Thanks for the info. Not to fan the flames again, but I just added the following little comment where the link took me:

I fully support hotels (all businesses) being able to charge what they want. But as already posted, "They REALLY need to be taken to task like the airlines were - and be forced to clearly divulge ALL the costs of staying at the hotel." Even when disclosed in the fine print or otherwise, adding a mandatory fee onto the room charge (IMHO) is deceptive!

Sad thing is, I've seen Circus Circus offer rates at what their resort fee is bumping up to. Basically doubling their rate in fees alone. Wow...

    This is just ridiculous.

Historically I've only stayed at MGM props (& the Cosmopolitan back when they didn't have a resort fee).

I just booked a trip for March and a trip for May at Treasure Island.

    Resort fees optional.

Well who didn't know this was coming after CET made ALL of their hotels $25.

Are resorts fees optional at ti in general or do you have status?

I'm not a fan of resorts fees but I'm also not one to alter where I want to stay based on a few dollars. I'm not sure how people can stop these fees (most likely they can't). I'd be really curious to see a hotel on the strip advertise the hell out of $0 resort fees like Southwest does for bag fees and see what, if any, impact it would have.

I am curious about this as well. TI is one of the few strip hotels I have not stayed at. Perhaps it is time to give it a try....

TI's player offers give you the resort fee option. It's one of those emails that is "only for player (name + card number)"

Give them some play and you will get the offer, I haven't played there in 2 years and still get the emails.

Wow. In other words, MGM is saying they're not in the same league as CET.

Lions Share finally hit, gotta get that money somewhere else.

Have to admit, I really don't mind MGM's resort fees, they have never said they will never have it, only to start putting them on like CET did.

Actually Harrahs (at the time) did advertise the "no resort fee" thing but eventually came around to charging the fees. I think what was happening was that they had a hard time competing with other strip hotels because their nightly rates appeared to be higher than the other hotels. The other hotels didn't have to raise their nightly rates because they could put it in the resort fees so on internet searches it appeared that they have the lowest rates to unsuspecting people.
