Well it's finally settled and Steve Wynn will be building a new casino here in Massachusetts, just having been awarded the Boston area license.

Mohegan Sun and Suffolk Downs lost out for a variety of reasons. In reality Mohegan, having a casino in Connecticut barely an hour away would be slicing its own pie further. At least Wynn has the chance to develop new clientele. Plus he has deeper pockets and better bathroom amenities.

The sad part here is the loss of Suffolk Downs. It's been barely hanging on for many years as the locals have urbanized and lost their interest in horse racing. The NO vote from East Boston didn't help. Lots of jobs lost and very soon. However lots of construction and eventually gaming jobs gained when the new casino opens.

It won't be a net gain for the State in the end though I bet. Massachusetts is one of the most lottery addicted States in the nation, around $1500 per capita on scratch tickets, Keno, numbers, etc. A portion of that will be lost to the casinos as the economy here sucks, taxes are high and few people have excess discretionary income. Good times in the short term but probably not what anyone promised.

Hope for the best though! Plan your 2017 trips now!

Ugh, I was hoping for Suffolk Downs. Everett is such an armpit, there's been ongoing construction for years. Yuck. What a shitshow

2017? In Massachusetts? Let's wait for the ballot question in November. Then if casino gambling is not repealed...... Maybe 2018 1/2

Honestly, to my homies: I'm voting to repeal the casino legislation!

    1) We are too late to the game

    2) Connecticut is doing really well, aren't they? Both have cut back hours and from what I hear cut back slot wins

    3) The casino will suck $$$ from the lottery. I hate the lottery, even though I snagged a $50,000 scratch ticket in 2008. I no longer buy tickets nor play any type of lottery in any State. It's just extra taxes, which I pay too damn much of now anyway.

    4) If one had to win I was hoping for Wynn actually. Yes, Everett is a hole and I have nostalgia for Suffolk Downs but I also have distaste for Mohegan Sun. Played lots there for many years. Never got a big win, never a W2-G. Just sucked my money away. I've gotten a couple at Wynn but not Encore. However, that being said, Boston is just Logan Airport for me and maybe a Sox game every three or four years. No other reason to go there so they could build 35 casinos there if they desire. I won't go.

Most likely before 2020 that is for sure.

Have been following the commission's meetings since the beginning. Wynn was going to get the license since last Tuesday/Wednesday once the financing and economic impact were known. The commission just wanted to squeeze out more money from Wynn to fix their problems with traffic/Sullivan Square. MA wouldn't want to dish out public funds to fix the problem so they found the opportunity to do so with Wynn. McHugh picked Mohegan because he lives in Charlestown and he would be affected by the traffic if Wynn wins the license. It is really a win-win for MA overall long term as a whole if Wynn gets the chance to build his resort/casino. For Everett this is going to put them on the map! That former Monsanto eyesore held back Everett and cleaning that land up is going to turn things around.

Anytime anyone can pick up the cost of cleaning up a chemical waste site is a good thing. We all know Wynn will construct a beautiful resort and hopefully that will spur other development in the area.

The very good news is that toad Loveman got cut out early on in the process! Ha ha!

Have to agree with the Bay State is always late in the game . The revenue coming in from not only Mass , but Maine and New Hampshire state lines less than an hour away will draw the degenerates (myself included) I live about 30 min away and much better than the 2 hours to Conn. or the trek to the Atlantic City, but I cant understand is the Everett location? You would have thought a better location on the coast or inland. The Mystic River is not much of a tourist attraction. IMHO

Will this casino cater to more mid level rollers? Or will it be the high rollers to whales like at the wynncore in LV? Thoughts?

By definition, it's going to be a locals casino. It'll get plenty of people who go to the Connecticut casinos now to play slots. How often it gets mid level players I think depends on what else is on site.

I'm not anti-casino in any way, but now that it's actually upon us, I kind of hope the repeal vote succeeds, because having Wynn there takes away some of my excuse for Vegas trips. I have no plans to go to Wynn in Everett except once to have a look. If CET had landed the deal at Suffolk, I might have gone there for a day once or twice a year.

I know we'll check it out for sure. I love Wynns properties all the way back to the Mirage (before MGM wrecked it). It would be a way shorter plane ride for us or we could even drive. I'll always love Vegas even if it's mostly for the memories. It's really becoming too much of a night club town for what we like to do anymore.

Although I no longer live in CT or the Northeast, I go back regularly to visit and will definitely check it out when/if it gets up and running. I go to Mohegan once per trip when I'm visiting family but would be about the same distance from this new Wynn, so why not?

With any luck, it might force Mohegan to offer better comps, which were rarely obtainable at my level of play, not to mention they don't offer points on their 9/6 DDB (the main reason I go). It would be nice if they changed that and I could get a free night here and there.

Not having followed this whole situation, are there any restrictions in terms of type of gambling at this site? Are they allowed to have everything a "normal" casino/hotel resort offers? I know there are places in NY that don't offer certain types of gaming.

Goes into detail to the clean up and the remediation of the Monsanto contaminated site that will be Wynn's resort. Really hope the casino repeal does not go through. At least something is done to this contaminated piece of land which no one would even dare touch. Props to Wynn for making something happen and hopefully this goes through and succeeds.

Unlike the stupidity that is New York in its approach to having casinos, MA is one and done. There are no restrictions to what kinds of games once a MA casino opens. It would be a full fledge casino. I don't know about MGM but I am sure Wynn will mainly focus on baccarat because of its international focus in trying to draw Asian players. With Mohegan there is still the chance to be in MA since there is the Southeastern license that is still up for grabs. Plus there is NY where Mohegan wants to revitalize the Catskills. It is not as dire Mohegan is trying to make you believe. The true losers in this are the city of Revere and Suffolk Downs.

Thanks for the info. In that case, I'll definitely be checking it out if/when it opens.
