The better half & I are looking to stay 2 nights downtown during our december Vegas trip. She is pickier than I am about hotels & it took a lot of convincing to get her to agree to a 2 night downtown stay. I love downtown & could stay there the entire trip. She on the other hand enjoys going down there a night or 2 each trip & staying on the strip. I must choose a nice room if I ever wish to stay downtown again.
Before I book the golden nugget rush tower, I have some questions about golden gate suites:
1.Are they as large as the GN rush tower rooms?
    2. Have the rooms been renovated in regards to worn carpet, decent furniture, etc?
    3. Are the beds comfortable?
    4. Do the bathrooms have a large enough counter area for her to spread all her stuff out?
    5. Do the bathrooms have double sinks?
    6. Are the walls paper thin?
    7. Can you hear the fremont street or any other noise from the suites?
    8. Do the GG suites compare favorably with the GN rush tower?

Thank you in advance for any & all replies.

I have not stayed at the Golden Nugget, so I cannot comment on their rooms. The Suites at the Golden Gate are almost brand new. The Gate added on to the back of the casino/hotel not too long ago and the suites are located along the rear of the building in the new addition, so noise from the FSE should be minimal. I have stayed in the regular rooms at the Gate several times and drool with envy when I walk past the suites. I have 3 comped nights booked at the Gate next month. They can't promise to upgrade me to a suite until I arrive, but I will try my like hell to bag one. If I succeed, I will report back about my impressions.

    I have stayed in both.
Golde Gate Suites are nice they are new so there is no worn carpet. They aren't quite as big as the rush tower rooms but there is plenty of room for two people to spread out. Counter space is good and there is little to no noise. Both are very nice and I think both would compare very favorably to most strip rooms. The advantage to the Gate is the rooms are easy to get to as the elevators lead right to the casino floor. The nice part of the Rush rooms are the second check in window, making it very quick to check in.

I get offers from GG for free nights but I'm sure I wouldn't get bumped up to a suite. We are usually 2 females travelling so we need a little more room than the old re-decorated rooms provide from what I hear. It would be a great location for us though.

Can't compare the GG suite to the nugget rooms, but I was impressed with my GG suite stay earlier this year.

Condition of the room was great, no worn carpeting, furniture, etc. Bed was very comfortable, and the air conditioning reasonably quiet.

The bathroom sink counter area was fairly large, and the whole setup has a number of shelves available to place items on. Don't remember if it had double sinks, but there are photos of the rooms on the web.

No issues with either interior or exterior noise, but the suite I had was on the side of the GG parking and at the end of the hallway, so I'm not sure if I got lucky or not. Definitely request a room on that side though, I barely heard a peep from Fremont st all night.

Overall I very much enjoyed my stay. The casino is fun, and the overall location is fantastic. Combine that with very reasonable rates for the suites and you get a great experience.

After scouting Golden Gate's exterior on Google Maps' street view, it looks like they don't have a parking garage...only a small parking lot behind the hotel. Is this accurate?

Not sure. Doesn't matter to us as we don't drive in Vegas.

Yes, that's accurate. No garage, just a parking lot.

Yes; they have the valet lot directly behind the hotel/casino and a self parking lot across the street to the south from the valet lot. Both are surface lots; no parking ramp/garage.

I always use valet and it was extrememly convenient. You enter of Main St. 10 steps and you are in the casino at the guest registry desk.
