Headed to Vegas again in oct for 3nights. I called my host to let her know and to get my stay comped. I'm going with some friends so mentioned to her that I needed 2 rooms again. She knows that not everyone I go with will be playing like myself so she ask me if I rather just get an upgrade to a sky suite. She offered me 2nights comped, limo transportation, and food credit daily....based on my table play in all my precious trips I know that the food and 3rd night will be taken care of easily....my questions is that I just told my buddies I got the sky suite so now a buddy is asking if his bro-in law can come too?!? What would you guys say? Am I being stupid....or do you guys feel like certain for friends take advantage of your comps

I would say "Sure he can come, but he will need to get his own room"

Just because you are getting a comped room doesnt mean you should pack as many people in as possible.

People can only take advantage of them if you let them! If you don't say no or make buddy get his own room this is all on you my friend. Luckily for me all me Vegas associates are degenerate gamblers. In fact I am sometimes taking advantage of their comps (Beejay).

In addition I say this to them. "If I get you rooms I don't pay for gas or parking at airport. I don't pay for a meal (regular price not fancy steak house) or a drink or a cab fare anywhere. Not once and this better not be an issue. No alligator arms when it's time to pay!" And if they don't like that deal then they can pay for their own hotels and you all evenly split the minor expenses as they appear.

As has been said exhaustively, Comps aint free! We lose a lot of money getting this free stuff!!!!!

Some of this depends on if the buddy is asking for his brother in law simply because of the Sky Suite? Or is he asking because he would have been asking either way? IE: He was sitting around a family dinner the other night and said "I am going to Las Vegas in October" and then his brother in law asked "Hey, sounds great, mind if I come along?"

And some of its probably how you sell it too: if you are pitching it to them like "Hey guys, I have our rooms and food all covered, plus limo to and from the airport" if you make it sound like its no big deal for you to get it all taken care of it then they are all going to take it the same way, that its no big deal you got it all covered and in that case maybe they are taking advantage of your comps, but if thats how you are selling it then what more can you expect?

In the end at least he is asking and not just bringing the guy and hoping you can make an accommodation for him, that you can still at least say no.

My first response is - let me see what kind of room rate I can get for you. (meaning I AM NOT PAYING YOUR WAY).

As to meals - I always say, let me charge it to my room as I can usually get a decent discount. Hey, just pick up the tip and I will take care of the meal.

Back to the skysuite - are the sleeping arrangements okay?

    Very simple.

Sure, he's welcome to come, we will need his credit card for the incidentals on the room though. Gas, grass or ass, no one rides for free!!

This describes my approach. "Yes, I can get our room, food, and beverage picked up. I will ask you to pay for EVERY other expense we incur, including tips, and yeah we will probably have a meal, drink, or two outside the empire we happen to be staying in. I don't expect to have to talk about this during the trip, and it will turn out to be a great deal for you." Anyone who balks at this upfront can get their own room and we can split food bills along the way, which is a guaranteed pain in the ass, and that person winds up paying way more. Anyone who agreed to this up front has followed through and gotten a great deal out of it. I think the key is not to tell people, hey, I can get everything comped in Vegas upfront--tell them what sort of a deal you are willing to work out with them. 10 years ago I used to just pick up everything including tips while I risked 5 figures. My friends whose trip bankroll was one hand for me basically had a completely free trip at my expense. No more.

If it's the latter. then the friend should have said right away that he was staying with a friend and it wasn't a trip he was planning on his own. It irks me when people try to get you to invite people you wouldn't have invited on your own to a trip or event you are organizing. It's the OP's show so any extra space there should be for folks the OP wanted to invite.

I have felt like people want to take advantage of my little low roller comps. They push me to take trips when I Vegas isn't in my plans because they assume I can get free rooms and they always want to burn up any comps I've banked if we go together. It's not like they won't help pay other expenses but it's a lot to ask for me to cover the room and then cover food too. I stopped telling people I am going unless they are welcome to come. I only let people know about every fourth trip I take.

Did your friends take care of some expenses for you last trip? If yes and the room can handle another person than probably ok as long as the new person knows the rules of crashing in someone's comped room. If no than these friends need thier own room at thier own expense..and find out about it on check-in if there was only a way you could swing that.

I have a coworker who enjoys going to Vegas too - he knows that I usually get 3-4 comp nights when I go and a few days ago he mentioned that him, 2 of his friends and myself should go to Vegas together in the Spring, which was fine. He then followed it up with "I'm counting on you to get the free room, then we'll only need to pay for 1 so all 4 of us can each have a bed".

Really? Upset me and really makes me not want to go with any of them anymore. I really don't even know the other 2 guys so him assuming that one of them (or even himself) could maybe stay with me was inappropriate IMO.

I know how you feel david (at a low roller level, mind you) and at some point you just have to let them know upfront what the deal is...

Tell them to go f themselves and go by yourself. They're going to keep mooching off you until you make it stop.

One thing that you all have to realize is that many of these "freeloaders" dont understand what it takes to get comps
They ASSUME that anyone who gambles in the casino gets a free room.

Im not saying there are not freeloaders, Im saying that a lot of them just dont get it.
Thats why making a deal upfront and letting them know what is expected of them is important

Ive comped many moochers in the past, so long as they expressed gratitude and didnt act like moochers
like making an attempt to pay for some other stuff, which I often declined just because,
I am generally cool with it.

Just put their credit card down for the incidentals. If they dont make things right, go down to the gift shop/retail outlet before checkout and buy a nice pair of shades or two. If they say anything, just mention the room and you figured that was fair.

I get this feeling many times. When I have an extra room the first question I get is do you have food comp also. Really, a free suite at Cosmo (wrap around) isn't enough. I've actually had people turn down the free suite because they had to pay for there own meals. We're talking about a $800-$1100 a night suite on the weekends. I just don't get some people.

    Great point.
I have straightened most of my friends out on this subject by saying I can check with my host on getting you a discounted room rate.
Setting the ground rules from the beginning prevents problems on the trip.
Telling them comps have tightened up in the casinos is not being dishonest.
If I have extra comps available I'll cover the meal and ask them to cover the tip in cash. If not, we split the check evenly.

Most of my friends are good about it, a lot of them will except a comp room at another property which is nice.
The only exception is my wife, she will bring her friends on my comp expense ( but I tolerate this so her friends can run interference as I gamble) haha
