My buddies and I only go once per year and always on NFL Championship weekend (free extra day off work with MLK Day that Monday) and we've settled into the following routine for our 3 day excursion:

    1) Arrive Saturday morning, depending on time to kill before check-in, hit up the Pinball Hall of Fame for ab hour of retro video game action (nerdy, I know).
    2) Stay at the Golden Nugget. We used to stay on the strip, but recently switched to Downtown since that is where we like to gamble. Less stuffy, low table minimums, and easy to hop casino to casino if the table are cold. Grab dinner at a nice sit down restaurant and then hit the tables until we pass out.
    3) Head out to Sams Town, grab the $6.95 (with B Connected card) breakfast buffet and then hit the 10am hold'em tournament for $23. Throw down some bets on the NFC/AFC games and sit back and watch some football all day. Mix in some craps at halftime or if the game is out of hand.
    4) Head back downtown, shower, grab dinner, and gamble the night away
    5) Monday we usually hit up some local celebrity spot - in the past we've hit Gold & Silver Pawn and are going to hit Kounts Kustoms this year. We ran into Horny Mike at The D last year and chatted for an hour - great dude.

Do you have any routine you generally follow? Always looking to mix it up, but what I described works really well for us (5-6 guys aged 38-47).

Yes, check in hotel Diamond office.....take bags to room, hang up a few clothes to help with the wrinkles.....RUN to the casino for 1st drink & machine. Sure don't want to waste precious LV time ....lol.

Then, we meet up with whoever our trip companions may be to decide where to eat since we are usually starving after a 4+ hour flight......usually do the Buffet of Buffets to begin the trip and dinner will always be either PH or Rio. After that - we just gamble & drink until the wee hours to celebrate finally being in Mecca. Other than a show or 2 during our 6 day trip, we just fly by the seat of our pants....doing whatever, whenever. Oh...the joy!!

    ...drink, gamble, eat, repeat....

...always do alot of pre-trip planning. Try to check out something new (recently opened) and something I haven't done/seen before in previous trips. But of course, there are all the constants for every (Downtown) trip...Chicago Brewing for VP, beers and garlic knots; 777 for apps and beers; Boars Head bar for beers and VP; a few sessions of LIR and wandering each casino to find my favorite slot (Hex Breaker)...

We used to stop first at EI for the cheap steak until we got too old to chew it. Or else it got tougher. I get up super early to gamble, then usually hit the elliptical if I am losing, then get my wife up for a late breakfast. The rest of the day always varies a lot.

Mine usually involved getting drunk during the day and playing VP, followed by blackjack and craps in the evening, usually just at my home casino. There are some things I do on almost every trip (dinner at Picasso and VP at Lift Bar) and some that I do on most trips (drinks/dinner at Foundation Room and/or Stack), but I never really do much planning other than a dinner reservation or two. Otherwise the aforementioned day-drinking just ruins the plan anyway!

Land early afternoon on a Thursday, politely but firmly tell the cabbie to use the streets and not the highway, check into whichever CET property comped me, bring a beer to the room so I can iron while intoxicated, go downstairs and gamble, crush a dinner buffet, look for a woman who is "playing the Vegas card" (i.e., lying about her name, her hometown, her job...everything.)

    Check-in, eat, unpack and shower.
After that, gamble and drink until we leave.
Walk the strip and pop in and visit each casino.

first stop is always in-n-out  my routine is not quite a vegas-y routine since my dad always picks me up from the airport. it's more of a family visit until we actually get to our hotel (which may be a few days later depending on how we set up our schedule). so our arrival usually isn't what i count as "arriving in vegas". but once we're checking in to our hotel, the very first thing we do is make a drink in the room while unpacking and stare out our window at vegas. such a good feeling

I'm up early every day and play slots for a few hours, get breakfast, go for a swim (if warm enough), walk on the strip / people watch, nap, shower, dinner and two shows, sleep and repeat.

My bro-in-law have been going to vegas for playoff football for 11 years (Jan will make number 12). There used to be a larger group, but it was too complicated (too many opinions) for such a short trip.
in 2011 we switched to the divisional round of football so we could catch 4 games vs. 2 (and added a night to the stay). this year we'll be there for Championship weekend due to scheduling conflicts (wifey birthday) but we'll probably revert back to divisional round in years to come.

I digress. In 2010 I made an itinerary for some people at my work. they always asked 'what do you do in vegas'.
some things have changed since 2010 (i.e. add friday night BJ and Craps at the D and GG, replace Fitz with D, and no more .99c shrimp cocktail -- and it's pretty much on target)!
    From 2010:

    Saturday:
    2:30 Land
    3:30 Arrive at Fitz
    4:00 Craps at Fitz
5:30 Dinner at Golden Gate (.99c Shrimp Cocktail)
    6:00 Blackjack at Golden Gate
8:00 Wonder aimlessly around Fremont St.
8:30 Craps and BJ @ Fitz
    ? - bed

    Sunday:
    10:00 - Binions Poker Tourney
12:00 (or when tourney ends) - AFC Championship Game (777 Brew)
3:40 NFC Championship Game (location TBD)
7:00 Dinner at Golden Gate (.99c Shrimp Cocktail)
    7:30 Blackjack at Golden Gate
9:30 Wonder aimlessly around Fremont St.
10:00 Craps and BJ @ Fitz
    ? - bed

Love craps at the GG - that's our spot. Last year we were on a table from probably 5 hours, minimums went up from $5 to $10 after we were there a couple hours and the dealer was cool with us sticking with $5 if we wanted - people walking up and throwing down $5 were pissed we were allowed to do it, but the dealer politely told them "These guys have been here for hours, they can bet whatever they want. You need to bet at least $10."

I usually only play BJ @ the GG, but last month I rolled dice a few times - I met up w/ some people I'd met on a previous trip and that was their game. I had a great time and walked out w/ a little in my pocket.
My play is pretty much limited to GG and the D. I love both places.

I don't necessarily have a set routine but there are certain casinos, restaurants and attractions I always go to at least once during every trip. These include but not limited to:

    Attractions/stores:
    The Pinball HoF & Museum
    Zia Records

    Restaurants:
    In n out Burger
    Hard Rock Cafe
This pizza place at NYNY that I cannot remember the name of

    Casinos:
    Planet Hollywood
    GVR and/or Red Rock
    Palms
    Hard Rock
    South Point
    various downtown casinos

Also, I always rent a car whenever I'm in LV. One thing i like to do is take an afternoon and go for a drive in the desert. It's a chance to see a part of the country that I don't get to see very often. Past road trips have included:

    Historic Route 66 in Arizona
    Red Rock Canyon
    Valley of Fire State Park
    Ghost Town of Rhyolite
The Little A'le Inn in Rachel near Area 51

    "Maiden Vegas" UP THE IRONS!
    1st time at Luxor

We only have one set routine: My wife and I always walk through the Golden Nugget to play the Texas Tea over by the Carson Tower. She had an awesome oil rig bonus a while back that was so much fun that we go back to see if we can do it again. No luck so far, lol!

Other than that, we have "loose" routines that we like to do but won't shit our pants if we don't get to it. Some of them include:

    Red Rock Casino
    Sunset Station/Galleria Mall
    Silverton/Bass Pro Shops
    Suncoast
    Orleans/Gold Coast
South Strip (MGM to Mandalay Bay)
    Bellagio

We almost always stay Downtown. Another routine we do is catch the shuttle to Sam's Town, then catch the shuttle there to the Strip to visit places near Harrahs like Venetian/Palazzo. We do some light gambling here and there and then we catch the same shuttle service back to Downtown.

My main ritual isn't really much of a ritual. Once I get checked in, I head up to my room to drop off my stuff and then I check out the room--see where stuff is, make sure the main things work, see if I've got a view of something other than rooftop machinery, etc. Then I take pictures of the room for my eventual trip report, hopefully before I've messed the room up much.

After that, it's down to the casino where I circle like a shark, looking for my favorite machines and for new ones that look interesting. If one of those is open, I'll sit down and try my luck. That usually inspires me to get up and go out to the strip.

The statement made on paying for a stranger's meal, actually happened to myself and my daughter once! We were in The Mirage, eating in a nice Japenese restaurant. We were all around a table, socializing with a man celebrating his daughter's birthday. When we went to pay, it had been paid by him. I thanked him. It was such a nice thing to do.
