    My Trip Report

I'm off to Vegas on Sunday for my 5th trip of the year. Trip #24. So far I'm 3-1 on the year. This will be another solo trip.

This time I have 3 nights booked at the Plaza thanks to an offer match. It's my first time staying there, so it will be interesting to compare things between the Plaza and my usual downtown home Main Street Station. I decided to give them a shot due to the room remodel a couple years ago and the improved video poker. I'm still trying to hit my first downtown royal flush.

The next three nights I will be staying at Sam's Town. If you read my last trip report you will know that this place was really good to me. Hopefully the luck there continues.

This is followed up by two nights booked at Circus Circus thanks to MyVegas. I have the LPs for a better hotel, but decided to save them for another trip. It will be nice staying somewhere I don't feel obligated to play at. I will probably use the opportunity for a side trip to Red Rock or the Palms.

Again, I booked a one way flight to Vegas. If the bankroll holds I might stretch things out a little further. The late October/Early November plan allows me to maximize the hotel comps. My gambling budget is a couple K. Most of it will be dedicated to VP with a little bit of craps and live poker mixed in.

If anyone from VegasMessageBoard wants to meet up, PM me. I'm always up for meeting some new people to drink and gamble with.

I'll try to do daily updates if the free wifi and sanity allow.

Good luck during your Vegas travels,
    Adam

Best of luck on hitting that downtown royal. Last trip I got one at MSS and got a $5 scratch card as a result. I can't wait to be back. Sounds like we will be in town at the same time but you will already be out at Sam's.

Thanks. Good luck to you as well.

Thanks. If the trip goes well I'll probably see you and the wife in Vegas after Christmas.

At the Seattle/Tacoma airport enjoying a couple drinks and watching the turnover frenzy that is the Hawks/Panthers game. Boarding in a few.

The flight was fine and I caught the bus downtown for 2 bucks. Checked in to the Plaza around 5pm. The room is about on par with what I'm used to at MSS. Nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. The TV isn't turning on, so I'll need to figure that out tomorrow. South Tower room facing the corner of Fremont St and Main Street.

So far I've done 3k coin in on VP, breaking dead even. One STFL and a half dozen or so 4OAKS. I'm going to try to get to 5k before I crash tonight.

They moved the shoot to win craps machine to the side of the casino near the pizza place. It used to be next to the poker room. I played it for about a half hour by myself. No foot traffic over there so I doubt it's going to be playing it much.Broke even on that as well, before grabbing a slice of pizza. Not bad for 4 bucks, but the Pizza joint over by the Grand is way better minus the ability to purchase a single slice. The poker room was full for their evening tourny. Might have to hit that up tomorrow night.

You talking about Pizza Rock by the Grand? They had pizza by the slice when we were there in July.

Last night started off pretty well, I was dealt a king high straight flush in hearts. I really wanted to go for the royal, but figured I better stick with the math. The rest of the night unfortunately was a bleed. Started at quarters and slowly worked towards dollars without hitting a 4OAK. Finally cashed out around 12:30. Down $400 for the day. I hit 5k coin in for the night.

A couple notes on the Plaza:

First, my room has a really good wifi connection. It's free, and you don't have to give your room number. It's included in the resort fee and as expected comp stays don't pay it. MSS makes even comp visitors pay 10 bucks. Watched episode 3 of season 5 of the Walking Dead this morning without any slowdown.

Cocktail service yesterday was a lot better then during my last trip to downtown. The CW came by so often I could have got fall down drunk if that was my goal.

I miss the lack of scratch tickets that MSS gives out for 4OAKs or better. Hopefully I get a return trip offer that makes up for that. I'm going to charge at least 1 meal at Hash House A Go Go to my room and try to get it nixed from my bill. While things have certainly improved drastically, the Plaza still has a much smaller selection of good video poker.

Points accumulate at a pretty good rate. 3 dollars coin in = 1 point. 1250 points equals $5 cash. There's no reduction for playing 99%+ or the two 100%+ 10/7 DB machines.

The bed in my room is really firm. Fine for me, but If you like a soft mattress you might want to look elsewhere.

The plan for today is to try and meet Curt, give the Plaza at least as much play as yesterday, watch Monday Night Football and try the bartop. Lets hope for a reversal.

I think Pizza Rock has become a new tradition for us. Taking four slices back to the room on our last night to pack up the suitcases.
    Hopefully today will be better.

Well FINALLY!!!! Someone is actually posting about downtown. Most I read here is about how they take 10 grand and blow it at Wynns or Ballagio--the upper class places that cost you a run through of like 30,000 to get a buffet. I'm just being a smart ass but, I wish more people would put more into downtown and try to get a good gamble for your $$$. Have a great trip and keep up the reports! The wife and I wanna try staying there in March--either at the Plaza or Nugget. I'm a VP player also--can't wait for the Plaza to be honest.

Yah, it's definitely good. If the Plaza doesn't come through with the food comps I'm probably going to walk over and grab a couple slices.

Thanks. Lots of us are looking for the best bang for the buck. Downtown and off strip is where it's at. Try reading one of Royal Flusher's trip reports.

That's not TERRIBLE...is it PURE CASH BACK?
Does it get better the higher your card level?
    That equates to $1 per $750 coin-in
    MSS gives you $1 per $1000/$500/$300 (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald) coin-in.

No reduction for 10/7 DB makes it better than MSS. 4Q is the king of cash back but the Plaza is certainly getting more appealing. Looks like Plaza King and higher tier get a multiplier but only for reels. VP is always $3 per point.

I went on a frenzy this morning. Started playing quarters, switched to 50 cent then dollars. Almost had a repeat of yesterday, I was down almost $500 bucks before hitting 4 4s for $400. I switched to 50 cent and hit 4s again, then 3s. Cashed out $200 ahead.

At 4pm I stopped by the host office. I figured 12k coin in on VP (less than 24 hours since check in) might be good for something. Curt isn't in until tomorrow, so I talked to another host. I was told that my play was "a little light"... Maybe I could get something knocked off if I charged it to my room, but they expect 6-8k a day just to cover the room. Comps are based mostly on theo, not coin in. She couldn't really give me any hard numbers beyond that, she just said 6-8 hours a day... Well this sucks, I thought to myself. The club desk at MSS would've given me a couple buffets as a discretionary comp no problem. I also passed up a $20 food voucher and scratch tickets to give the Plaza a shot. I decided to head to Subway since she mentioned I could charge Subway to my room. They don't... Had to pay cash.

At this point I was kind of pissed off, so I figured I would walk over to MSS. I spent a few hours there going up and down playing the DB and bartop. 3.5k coin in. Caught part of the game, said hi to Jose and ran into Marian, a gambler from Arizona who I met on a previous trip. I probably talked to at least a half dozen people while playing various machines there. Everyone is always so friendly. I left MSS another $50 ahead and headed over to the California to give my lucky $1 DB machine a shot. I was down about a hundo before hitting a 4OAK. I left California $400 ahead for the day, even for the trip.

Headed back to the Plaza and lost a hundo on VP, broke even playing a little shoot to win craps. Probably going to cool it on the Plaza until I talk to Curt tomorrow. I'm still not clear if tier credits are based on coin in or points earned. If it's points earned i'm not going to bother giving them much more play. I would need 75k in coin in just to earn king status playing VP. 25k coin in would be doable, but do I really want to give them that much action if I get nothing beyond a room comp? Hopefully Curt can clear a few things up.

Up $300 for the day, down $100 for the trip. I'll probably head back to MSS tonight to do a few more k so I don't hurt my daily coin in there.

It's pure cash, You can also choose freeplay at the same rate, but what's the point of that?
