Im going to Aria in March 2015 and want to play some poker at the hotel. Is it correct that the minimum buy in is $100 at the 1/3 nl table? What is the maximum buyin? Do people use to buy in for $100 or more? Is it difficult to "get a place" at a 1/3 table? :)

Max is $300 for 1/3. If you are just having fun and are going to buy in for $100 then your okay. But if you take the game a little seriously and only buy in for $100, I suggest finding a 1/2 game instead. Monte Carlo is right next door. Or buy in for at least $200 at 1/3

My friends that play this game always buy in for $300. Not sure $100 is going to last you very long unless you hit some good pots early

Actually, if this is your first time playing live and if you're new to the game in general buying in short is not the worst thing you can do. It will make most of your decisions pretty simple { raise pre flop and then push the rest of it in on the flop if the board warrants it}.

Some people will say that playing with 100 bb is not deep period but you'll definitely avoid a lot of tough spots buying in short {30 bb or less} Don't worry about the short stack haters. Its not the most fun way to play the game but it can be efficient if you if you have a small range pre flop and are able to get the rest of in against looser players on the flop.

Question is what do you do when you've doubled up twice?????

depends on your strategy how much money want to "behind" you.
i remember a short stack strategy from east european players.
    raise - re-raise - all in
but that worked only online, because after a double up they switched tables.

If this is your first time playing live or you're new to poker, I would suggest finding an easier room than the Aria. I would avoid Venetian and Aria... and to a lesser extent Bellagio if I were you. Those rooms tend to have the best players. The Wynn is hit or miss, IMO. Sometimes the field is terrible players; sometimes the field is good players.

Harrahs, Bally, Mirage, Flamingo... those are easier rooms to cut up. You'll spot the locals quickly but those locals tend to be pretty bad poker players. Real gamblers.

Personally, I don't believe in short stacking myself when sitting down at poker by buying in for significantly less than the max. If I don't win the first few hands I play, I could become easily pot committed in a hand that I got too deep into.

Basically, when being short stacked, you depend much more on luck than you do on skill. But, that's my own preference.

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

I'll second that that suggestion. $100 won't get you far, since quite a few are at $300 or higher.

Monte Carlo is probably a better choice, if you fall into that casual or new category. Short distance away, since it's connected to Aria. Aria always strikes me as stiff. Not for competition, but for personality. Most of the players and dealers there are about as fun as watching paint dry. It's great looking and well run, but I enjoy myself more somewhere else.

Very true, however if you can get the bankroll together before your trip 1/3 can be a very profitable-high action game.

We all have similar stories. Mine is a casino in Dubuque, bought in for $200 because I didn't want to start short-stacked, about the third hand I'm in the big blind a had AA. I raised, another guy raised, another went all-in and I snap called... couldn't get my money in fast enough with AA. He had KK... and flopped KAK.

I didn't have more money allocated for additional gambling (poker or otherwise) so I had to sit like a dufus for an hour before the tournament started... they badgered my friends to leave as soon as we were all out of the tournament.

I stick with limit poker or tournaments for bankroll reasons. I am a better NL player, but I have a limit poker bankroll.

I always say low limit hold 'em is a bad idea unless you're just looking for free drinks. Very tough to beat consistently unless you are really proficient at limit hold 'em which requires tremendous concentration and I have very little patience for it. No-limit is much more forgiving in that area.

Tournaments are the best play if you don't have a big bankroll.

I would have thought that even "suited" that would be the easiest fold ever, you have 3 people in the pot @ $15 each and the blinds to act behind you.

Even with your dream flop which you almost never get you are in a world of pain with higher straight draws, higher flush draws(if 2 same suit on flop), and of course your FH draw.

I hope you dont still call in these scenarios cos u are on the button, might be best position on the table but also best pos to lose a stack of cash.

I personally didn't wanna say it, this is true. Calling multi-way with non-suiter gappers is way behind the majority of the time.

I agreed. That was my first thought as well. My second thought was "you played 2-4 for a raise preflop with three other players and you're surprised you lost all of your money?"

I've never played limit in Vegas, only tournaments. I play 3/6 limit at Potawatomi because I have more control of when I decide to leave... usually that's when I'm plus. Eventually there will be a decent enough pot that I will win, then I yawn and say "time to leave".

I have run a $100 buy in up to over $1000 many many times, with that said I always want to give my self the most amount of chips I can buy in for, with $100 buyin your going to be forced with all in or fold in most spots post flop and you take away the option to reraise in a lot of spots where someone is going to fold
