they might be sold out. To me it's not worth the risk, I just book as soon as I find a rate I'm comfortable with. You may be able to call them if you see a better rate or just cancel and rebook. Not sure as I have never done that but...

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I could always cancel and then rebook if I found a better rate.

If I see a good rate, I'll book. Bu later on, I'll call if I see a better price.

Hotel is the easy part. If you're booking directly with the property or via a host they should be cancelable. As soon as I know my dates I book the room. I normally fly southwest so I have flexibility there too since you can rebook without extra fees. I've even rebooked to the same flight to save a few bucks. It's in the form of credit for a future flight but it's money saved in my eyes.

I always did this, sometimes multiple times.
