Question Total Rewards - Gold vs Platinum

Is there really much of a difference in the comps or advantages between the basic Gold card and the next tier ( Platinum ) ?

I am just wondering is it worth trying to get the platinum at my local casino before my trip to vegas in August.

With Platinum, you get some advantages like Platinum line check in, separate Diamond/Platinum line for some restaurants, and some discounts in some Harrahs owned stores.

As for offers, it all depends on how you play. Theoretically, you could get better offers as a gold than a Platinum or even a Diamond member if your last couple of plays was stronger relative to a player with a higher status who did not show much good action as of late.

I made Platinum in a day and my comps shot up instantly. Then I made Diamond and the only difference I saw (that really mattered to me) was the access to the Diamond Lounges. I was able to get the same suites with P that I was now getting with D.

Comps: No. Comps are based on your play, not the color of your card.

Advantages: You get the usual discounts that being Platinum entails (extra discount at spa, slightly bigger discount at stores). If you are staying at Planet Hollywood you will get to use the Platinum check in and maybe priority seating at the buffet (I say maybe because most of the Harrah's properties have priority seating for the buffet but I've never checked the Planet Hollywood buffet out and seen if they have that or not for Platinum).

So thats pretty much it... realistically not much of a difference between Platinum and Gold and the offers really don't change just because you moved up in a card color.

I believe PH had the express line for Platinum, however, I can honestly say I didn't catch if the seating covered both Diamond & Platinum. (I had a week left on Diamond at that time).

My actual offers have remained the same 'level' at gold, platinum & diamond as my daily tier has stayed the same. But since I have a tendency to put off eating too long some times, the line 'cutting' has been essential for me.

I was Platinum for 2 years and just dropped back to Gold this year. I really miss the shorter lines at checkin, restaurants and the TR desk. That was the difference for me. Last year the check in line at Flamingo was 100 people long all day long, I was so glad I could go into the Plat/Diam room. This year we happened to be at Harrahs during a slow time and so it didn't make a difference.

Definitely worth it IMO, if you intend to take up room offers. The offers will not necessarily be any better but, as Tammy pointed out, you will be able to cut the line at check-in and checkout & use the separate entrance to the buffets. There are a few other benefits which you should check - the link was included in a previous response.

You should see it on the Total Rewards site once you hit the 4,000 points. Additionally, the next time you're in a CET casino, go to the TR desk and have them reprint your new Platinum card. You'll want to get your card replaced because many of the line cut benefits are usually based by a quick visual inspection of the color of the card.

Don't forget that an often overlooked advantage to Platinum is the 2-for-1 show tickets at select shows (or 2 free with Diamond) every month!
