They're place the 6 and 8 for six dollars, since placing those 2 point numbers pays 7:6

Those are place bets. And even though it's a $5 table, you need to bet in $6 units for the correct payout. Placing 4,5, 9 and 10 can be done in $5 increments. Also if you're always doing 3x odds be aware of the correct payout. $5 on the pass with a point of 5 or 9 needs to have an even amount since the odds pay 3:2. In your case, $14 or $16 would be the closest to true 3x odds on 5 or 9.

can because placing those pays 3:2 on five and Nine or 9:5 for four and ten

Correction, a place bet of $5 on the number five or nine would pay....$7 for every $5 bet....

you CAN place the 6/8 for $5...but you're only going to get even money...
Everything is in $5 increments except the 6/8 (which are in $6 increments).
If you just want to keep it simple, bet a $5 pass line with $10 odds (will work on any number as the point)
Then if you want to expand, bet a $6 6 or 8, or both.

As you can see, your questions on craps are being answered by very knowledgeable players here on VMB. I suggest that you ask as much questions here as possible before leaving this weekend. The members here are willing to share knowledge and to help you become one of us....total degenerates! :poke::thumbsup:

Have fun on your trip. Write a trip report when you get back. One more tip: take it easy initially at the tables. Watch, listen, and learn. Good dealers will pick up that you're relatively new and will help you. You'll be surprised how fast you'll grab the gist of the game.

Good Luck! Win lots of money!

Sorry to hijack but more newbie questions. If I play the don't, after the come out do I put my odds chips below the passline just like pass with odds, or do they go somewhere else? And 3-4-5 odds tables have a 6x odds on don't, correct? And are bets like hard-ways, field bets, other one-offs just $1 minimum (obviously playing the table minimum elsewhere), does that vary depending on the table minimums?

    Thanks!

Lay bets go next to your don't, just tell the dealer closest that you want to Lay XXX and he/she will show you where

You also need to watch out for your odds bets. odds bets for the 5 and 9 you bet even numbers (pays $3 for every $2 bet). If you put down $5 on the pass you should put down $14 or $16 for a 3x bet on the 5 or 9.

As others have said, placing the 6 and 8 would pay 7:6 (you put down $6 to win $7) so best to place $6 for the 6 or 8. Putting down $5 would only pay even money ($5) so for you to get the most out of your bets you should put down increments of $6 when placing the 6 and 8

Tell them you want odds on your don't pass, and you can stack them next to your don't pass bet in the same section of the table.

Lay bets are technically placed above the place number bets.

6x your don't pass should be the maximum at the 3-4-5 table.

Usually $1 is the min for most tables, but I've been some places where $5 was the minimum in the middle (higher minimum game, like $100 min games).
