MGM Grand VIP Lounge

If we are invited guests on a comp, do we automatically have access to VIP check-in and the lounge at MGM? I've been there on a comp a few times and never even knew these existed, so I'm wondering if they just assumed I knew about it, or if I wasn't important enough to qualify.

I see where the "Stay Well Lounge" and the "VIP Lounge" are on the MGM property map, but I don't recall ever actually seeing them. Someone fill me in on the details!

Short answer, I am not sure. They usually have a separate line at the regular checkin for "invited guests". I say, try the VIP lounge and the worst they do is tell you that you have the wrong place and send you back out to the invited guests line

 

Thanks, UK. Where is the entrance to the VIP lounge? Is it the corridor between the concierge and the regular desk? I've used the invited guest check-in line before, but I want VIP access if it's available! :evillaugh

 

I'll admit I like the free snacks, especially in the morning. The room has gold doors to the left of the vip check-in line (facing check-in). It's behind a bunch of slot machines.

 

I am also there on a comp and didn't have access to the VIP lounge at first with my comp. I then called VIP services to ask if I could have access since I always checked in at Monte Carlo in the VIP room. They had to call a host to get the ok. So I wouldn't just assume that you will have access to it because your there on a comp unless it states it. I would call and ask if you can use it. It's really one of those comps that cost them nothing to give you. The worst they can say is no. I personally would not want to show up and be told " I'm sorry sir, you'll have to go out and wait in the line like everyone else. Your not cool enough to check in here. This is only for people that our special".

 

If you walk past the front checkin into the casino, the doors to the VIP are just behind the first couple slot machines on your right

 

This is true, my buddy was politely asked to not come back even though he gets rooms through a host. I guess they were nice about it though and told him he was welcome in the invited guests line.
I still razz him every time I go in there. (But that is what friends are for )

 

Well I contacted the host that setup our free nights, and she said that lounge is only for people who are full RFB, not peasants like me who only get a free room and some resort credits. I feel...so...small

 

Interesting. I never really inquired as to who they let in and who is turned away. This past weekend, they had someone stationed outside the door 24/7, but I just flashed my skysuite key and they opened the doors. But I assumed that was just for an event weekend. Any other time I have gone in there, nobody was stationed at the front door and I just walked on in.

In fact, the only time anyone at any VIP lounge has ever questioned my presence was a couple years ago at Wynn. I walked in, sat down, and started checking my phone while I waited a few minutes for my car to arrive. The guy working the room walked up to me and asked if I was permitted in there. I said yes, I was staying in a tower suite blah blah blah. Then he asked to see my room key, which I didn't have (my gf had it and she was killing time somewhere else). So I told him I didn't have it on me. He told me I would have to leave. I got a little huffy and told him if he didn't believe me, he could go ask the staff at the VIP checkin desk that knew me. After that he backed down and left me alone.

 

It's not true that you have to be full RFB. I have checked in at monte Carlos and was ok'd to use it at MGM for upcoming trip and I'm comped with resort credit. Not full RFB. Maybe it has to do with your adt.

 

You guys had me all nervous about the VIP lounge check in. So I just called Vip services to double check and also get tickets to love and they said I was ok'd by the host to use the VIP lounge. So no it's not true about having to be full RFB.

 

Like a lot of things with MGM it's different from property to property. Monte Carlo I believe you just have to be Gold or above to check in (not sure about the other lower tier MGM props). At most of the other mid to high MGM properties however, your host needs to code you as VIP. If your host doesn't code you, you're going to get sent back out to the invited guests line in the main lobby, likewise if you're coded and check in at the invited guests line, they'll walk you down to the VIP Lounge (which is what happened the first time I stayed at Mirage through my host). Most likely if you have a host, you are playing at a high enough level to get coded. It may not be full RFB, but your rooms are fully comped, and you're getting a healthy chunk of F&B/FP. I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule, and if you have a good relationship with your host, they'll set you up, but that's the general rule of thumb.

 

Well, now I'm feeling a little discarded by the host in light of what you're saying. I guess I need to figure out what my ADT is, but I don't appreciate her lying to me. Why not just say it's reserved for higher level players or something? Clearly I'm not completely clueless if I was asking about access to the VIP Lounge...not sure what to do at this point. It's not worth getting huffy over, but I would like access

 

Sevjay, FWIW, I would not get too worked up over it. If you're happy with your comps and like MGM Grand, then don't worry about being denied VIP access. As far as VIP lounges go, its not all that great. The only perks are free sodas, some free snacks (none of which are anything special), a few seats you can sit in and relax, and a shorter line for checkin and checkout. It's nice, but really, how much would you really use it? I find the VIP lounges at Aria and Bellagio very nice and good places to sit back for a bit and relax. The MGM VIP doesn;t have that same feel. If you want to sit back and relax, go to the lobby bar or the HL room bar.

 

UK, I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek. I'm happy with my comps...it would just be nice to have the option for when the lines are insane there, which seems to be often.

I don't think I've ever seen a bar in the HL room at MGM. Where the hell is it? I've played on the side nearest to grand wok, as well as the opposite side of the HL room, and I really can't picture where the bar would be, unless there's a hidden part of the HL room that I somehow have missed

 

Its right in the middle. When you walk in the HL, there is a bac pit on your left (the side nearest Grand Wok, right across from Crush), then a BJ pit, and then the bar is just past that BJ pit, with a small wall separating it from the BJ pit

 

Yes I wouldn't get too worked up over it. Other than being very quick to check in, and some free beer/wine/coffee/soda (all things you can get for free anyway) there isn't anything that special about it. I will occasionally stop in to grab something to drink on my way out the door, which is a nice little perk, but again if I had to I could have simply gotten it for free when I started gambling anyway.

 

I have never been able to use the MGM VIP room, but have used the Aria SkySuites(not sure if the Aria itself has one??), Bellagio, NYNY, Monte Carlo and Mirage. Usually when you book your offer they will let you know where to check in or just ask and they will let you know. Not sure why the MGM is so much more "exclusive" compared to other properties. Oh well. I happen to really enjoy them as a place to grab a few sodas or beers to bring to the room or out to the casino floor. The food is nothing special but the snacks in the SkySuite are really good. I believe NYNY and even the Bellagio are open to Plat members even if not staying at the hotel. Would need to double check on that.

 

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm not too sour on not being allowed -- more annoyed that the host would lie to me about something so small. I don't ask for much, and I don't bombard her with emails, phone calls, or requests, so I don't know why she would be dismissive like that. The biggest appeal of that lounge sounds like the ability to skirt the lines at check-in, so I hope I won't run into a terrible line when I arrive.
If I get enough booze in me, I may walk into the lounge during my trip just to see if anyone bothers me. Since it's the iHeartradio weekend, I may want to try it until Sunday or Monday though...if I do try it and have any good stories, I'll definitely be back here with them

 

VIP lounge is for comps through the host and typically at the RFB level. Invited guest would be for promos through the marketing. This is what I was told a long time ago.
