I work for an MGM property and the rumor mill is starting up again.
I'm in the security dept and we are NON union---which stinks.
Everybody is saying the Bellagio security dept has gone union.
Can't get confirmation---and we are also hearing it's another property.
    Who knows?
ANY security dept. in MGM going union would be great.
    Does anybody have any info?

You could contact the union themselves and find out. They're usually quite proud whenever they organize anyone.

I thought about doing that...only problem is to find WHICH union.
Years ago when this happened, it wasn't the SAME union as the rest of the employees.
This has potential to make this an acceptable paying job.
    We really need a union.
    Any suggestions?
Anybody from a property wanna ask the next security guard they see while on shift---and just ask if they've heard the same thing?
    Thanks in advance

Might be easier to run over to the Bellagio on your day off and ask a couple guys.

Exactly what I was thinking. And you would get more additional info on what is happening.

Meanwhile, you know if there is a union, you will have to pay them dues. They may or may not get you better wages. And, of course, those wages have to come from somewhere. Though the feds are able to print money, businesses have yet to figure out how to do that.

OK, I watched this thread and just have to pipe in.

Yes, you have to pay dues and in all studies/polls it has been shown that Union workers earn more than non-union workers, with a few, rare exceptions. But beside that, the Union gives you protection from an organized group stand point, that one individual can't possibly do alone.

Yes, I'm biased. I was in a Union for 35 years and a steward for 12 years.

Mods, Ok, fell free to give me another hand slap demerit, but I don't think this falls under a political discussion.

I think the point was being union doesn't guarantee you'll be happier.

it's possible you are hoping and praying to get unionized and then it happens and you wish it hadn't.

unions are like any organized group: one size doesn't fit all and some people fit better than others.

depends on the union and your own needs.

    that's all.

ANY sort of union has GOT to be better than what we have now---which is NOTHING.
I'm willing to pay dues for some sort of protection.
We are the only dept in the casinos that are required by law to be there in order to be open for business.
