I know the gun has to be in hard case with lock. I put the lock on but with some pull a person could still get to the gun.
Would this be good enough in a checked bag? How picky are they?
Can you just set the ammo in the cases it is sold in , in a checked bag?
I thought I would put gun in one checked bag and ammo in the other. I am flying SWA from
    Des Moines to Vegas non-stop.

    Thanks for any help

Double check with SWA, but I don't think that the ammo is allowed ...

Thanks I read SWA policy and I have lesss than 11# of ammo. Gun policies are the same as TSA rules.
Curious how fussy they get on the lock on the hard case for the gun. Curious on anyone who
    has done this.

Be a whole lot easier if I could juts buy the handgun in Vegas but one can only buy in the state of residence.

Checking a firearm is quick and painless.

As you said needs to be in a locked hard sided case. You declare it and they watch you open it and show them it's unloaded with no ammo in the case. You lock it back up and off it goes. You pick it up on the other side.

Might be easier to just carry the gun with you - use the $20 trick to get thru security......

My husband has a (real? I guess) bullet on his keychain and the only place he's ever had an issue is at the airport in Vegas. They just about attacked him when we went through security. He's been through JFK, LAX and Atlanta with no issues. If you're gong to have an issue, I'd expect it to be there.

    lol, pretty good.

Article in this morning's paper about how many firearms TSA confiscates from the security lines. It amazes me how unaware people are about that.

I'd even take that one step further... it amazes me how unaware (clueless) people are about most things.

As one who despises firearms, I can't imagine why anyone would want to own one, let alone take one to Las Vegas!!!???

Unless you're hunting rattlesnakes and camping in the desert, I'd leave your gun at home.

    That's helpful.

Please bear in mind that our police force has no sense of humor when it comes to guns. Enjoy your trip.

I suggest black or red or something really manly. Boxers preferred
