Before you check out. Once you have PAID for stuff, it is hard for them to take it off.

Yup...the proper way I found out, at CET properties.
Is to go to the hotel desk and check-out, but when you do, AS YOUR checking-out, say "Can you please call a host to review my play, to see if they can take care of any of my room charges?"
See, I went to the TR desk & Host Office, and both said same thing, you MUST go to hotel desk, to have THEM call a host.

What do you do if your checkout is 6am and nobody is available? Do it the night before?

Yes, I've done it the night before. I also had them hold off on charging me once until a host was available even though I'd already checked out.

I've never used a host before, but I think I would go see them the night before I checked out. Mainly to give myself time to do it and make sure there was someone who I could see. I would think the hosts would be busy in the mornings with others trying to do the same thing.

Unless you have a dedicated host, then just shoot them a message.

They can always refund charges to your credit card if you've already checked out.

Harder if you paid cash and have already left.

I wouldn't do the front desk, at least not at CET. Instead I would go to the host office. I say that thinking that our bankrolls are about the same. I had a large bill the morning I checked out and it was a morning that my regular host was off. I just walked into the host office and got one "in training". The person training her looked at my play, walked the trainee through the process and every single item on my bill was comped off, including tips, which I had expected to pay. My regular host is great. He had a birthday cake and champagne delivered for my birthday and did some other nice things that I did not expect. The experience with the host in training, however, confirmed for me that the primary focus is on the numbers/theo. I should add that the night before my trip I won the most I had ever won in a trip to Vegas . . . over a twenty year period. But, because I had played as much as I did (VP and slots) and my theo was probably pretty high, my charges were comped off; about $2500 after close to a week-long trip. I brought about $1k a day for my bankroll but I had a LOT of "churn" so to speak.

On top of what everyone has said I will add that it would be best for you to have your host review those charges (and not just using the host on duty), because the HOD at Mlife properties have been known to just say "sorry" to a guest regarding charges when the player has had a winning trip. Your host who I assume already knows you should do it the right way and that is to comp you based on your theo ... without regard to whether or not you won $$$ on that particular trip.

I thought CET wouldn't do back end comp, they just use your reward credit to cover charges unless you are a High Roller.

I am seven stars but am not a high roller. CET without question does back end comps but yes, they will use reward credits first. So, the night before I just convert mine to FSP or do something else with them. Even if they did use them, however, usually what I have in reward credits pales in comparison to my charges during a las vegas trip. A couple of weeks ago I played a lot in AC and lost and had basically no charges because the seven stars lounge was sufficient. I picked up two Vera Bradley bags I liked, charged them to the room, and the host on duty comped them off. I liked them enough to pay cash for them so if that hadn't happened it would have been fine, especially as I had a 25% seven stars discount, but getting them comped off on the back end was nice.

And I agree RC, dealing with your own host is better than dealing with a random host, but I've had now two experiences with CET hosts that I didn't know and both experiences were very positive.

I thought that the OP was asking about Mlife (Aria).

Yup, I've had some charges comped off after check-out. There are days when my host isn't at work the days before my checkout or the day of, so they usually take care of when it they're back at work. For me this was at the Cosmo.

Thank you so much everyone. I'm heading back this Thurs.. Staying at Bellagio. All your input is definitely informative. I only communicate with my host through email and text. I am a bit shy on how to address my play and comp returns upon checking out.

Once when I had played a lot, I went looking for my host for a meal comp. I settled for the HOD, got a comp, but later got a kind of negative vibe from my host as if she had wanted it all to go through her. As for doing it at checkout, another way might be less stressful, plus you're not holding people up who are trying to check out and get somewhere.

Most if not all folks are a bit shy or not knowledgeable enough to speak to the host about COMPs, whether it be upfront or in the back-end. After a couple of times, it becomes the norm. I believe the best way to get the most out of it is to learn and know how to calculate your THEO. that way, you should know exactly or around ball park where you stand for back-end/discretionary COMPs when you check out.

Depends on where you stay. At the smaller (read: some downtown) casinos, they are more flexible and a host can take charges off, but you will need to have paid by CC.

What about comped rooms for a lowly platinum player at CET if a host books it for you, are you most likely still going to have to pay resort fees?
This has made me rethink staying with CET if they do.
