I was sitting at 3rd base, full table. Dealer forgets to give me my cards, instead setting them in front of herself. Right away I say "Hey those are my cards" The rest of the deck is still in shuffler. She calls pit boss over who tells her to push my bet back, so I am out of the hand. I was only betting $5 and would have had 2 pair so don't know if I would have won, but would have been pissed if dealer would have gotten a high paying hand. I don't understand why they wouldn't have given me my cards and dealt the next 2 correctly to the dealer or just declared a misdeal.

I am thinking they should have scrapped the whole thing. That isn't right to just exclude you. If anything, just to protect themselves if that had turned out to be a great hand.

Sure seems like the easier and better way to have handled this is precisely as you've suggested - slide those cards to you & give the next two to the dealer.
Perhaps the pit didn't realize that this would have fixed everything.
That aside, the only other legitimate solution would be to declare the entire hand a misdeal.
Keeping you out, continuing the hand as if you had failed to place a bet, is/was the worst possible solution.

I know that when playing 3-card (at 4 Queens), this very thing happened to a player at 3rd base. Pit came over & had the dealer push her cards over to the player & deal herself three more.

I'm betting that's what happened. A LOT of casino employees have no idea how to deal carnival games (or the ins/outs of them).
The only training they get for cards, is really only BJ (count to 21, OK you're good)

The entire hand plays out differently if you get your hand and the dealer gets their own. So, you really have no way of knowing how the hand would have played out.

I agree with topcard though. The optimal solution was to give you the hand the dealer had and the worst possible solution was the one the pitt boss executed.

The only change would have been the dealers cards...unless this is a hand-shuffled game (Rather than using an iDeal; which I've ONLY seen in like TWO places)

Does that mean all the hole cards are dealt for every position up front and the positions on the table that are empty are simply discarded by the dealer after the deal is done (much like in pai gow)? If that's the case, a misdeal sounds even more unlikely.

No, but if he was last position, then it was just HIS cards different...
In other words, the dealers cards would have moved over to his, the the dealers cards would be the next 2 cards.
Easy fix...but it all depends on your history with the casino...

Maybe I'm just ignorant of the game, but if the next two cards didn't go to the dealer, weren't they part of the board or did they simply get discarded?

If discarded, then you're right. Basically the dealer's hand plays out differently, which means loses, qualifies, or beats the other players in the hand.

Depends on the casino. This game is dealt in many variations. CET, in Vegas, deals the dealer first. Many MGM props in Vegas will hand deal the players in rotation, then the dealer gets two consecutive cards, then the board cards. The crappy scenerio would be...

    1. Board cards dealt first
    2. Players get two consecutive cards in order.
    3. OP got screwed out of a winning hand.

What would be really crappy is, assuming board cards are dealt first, the board consisted of trips or better. Then it wouldn't matter what the OP's cards were, he would have been paid on his Trips bet (assuming he plays the Trips bet).

I think every players cards would be different. In addition, the entire shoe would be corrupted. The right call for the pit would be to push back all bets and shuffle an entire new shoe. Problem is these decisions are made quickly without thinking them through.

This was dealt using a shuffler. She dealt the 5 community cards first and then it spits out cards two at a time. So all the other players' cards would not have changed. I would have gotten her two and she would have taken the next two as I don't think she had hit the button on the machine yet. I really thought it should have been a misdeal and all cards taken back. Isn't that the reason they don't let you pick up the cards until they place the remainder of the deck in the discard pile?

In the dealers defense the amount of players had just changed. My husband had just sat to my right adding one more player, and there was another couple in the middle seats that drove me nuts by not betting every hand. I know statistically it shouldn't matter but every time one of them sat out, the dealer would get "my" flush, straight, etc.

Something like this happened at the Las Vegas Hilton a number of years ago. The pit boss decided to call a misdeal on the hand and several of us bitched that we had cards that would have had a payout on the Trips bet.

I thought he had a very customer-friendly solution...he still called the misdeal but had the dealer pay the Trips bet payouts. Not good for the house, but very friendly for the players.
